JUNE Preaching Texts 6/3/18 Lord s Supper 2nd Sunday after Pentecost Mark 2:23-3:6 1 Samuel 3:1-10* At the Congregational Meeting; this Sunday, June 3rd; the Congregation will elect seven people to the Pulpit Nominating Committee. This is a Call. These people will be Called to Serve and to help select the New Pastor for this church. This is not a popularity contest, but a calling by God. This Church will be in constant prayer for these seven people as they say yes to their Call by God. CALLED CONGREGATIONAL MEETING JUNE 3, 2018 FOLLOWING THE 9:30AM WORSHIP SERVICE The KPC Session is pleased to announce a Called Congregational Meeting on June 3, 2018, immediately following the 9:30am Worship Service for the purpose of electing persons to serve on the KPC Pastor Nominating Committee that shall be representative of the whole congregation according to the Book of Order G A slate of seven names of those called to serve will be presented by the KPC Nominating Committee for vote. Nominations may be received from the floor, and any name(s) received from the floor must be placed on a paper voting ballot(s) with such vote(s) being cast and received at that time. The KPC Pastor Nominating Committee s duty shall be to nominate a pastor for election by the congregation. Our Prayers... Rhonda Link-Cummings leads this study. Haile Bistro Scripture Study... Come join the discussion every Tuesday, from 8:00 9:00 am at Haile Village Bistro at 5323 Southwest 91 Terr. 4 NEWS FROM KANAPAHA Page 4 Building and Grounds... Many thanks to Mary Searle for her continuing care and monitoring of the water of the fountain in the Trinity Garden. Thanks also go out to Charlie and Martha Botsford for their constant and loving care of the Prayer Garden. Thanks to all of our yard mowers, new and experienced! Church History and Cemetery Management... A big thank you to Robert Behl for digging a fire pit in the KPC cemetery so our periodic debris burning can be done in a safer manner. Also many thanks to Tom and Janet Jordan and Pat Stump for having three new flowering trees planted in the cemetery to replace a dogwood tree that had died. Congratulations Graduates... Benjamin and Tiffany Ward (Kim Friend s Son and Daughter-in-law), graduated from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in Jacksonville Florida. Tiffany received a Master of Arts in Biblical Studies. Ben received a Master in Divinity. Ben and Tiffany will be moving to Naples, Florida this summer and Ben will serve a year long internship at Christ the King Orthodox Presbyterian Church. Tiffany has written and published two novels of a trilogy and a short story. They are excited to begin the next journey of their lives in the service of God. 5 NEWS FROM KANAPAHA Page 5 Estate Auction... Estate Auction, Friday, June 8 th, 6 pm at Kanapaha Presbyterian Church Preview begins at 5 pm. Absolute Auction Cash only Buyer s premium added Thanks to the generosity of Rick Klopp s sister Patricia, many items in his estate were donated to KPC to sell. Lynne Keyes, the professional auctioneer who does our holiday auction, will be auctioning off the items. How Can You Help? There are many ways to help us have a successful auction! Sign Up Sheets have been circulated at church on May 27 th and June 3 rd or you can contact Karen Kirkman at kvkirkman@gmail.com or (352) We re asking for donations of nice or antique furniture or collectibles to be auctioned to benefit KPC. No junk, broken items or clothing will be accepted. We will set up those items separately in Memorial Hall. Please contact Karen Kirkman (kvkirkman@gmail.com or ) before making a donation. We will need volunteers to help clean up some of the items and sort them. We will do this at various times between May 29 and June 7, dates and times TBA We will need people to set up tables, chairs and tents, and also to put the items on the display tables. June 8 th 1 pm 4:30 pm We also need volunteers to help at the auction on June 8 th. We will need people to help display (hold up) items when they are on the auction block, park cars, monitor the Fellowship Hall and tables and also people to help folks carry things to their vehicles. June 8, 4:40 - ~8 PM We need volunteers to put away the tables, chairs, tents and the unsold items.

