3 P A G E 3 Vicar s Desk Vicar s Desk Dear beloved in Christ, Greetings in the triune name of our Lord. God has enabled us to enter in to another month of 2017; in the midst of all the trials and tribulations God has done good to us and will continue to guide and protect us. VBS is a vital and important spiritual programme in our church. It was in my VBS; I got the first sence of togetherness and spiritual enjoyment from my mother church. It is true that a serious Bible study has nothing to do with VBS, but it is time to have coloured water, snacks, learning new songs and of course to understand God in the simplest ways which will go deep and influence the minds of our little ones. Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it (Proverbs 22:6) Parents, believed that they should teach biblical values and virtues to their children, and did so, had firmly laid the foundation for their children in becoming great leaders of Church and community. May I quote a few examples? 1. Bishop Polycarp was converted to Christian faith when he was nine years old. He was an apostolic father. He became a Bishop of the church in Smyrna, Turkey. He became a courageous leader of the early church. He burned alive because he refused to bow down before Caesar and to renounce the Lordship of Jesus Christ. He was one of the martyrs for the Church. His student was Iranaeus. Iranaeus was the Bishop of Lyons. He was a Theologian. He fought against heresies. He became a martyr. P A R I S H N E W S

4 P A G E 4 2. Mathew Henry was born on October 18, 1662 in Broad Oak and passed away in March 22, His father, Philip Henry was a well-known clergyman. Mathew was physically weak but spiritually strong. He is said that he read aloud a chapter of the Bible when he was three years old. He was saved when he was eleven. Until Mathew was eighteen, his education was surprised by his father, who was a considerable scholar and gifted teacher. Mathew gathered his friends in a small group, which met for prayer and Bible study. This example guided and inspired Rev. John Wesley and his brother Charles Wesley to found the Holy Club at Oxford. 3. Charles Haddon Spurgeon was born in June 19, 1834 and passed away on January 31, He was spiritually awakened at his twelfth. He was a noted English Baptist minister, who preached to throngs of people in Metropolitan Tabernacle in London. His success and popularity were due to his oratory and thoroughly Biblical expository sermons. He had written about thirty books. He became a famous Evangelist and Writer. These examples certainly tell us that the children, who were brought up in Christian homes, became outstanding leaders, contributing to the social, religious and spiritual well-being of others. They are destined to be great leaders, because they had received training in the word of God from their infancy. This truth is stated by the compiler of the Proverbs, in Proverbs 22:6. We should know that training in all spheres of life should begin in infancy, when children are truly teachable, pliable, and impressionable. Early training is very important. Do not delay and miss the golden opportunity to train your children. When children are old, you cannot train them in moral values or in proficiency in any profession. FASTING PRAYER Fasting Prayer will be held at the residence of Mr. R Justin Raj, Teen Murti on 14 th October from 10am to 1pm. 1 st NATIONAL YOUTH CONFERENCE 2017 NYC will be held from 20 th -22 nd October in Kamshet, Maharashtra. Theme for the Conference is Take A Stand (Stay Tuned And Never Deviate). I request the youths to make arrangement to attend the Conference. SNEHAVIRUNNU Snehavirunnu will be held on 21 st October. THE GIDEONS The Gideons International in India Field Officer (Church Relations), will visit our church on Sunday, 22 nd October and will share the word of God with us. This will be an opportunity to give and participate in the ministry of The Gideons. ATHMIYA KUTTAYMA Athmiya Kuttayma will be held on 29 th October after the Matins Service.
