1 October 2018 Lifeline Staff: Kim Needham, Becky Davis, Dion Deitz, Courtney Hengst, Pat Justice From Pastor Roy... Surely you can t blame me for wanting to tout my number two great grandchild, Brooklyn Esther Parsons. She is a wonderful source of joy. This month I am highlighting the church s Strategic Plan. It was developed by Pastor Nate Stevens and the board of Elders over a period of three years. The document includes a statement of eight core values. Below are the first four values and next month we will provide the final four values. Please take the time to read and think about the values and how you can help us demonstrate them and so move us into fulfillment of the plan. Core Values: Core values are the identifying characteristics of our church. Some of these are aspirational (not yet present) and some are actual (already present). These are the marks that distinguish Foothill Bible Church Elderwood from every other church. Relationship: We at FBCE value above all a vibrant relationship with Jesus. When a believer is in such a relationship with his Lord, his inclination is to love, accept and welcome others, for such is the very heart of God toward all people. In our relationship with God and each other we value love, transparency, honesty, service, forgiveness, and faithful commitment. Just as God continues to demonstrate His unbounded grace, love and mercy, we endeavor to cultivate such relationships with those in our community. Great Commission: We at FBCE endeavor to carry out the Great Commission. We see this command from God for the church to encompass the full spectrum of Christian life. We see this spectrum as having two primary emphases, evangelism and equipping; in the evangelism phase, believers make conscious concerted efforts to share the love of God with those who do not know Him. In the equipping phase we see new converts moving to maturity as they discover God s Word and utilize their gifts in service to the church and their community.

2 Bible Centered Preaching and Education: We at FBCE value Scripture as God-breathed, inerrant in the autographs, and authoritative. We at FBCE practice a dispensational interpretation of Scripture. We value the communication of the Bible as it is the only objective Truth in the world today, living, active, and relevant for application. Further we hold that the Bible is to be read and studied to know God; that as believers immerse themselves into the Word with this purpose, they are equipped, convicted, encouraged, and exhorted through the Holy Spirit. Life Transformation: We at FBCE value changed lives. As we grow in our relationship with Jesus, a necessary component of that growth is a changed life. Just as fire consumes that which is close to it, so the influence of the world, the flesh and the devil is consumed in us as we grow closer to Jesus. This life-change results in serving others more willingly, yielding to the Holy Spirit more consistently, being more gracious and forgiving in our relationships, and being more Christ-like in our attitudes and affections. ~ Pastor Roy Kris Jack..Kris is still residing at a Lindsay facility after suffering a stroke. Please continue to pray for Kris during her recovery and peace and patience for she and her family. Ben & Maria Partin..Ben returned to ICU this past weekend. Continued prayers for Ben and Maria. 3 From the Board... Annual Business Meeting: FBC's Annual Business Meeting will be held October 7th immediately following the worship service. The agenda includes a review and acceptance of last year's congregational meeting minutes, election of Elders and individuals to serve on next year's Nominating Committee, receiving new members, approving a budget, and a short update on ministries from the past year. Following the business meeting a potluck will be held for all. Elections: Monte Mello and Dave Theis are being recommended for the position of Elder for a three year term. (For purposes of clarity, Monte is being recommended for a second back-to-back term.) In addition, Paige Ainely, Kari Horton, and Candace Price are being recommended as members from the church at large to serve on next year's Nominating Committee. Elections will be held at the Annual Business Meeting October 7th. Chairman s Note: Several years ago, the Congregation agreed to elect an additional elder to help facilitate FBC s ministries. This was when Elders led the Committees before we had Ministry Coordinators. Now, however, with the help of the Ministry Coordinators, we are recommending only two men be elected in place of the three whose terms are ending this year. This allows us to have a total of six Elders serving at one time: two elected each year to fill a three-year term. The Board will be recommending some updates in the language in FBC s Constitution to address this and some other concerns this next year. The terms for James Jordan, Frank Ainley, and Monte Mello end September 30, 2018, and these three positions will be replaced with just two. Please join me in thanking these men for a job very well done! New Members: Tim & Kathi Tarbell, Mike & Mishael McDougal, and Matt & Shilene Andreise have completed the Discovery Class and will be accepted into membership October 7th. The Board is excited to have these new folks as part of the FBC Family. Church Budget: The Board has been working diligently in preparing the budget to be presented at the annual meeting. Because of the costs associated with the transition of pastors, the new budget will be adjusted accordingly. The Board appreciates your prayers and financial support for these needs. Ministry Coordinators: The Board has been enthusiastic and appreciative of the roles the Ministry Coordinators have played this past year. Their leadership has been a huge blessing on all fronts! A thank you is extended to all, but special thanks goes out to Nancy Van Dellen who provided such effective leadership of the Fellowship Committee and will be stepping down. The addition of an Evangelism Committee is something the Board is excited about we would like FBC to be more purposeful in its strategies and work in bringing folks to Christ. Another big change relates to the Outreach Committee which Susan Mello has been leading. After on-going consideration, the Board has decided outreach will now be a function of all committees. The focus on young families/adult ministries will be continued under the Adult Ministries umbrella with Susan serving as a member of this committee. For various reasons, other movement of Ministry Coordinators has taken place and is reflected in the list below: Adult: TBD Fellowship: Dion Deitz AWANA: Brian Horton Lifeline: Kim Needham Care: Frank Ainley Missions: Kari Horton Children's Church: Karen Redfield Stewarship: Chuck Bartlett Evangelism: TBD Worship: Barbara Hallmeyer 4:12 Youth: Anastacio Valdez