Rhonda Link-Cummings at 6pm in Memorial Hall. We gather in God s name as Rev. Rhonda Link-Cummings led the devotional. Observe one minute of silent prayer for the life and witness of Ruling Elder Richard Rick Klopp who entered the Church Triumphant on Monday, 4/9/18. A QUORUM WAS PRESENT. ELDERS PRESENT: Kaley Behl, Kim Friend, Nancy Henry, Karen Kirkman, Joanna Long, Joan Stout (Clerk of the Session), Kim Walsh-Childers ELDERS ABSENT: Charles Turner TREASURER PRESENT: Joan Russell JUNE ANNIVERSARIES 04 Eric & Amy Rosenberg 15 James Claus & Joanna Long 24 Richard & Evelyn Barrett MSP to approve the Agenda with the following additions: Move Thomas Sheppard from inactive to active membership on KPC roll (placed under Clerk s Report). Kim Friend wished to present and discuss information printed in the PCUSA Handbook for Pastor Nominating Committee and to discuss budgetary concerns related to hiring a new pastor (placed under Nominating Committee). MSP to approve the Consent Agenda after minutes from Called Session Meeting of March 20, 2018, and the Stated Session Meeting of March 20, 2018, were moved for discussion at the request of Kim Friend (placed under Clerk s Report). ORDER OF THE EVENING AT 7PM: Receive leaders associated with Cub Scout Pack 371 as required for their Annual Partner Charter Visit. CONSENT AGENDA: *Ratify vote to cancel Called Congregational Meeting for 4/8/18. *Ratify phone vote to give Rick Klopp s sister, Patricia Klopp, permission to place a POD on church property for a limited time which will hold items from Rick s estate which she is donating to KPC for KPC to sell and keep the money.

WE PRESENT OUR OFFERINGS: Committee Reports & Future Plans *Administration & Stewardship Nancy Henry KPC insurance policy needs to be dealt with. *Buildings & Grounds MSP to accept Karen Kirkman as elder assigned to this committee. MSP to accept Tom Jordan, Mike Kirkman, Kaley Behl, Sam Miller as committee members. *Christian Education Charles Turner/Joan Stout Kim Friend, coordinator for Children s Sunday School K-5th grade, reports that Sunday School will meet after the 9:30am Sunday Worship Service on May 6 th and 20 th ; will not meet on Mother s Day May 13 or on Memorial Day weekend May 27 th. Summer Break will begin on June 3. Thank you to volunteer teachers Joanna Claus-Long, Mary Moffett, Amy Rosenberg and Carolyn Smith. *Church History & Cemetery Management Kaley Behl/Karen Kirkman Several dead dogwood trees possibly due to dogwood blight have been removed from the KPC Cemetery by Tom Jordan and crew. *Church Promotion & Fund Raising Kim Walsh-Childers/Karen Kirkman MSP to give Karen Kirkman permission to contact Lynn Keys concerning the possibility of holding an auction for the Richard Klopp Estate donation. *Congregational Care Kim Friend MSP to accept the Deacon s Report. MSP to approve having communion delivered to people who cannot attend church with Pastor Rhonda to accompany deacons. *Fellowship Joanna Long Men s Easter Morning Breakfast and Easter Egg Hunt were a huge success. *Missions Kim Friend The committee will meet May 6, 2018, after the 9:30am Worship Service. *New Member Development Kim Walsh-Childers MSP to approve inclusion of New Member Package PC(USA) Documents to be included in the KPC Welcome Bags, the brochure, KPC: Rooted in History and Relevant for Today, and KPC Activities Information Brochure. It was suggested that the ushers give out the Welcome Bag at the 9:30am Worship Service. *Nominating Committee Charles Turner/Joan Stout 1. Kim Friend provided information from the PCUSA Handbook for the Pastor Nominating Committee and presented questions that need to be answered. The Treasurer is requested to provide monetary and benefit options at the May 15 Stated Session Meeting for a pastor who may be called at some future time. 2. Joan Stout, Co-chair of the KPC Nominating Committee, reported the committee has completed a slate of officers to serve on the KPC Pastor Nominating Committee and asks the Session to approve a date for a Called Congregational Meeting for the purpose of electing the KPC Pastor Nominating Committee.

