2 Kingdom News October 2014 KINGDOM CHALLENGE by Donny Cor milia I hope you are making plans to be at the 2014 Basin Baptist Network Annual Meeting at Sherwood Baptist in Odessa. I always look forward to seeing the various ministries that we have in the area. I look forward to the fellowship around the table, the good meal provided through the labors of the Disaster Relief Team, the business meeting, and the worship time. This year we will have Getaneh Getaneh as our speaker. His testimony is inspiring, and his life continues to be an inspiration to many. Annual meetings have changed a lot from the time I began attending them to now. I remember the roll call of churches, the memorial service for those who had passed away since the last annual meeting, the reports from the various Baptist entities. The meeting typically lasted two days. However, everyone s time is so stressed today with so many things happening that a two-day meeting would not attract too many people. We must use time the time efficiently. Kingdom News October 2014 Non-denominational Oilfield Christian Fellowship BREAKFAST MEETING Friday, October 17 at 6:30-7:30 am Free Breakfast - Free Bible Rock the Desert Field House on FM 1788 north of the Airport or In Senegal the local believers would make fun of how important time was to Americans. They would say that the Swiss made time, Americans are controlled by time, but Africans have time. I think that is right in so many ways. We don t like to stop what we are doing. It is like we are having a contest to see who can be the busiest. I m guilty. Tammy s work and my work comes with a certain busyness to it. We have two kids and four grandkids in the Metroplex which adds to our busyness. We have a house complete with one son, mother-in-law and two dogs. Those add busyness. Life is busy, but we have all these products that are to save us time. Over the years some of the great time saving devices have been the printing press. Before Gutenberg invented the printing press it would take a scribe three to four months just to copy one gospel. Now our printers linked to our computing devices can print a sheet in less than a minute. The microwave saves time in the kitchen. Power mowers save us time in the yard. Garage door openers save us time and exercise since they lift the garage door for us while we sit in the car. Yet, even with all these devices we seem to have even less time today than ever before. I think we have lost a lot in the progress that we have made. We have lost face to face interaction with people. We send text messages rather than call, and we call rather than go see a person. If someone wants to get to know us they should visit our Facebook page or follow us on Twitter. People share way too intimate details of their lives with total strangers, yet neglect those with whom they share life. The words come out easily, Slow down. However, I have too many things to do today. I ll slow down tomorrow. One day that will be true. In any case, please put the Basin Baptist Annual Meeting on your personal and church calendar, and plan to be there with the young adults of your church as well. Maybe a personal invitation from you would encourage them to come and learn what the Network/Association is all about. I will see you there, October 5, PERMIAN BASIN BAPTIST MEN DISASTER RELIEF NEEDS WASH CLOTHS AND TOWELS FOR NEW SHOWER UNIT (PREFERRABLY WHITE). FOR MORE INFORMATION, PLEASE CALL US AT

6 Midland Baptist CRISIS Center Where need and opportunity meet (9-noon) It has been an incredibly busy summer here at the Baptist CRISIS Center! When school is out for summer vacation, families need more food because they have their children at home all day, every day. This was a very hot summer, so they needed clothing to keep them cooler. Air conditioners run longer, so electric bills are higher. In all of these situations for families in Midland, the MBCC has been able to assist and help meet these basic needs. Your faithful prayer and financial support allow us to meet these needs, and it is a blessing for us to work with individuals and families on your behalf and in Jesus s name. In August, we were blessed to bring Carmen Street on staff as our ministry assistant. She has been a huge asset to the ministry here. She speaks Spanish (which has been a huge help) and she genuinely cares for the people we assist. She regularly prays with people and will go out of her way to make sure they feel welcome and loved. Also in August, we did our annual school uniform distribution. To date, we have provided uniforms to over 140 families representing over 300 children. We gave each child a pair of school uniform pants or shorts, two school uniform shirts, socks, underwear, and a pair of shoes (all items were brand new). We want to extend a BIG THANKS to the great folks at Bellview Baptist Church for collecting the socks, underwear, and shoes for us, and for the monetary donations from members of Bellview and other churches that allowed us to purchase the school uniforms. We can always use volunteers to help in our food pantry and clothing distribution. If you are interested, please give me a call. As always, I would be happy to come speak to your church, Sunday school class, youth ministry, children s ministry, or any other interested group about the ministry here. Thank you again for all your faithful prayers and support! For His glory, VOLUNTEERS NEEDED Permian Basin International Oil Show Ector County Coliseum October 21-23, 2014 The Basin Baptist Network is working with Oil Field Christian Fellowship and Southern Baptists of Texas to provide lunches, Bibles and other prizes to gain a platform to share Christ with those coming to the Permian Basin International Oil Show this year.