We re looking for members that would enjoy writing an article occasionally. It could be anything from how you shared Jesus with a coworker or friend, your testimony, how a Bible verse touched your heart, or what the Lord has done for you in times of trouble. If this sounds like something you would be interested in contact Kim Needham at Chung Vannorsdall Luis Destrade 21st-Doug Rydberg 22nd-Joe Hallmeyer 23rd-Emmett Deitz 26th-Shilene Andriese 27th-Gary Holder 28th-A.J Theis 29th-Dave Theis 30th Reyes Aguilar If we re missing your birthday or anniversary, please call or text Dion Deitz at ! AWANA kicked off with a BANG!--19 children worth of bang to be exact! It was exciting to see so many kids returning with friends or other family youngsters in tow. Sparkies and TNT's were divided into groups ranging from one to three children, and when you are helping children memorize scripture, those are great group sizes. The groups with three usually had a helper as well! Volunteers rocked it the whole time, and AWANA bucks were flying into hands of kids who deserved them! It was a terrific and blessed first meeting with many more to come! 5 Focus on 4:12 Getting to Know Our Youth! Alyssa Gonzalez is a favorite of Mrs. Hengst and Mrs. Davis, because of the awesome young woman we ve seen her become! I told her I was going to start interviewing our youth group kids, and she was the first one I thought of! Here s her story!: I appreciate you picking me first! I have been going to youth group since the beginning of my 8th grade year & I am currently a senior in high school. I was 14 when I started attending & I just turned 18 years old. High school has definitely been a roller coaster, but anything is possible if you put your heart and soul into it, which I ALWAYS do. I'm extremely dedicated when it comes to my education & sports. I put my distractions on the side and I focus on all my responsibilities. Attending youth night has taught me multiple life lessons, one of the life lessons was that there is always time (time is very limited) I managed having two jobs, double sporting, & being able to attend youth night. It teaches you a lot, either it's reading Gods word or even just asking one of the adults that are there. I always looked forward to youth night, no matter how exhausted I am, you'll see me there :)Throughout high school I have participated in the ASP club. The sports that I've played throughout my high school years consist of: volleyball, basketball, track & field, and softball. I currently have a recruiter that is from COS, that wants me to play for his woman's basketball team, I'd be playing as a point guard straight after high school. Once I graduate I plan on joining the military to become a marine. I also plan on attending at COS here in Visalia for my 1st two years of college, and later plan on transferring to a bigger and better school. I want to major in kinesiology, which is a study of human movements (PE teacher). I hope and I know that I'm able to pursue my dreams! Alyssa Gonzalez

6 Plans are set for our annual Christmas dinner! Mark your calendars for November 30th at 6pm to join us at Whitney Ranch just outside of Exeter to kick off the Christmas season. Tickets will be $35 and will go on sale in November. It will be a wonderful time of food and fellowship to celebrate the birth of our King! Children's Church has already begun rehearsing for its Christmas Program! There will be a special Elderwood twist to it this year so make sure to mark your calendars for December 16th! PARENTS---please make sure your child comes to practice EVERY Sunday, if possible, as there are only 10 Sundays left to learn a lot of songs! Likewise, there are only 10 Sundays left to help poor people around the world through Samaritan's Purse. Please help open your child's heart to helping others with their Children's Church offerings. Every little bit helps! Be sure to join us on October 7th after services for our annual business meeting followed by a...potluck! You ll be able to get updated on new elders, new members and approve a budget for next year. You ll also hear a quick review of this past year and what we have planned for the future! For the potluck: A-K please bring a main dish and dessert and L-Z a main dish and salad. See you all there!
