2 ASSOCIATE PASTOR S PEN A MESSAGE FROM FR. CHUCK WROBEL Oftentimes, as I prepare for the daily Mass, I run across a message that I wish could be given to all the people and not just to the people who attend Mass that day. The first week of July had several of these messages. On Monday, the Gospel Reading was about Jesus calming the storm and saying to the disciples, Oh, you of little faith. I don t know that we always suffer from little faith so much as we suffer from forgetful faith. The next day, the message was (as often times is the case from a prophet of the Old Testament) a warning about having a part-time faith or a faith of show, where we come to Mass and we say our prayers as the law dictates, but as soon as we walk out the door we forget what we just did. Our actions are not congruent with the worship in which we have just participated. If we will try harder to remember and make our worship a part of our lives ALLways and not only when we are at church or in prayer, our lives would be so much more different (and so would the lives of the people around us). In the midst of all our life stuff, we are lovingly invited to let Jesus be immediately at our side (to take upon us the yoke which He will carry with us). We are invited to be with Christ amidst the storm that can rage all around us as He calms the storm within us. There is a song sung by Scott Krippayne called Sometimes He Calms The Storm. All the lyrics are great, but the refrain, for me, is quite powerful and something I often need to remember as I go to God in my time of need. The words are these: Sometimes He calms the storm With a whispered Peace be still He can settle any sea But it doesn t mean He will Sometimes He holds us close And lets the wind and waves go wild Sometimes He calms the storm And other times He calms His child Let us be a community of people who remembers our faith at all times and not just when we are in active worship or prayer. Look for the opportunity to be Christ for those around you. Take the yoke of Christ upon your shoulders and walk in step with Christ, becoming an intentional disciple at all times. ~Fr. Chuck MISSION CO-OP NEXT WEEKEND We welcome Sr. Mary Ellen Kempken, a Maryknoll Sister, to St. Bruno s next week to share the story about the outstanding ministry the Sisters do among the poor. My personal relationship with Sr. Mary Ellen goes back to Fond du Lac in the 1970 s when she and I were both younger people. After almost 40 years, I am looking forward to getting reacquainted. Observe that there is a Mission Co-op envelope contained in this week s bulletin. Please put something in it and bring it along with you next weekend. Your gift is another way that you recognize the bigger family that we are all a part of through our baptism. Your check needs to be made out to St. Bruno Parish. (We send one combined check to the World Mission Office from the Parish for the Maryknoll Sisters.) Let s give Sr. Mary Ellen a big welcome next weekend. ~Fr. Ralph PARISH TRUSTEE ELECTION IS THIS WEEKEND We want to encourage any St. Bruno Parish member who is 18 or older to vote for one of the candidates running for Parish Trustee/Secretary. The two candidates are: JOE KUENZLI & STEVE PAQUIN. Their profiles were published last weekend in the Parish bulletin. PLEASE VOTE! SR. MARY ELLEN KEMPKEN Born in Hartford, Wisconsin, Sister Mary Ellen Kempken graduated with a degree in Nursing from Marian College of Fond du Lac and worked for a year at St. Francis Hospital in Milwaukee before entering the Maryknoll Sisters Congregation in l975. In 1977, Sister was sent in mission to Bolivia, where her service was primarily in pastoral and health-related ministries. For the past 15 years, Sister served there in the Pando Vicariate, in the northern jungle region of the country. Her work has included formation courses for rural religious leaders and radio programs to support them between the visits in which her team traveled by boat and jeep to their small communities scattered along the Amazon River System. More recently, Sister accompanied the staff of the New Horizons Rehabilitation Center for children with special needs in Riberalta, and helped to organize handicraft classes for postspecial education youth, so that these young people and their families might develop their own new horizons and find a better quality of life. Who are the Maryknoll Sisters? Maryknoll Sisters are women of faith committed to the mission of Jesus, so God s love, peace and justice may be known throughout the world. Founded in 1912, the Maryknoll Sisters were the first group of Catholic Sisters in the United States to devote their lives in service overseas. PAGE 2 SAINT BRUNO PARISH
