Missioner Deacon Ish is away today doing both the music and the sermon at a Café Church organised by the South Chingford Congregation Church in London. We hope to see many Friends and their friends for coffee and a chat. Cost is 1.50 payable on the door. Please note that there will be NO Coffee Morning in July. Schubert s Die schöne Mullerin - concert in the Cathedral on Wednesday 15th July at 7pm: Lay Vicar Stefan Kennedy (tenor) and Assistant Organist Timothy Ravalde (piano) will be performing one of Schubert's most loved song cycles in aid of the Cathedral Choral Foundation Fund. Entry is free with a retiring collection. Incarnation, Mary and Women from the Bible, Tuesday 16 th June-Sunday 16 th August: an exhibition of paintings by Chris Gollon in the North Transept. Chris Gollon is an established name in British painting. This extraordinary exhibition takes as its central theme the role of named and unnamed women in the Bible. Open daily, free entry. Chichester Cathedral Choir Cricket Club have enjoyed a very successful 2015 season so far, but are calling for a large and friendly crowd to be the twelfth man for their biggest match of the season so far. On Monday 13th July at 2pm, they will represent the Cathedral against the Diocese of Chichester at Oaklands Park, near the Festival Theatre. All are most welcome. There may be seating available but this is not guaranteed, so picnic rugs and deck chairs are advisable.

3 For those who are new to the Cathedral If you are new to the Cathedral congregation and would like more information about the life of the Cathedral or membership of the Cathedral Roll please give your name and address to a steward or ring the Cathedral office during office hours, Monday to Friday, on Children s Activities on Sundays A crèche and children s group, Pebbles (ages 2-11), meet in the Canons Vestry each Sunday during the 11am Sung Eucharist. If your children would like to join the group please ask a steward for more information. Parents are welcome too! Toy bags are also available during the service. Local Events The Community Committee have compiled a list of local events that might be of interest to the Cathedral Community. This list is available in Reception and also on the Cathedral website, in the About Us section, on the Cathedral Community Downloads page. Cathedral Friends - Trip to Salisbury: On the 18 th of July we are going to Salisbury for the Southern Cathedrals Festival. Demand has been such that we have arranged for a larger coach and now have a further 3 seats available at 10 per seat. We will leave from the Bell Tower at 8.30am and arrive in Salisbury in time for the Festival Eucharist with the combined choirs. Afterwards we can visit the Magna Carta Exhibition in the Chapter House. A number of us are going to St. Thomas's Church (5 minutes walk from the Cathedral) for the concert Youth in Music from 4-5pm. Tickets for this concert at 12 are available from the Salisbury Playhouse Box Office ( ). The coach will leave Salisbury at 5.30pm. Salisbury Cathedral Flower Festival: on 17 th September 2015, Chichester Cathedral Friends are organising a day trip to Salisbury to see the Flower Festival in the Cathedral. This year it will be even bigger, as Salisbury celebrates 800 years of the Magna Carta. This will be a popular visit, so we recommend booking early. The cost will be 25 for the coach and a timed entry to the Flower Festival. You can book with Marianne at ccf.eventsec@gmail.com or on or phoning the Friends' Office on and please, leave a message. 4 Notices Continued Job Vacancy at the Cathedral: We are looking for a part-time Liturgy & Music Assistant with strong organisational/administrative skills, computer literacy, accuracy, high standards of visual presentation and an ability to co-ordinate large and intricate printing jobs. The Education Department would be so grateful for any thin ribbon (not florist s ribbon), colourful beads with large holes, and/or embroidery threads you may have and be willing to donate for activities at the next School Friends Services. For more details please contact Vicky on or schools@chichestercathedral.org.uk St Richard s Door July and August 2015: during July and August Chapter intend to run a trial with regards to St Richard s Door in the Western Arm of the Cloisters. To encourage footfall to the Cathedral s Café and Shop, the door will be fixed open so that visitors can come and go freely through this doorway if they wish. Some temporary signage will be added to the route to reflect this and the trial will be reviewed throughout. A temporary handrail will also be added to St Richard s Door to assist visitors (disabled access and exit will not be possible via this door and will remain as normal through the South West Door opening onto the Baptistry). The Café and Shop are part of the Cathedral's trading arm and all profits go to the Cathedral to support its life and work. Revenue from the Café and Shop is part of Chapter s long term strategy to maintain free entry to the Cathedral. This trial might also enable more people to experience the historic Cloisters, which are an intrinsic part of the Cathedral but often missed by those departing via West Street. It is hoped that St Richard s Door will mostly be used by people exiting the Cathedral and that a large proportion of visitors will continue to enter via the West Door. That said, some Welcome Leaflets will also be placed at St Richard s Door for those that enter at this point. St Richard s Door will be open daily for the same hours that the Café is open: Mon to Sat 9am to 5pm, Sun 10am to 4pm (except during services/ concerts when the door will be stewarded in the normal manner).
