Glad Tidings Potter s Wheel "The Final Reel" April 20 Sunday School & AF 115 6:00 Sunrise: 27 8:30 service :55 service 218 6:30 Service-N/A WNL (4-16): 121 May 1, 2014 by Rev. Tom Back in the old days of movies, most films would be presented on a series of reels. And the good thing about those old movies was that the hero always came through in the final reel of the movie. Bogart and Hepburn lived through the explosion. Superman avoided the blast furnace. Audie Murphy survived the assault. Same with the Gospel story. Mark, our oldest Gospel, was originally written without its "final reel". The Gospel story according to Mark ended, literally, when the angel says to the women, "But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see him, just as he told you." Rather than follow the angel's instructions, however, the women flee and go home, saying nothing to anyone, "for they were afraid". The End. Fortunately, a later editor added the final reel, along the lines of Matthew, Luke and John, including several post-resurrection appearances by Jesus and the Great Commission. Thank Goodness. Thank goodness the story didn't end with the women keeping their mouths shut! Because there was, indeed, a final reel to the story of Jesus, there are three absolute truths you and I can rely on. 1. Your life is not without purpose. Those pitiful souls who reject the possibility of Jesus' Resurrection are wasting their lives and living for nothing. What we do, how we live, and what we believe really does matter eternally. 2. Your failures do not have to be total. Everybody fails and gets knocked down. A resurrected Christ gives us reason to get back up again. 3. Your death is not final. You were not created to live for 25,000 days and then rot. You were created for an eternal life with God. Wherever we are in the film of our life, remember that God's up in the projection booth. And He's got the final reel at the ready. And you're going to LOVE the ending! In Joy, Tom April 27 Sunday School & AF 127 8:30 service :55 service 116 6:30 service 29 WNL (4-23): 122