8 NEWS FROM KANAPAHA Page 8 Session (Cont d) by Clerk of Session, Joan Stout STATED SESSION MEETING APRIL 24, 2018 (Continued) MSP to have a Called Congregational Meeting after the 9:30am Worship Service on Sunday, June 3, 2018, for the purpose of electing persons who feel they have been called to serve on the KPC Pastor Nominating Committee (PNC) with the date to be announced in the May Newsletter and the church bulletin two weeks prior to the meeting. MSP to accept the Nominating Committee s decision to nominate seven persons to serve on the PNC. ORDER OF THE EVENING: The Session welcomed John Wynkoop, Leader of Cub Scout Pack 371, Amy Fritts, Area Coordinator, and James Claus, Charter Organization Representative, to fulfill their Annual Partner Charter Visit requirement and discuss future plans, meeting times, and service projects for Cub Scout Pack 371 which meets at KPC. KPC is the Charter Organization for Cub Scout Pack 371. The Scouts would like to start taking care of the flower beds surrounding the sanctuary and Memorial Hall. The Session asked the pack to place their banner on display in Memorial Hall. The pack will participate in a February worship service for Scout Sunday. MSP to allow Cub Scout Pack 371, starting in the Fall of 2018, to use Memorial Hall every Monday night and the third Tuesday night of the month starting the last week in August to the 1 st or 2 nd week in June *Worship Charles Turner/Joanna Long 1. Pastor Rhonda has placed a Pastoral Coverage Contingency Plan, Lessons and Hymns for Christ s Life, on file with Administrative Secretary Lynn King in the event of a pastoral emergency. 2. In discussion concerning the Music Hiring Sub-Committee, the Session learned Tom Jordan, Charles Turner and Kim Walsh-Childers served on the committee. MSP to extend time from 7:30-8:00pm. 3. The Session reviewed and revised a proposed written contract for KPC Music Leader Maria Kerrigan Haupt as provided by Kim Walsh-Childers. The contract will be for a six-month period beginning May 1, Kim Walsh-Childers will forward the revised contract to all Session members for their approval by vote in the next few days. 4. Children in the KPC Sunday School Program will sing at the 9:30am Worship Service on Sunday, May MSP to have a Congregational Hymn Sing in place of the sermon on the fifth Sunday, July 29, MSP to extend time from 8:00-8:30pm.

Joan Stout, Clerk of Session STATED SESSION MEETING APRIL 24, 2018 (Continued) TREASURER S REPORT: Presentation, discussion of the Treasurer s Report for March 2018 followed by MSP. The Presbytery of St. Augustine Loan/Insurance Information Form was filed with Nancy Brown, Bookkeeper, before the May 15, 2018 deadline. KPC has been blessed in the fact that the church has no outstanding loans. CLERK S REPORT: The Lord s Supper was served on March 29, 2018, for the Maundy Thursday Tenebrae Service, for the 10am Worship Services on Easter Sunday April 1, 2018, and for the 9:30am Worship Service on April 15, 2018, with the Rev. Rhonda Link-Cummings as Pulpit Supply. With sad hearts we mourn the passing of Ruling Elder Richard (Rick) Klopp on Monday, April 9, 2018, giving thanks for his life and witness as he entered the Church Triumphant. Presbytery of St. Augustine s were forwarded to all session members as received from March 21 to April 24, s from Sandra Hedrick included Special Called Meeting of the Presbytery on August 25, 2018, concerning Montgomery Presbyterian Conference Center (3/21); Spring Stated Meeting of the Presbytery on May 1, 2018 (3/27), the Agenda (4/18), the Revised Agenda (4/27); (Prayer Request for Patti Norris, Wife of Edd Norris (4/13); Volunteers Needed to Fill Vacancies, an from Patti Phillips, the new chair of the Presbytery s Nominating Team (3/29); and Check out our newly designed newsletter, an from Kristen Magda (4/5); Lexi Green Named Interim Executive Director of Montgomery Conference Center (4/20). MSP to approve the Clerk s Report. Discussion of March 20 Called Session Meeting Minutes followed by MSP. Correct date of Sunday School in March 20 Stated Session Meeting Minutes from April 8 to May 20 followed by MSP. MSP to move Thomas Sheppard from KPC inactive roll to active roll. CONCERNS OF THE FUTURE: MSP to elect ruling elder Joan Stout as commissioner to attend the Presbytery of St. Augustine Spring Stated Meeting at 9am on Tuesday, May 1, 2018, at Montgomery Conference Center. A Special Called Meeting of the Presbytery of St. Augustine on Saturday, August 25, 2018, will consider and make strategic decisions concerning the future of Montgomery Presbyterian Conference Center. Montgomery Presbyterian Camp, Conference & Retreat Center was established in 1957 on 167 wooded acres on three spring-fed lakes. Owned by the Presbytery of St. Augustine, Montgomery exists to provide unique programs in a setting which gives youth and adults the opportunity to experience the love of God through Jesus Christ in ways that deepen faith and increase the appreciation of, and service to each other.
