November 2018 Lifeline Staff: Kim Needham, Becky Davis, Dion Deitz, Courtney Hengst, Pat Justice November is the month the nation pauses to give thanks for national and personal blessings. We are a blessed people. Paul wrote to the Colossian church: So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness (2:6-7 NIV). There are a lot of negatives in life and it requires conscious effort to turn away from complaining and offer thanks to the One Who loves us and cares for every detail of our lives. I hope this month abounds with daily thanks to Jesus for His bountiful blessings. Last month I listed the first four core values listed in the church s strategic plan: Relationship, Great Commission, Bible Centered Preaching and Education, and Life Transformation. Following are the final four. These values only benefit the church as each of us is mindful of them and seek to incorporate them into our daily behavior. Core Values: Core values are the identifying characteristics of our church. Some of these are aspirational (not yet present) and some are actual (already present). These are the marks that distinguish Foothill Bible Church. Authenticity: We at FBCE value authenticity in our relationships with each other and with God. This value is displayed through honesty about our struggles, and being genuine in our walk with God before each other and the world. We see authenticity as an opportunity to highlight God s grace, love, and mercy in our lives in spite of our brokenness. Grace: We at FBCE understand that each one of us, starting with the leadership, is in desperate need of God s grace. We are desperate for His grace to begin a relationship with Jesus, and just as desperate to sustain a relationship with Jesus as He provides the desire and the strength to accomplish His work in and through us. It is only by God s grace, through the work of Jesus on the Cross, that we have the power to walk with God. Finally, we recognize that God s gracious love toward us must be reflected in our treatment of others. Prayer: We at FBCE endeavor to value prayer as essential to the life of the church and the restoration to fellowship between man and God. We see prayer as a necessary element of our unity,
implore our Good Father with each other s hurts, dreams, praises, and hopes. We see prayer as a path to humility where our weaknesses are openly and honestly brought to God before each other. We see prayer as the lifeline through which God s power will change our homes, neighborhoods, and beyond. Godly Leadership: We at FBCE hold to the importance of godly leadership within the local church body. To this end, the leadership of FBCE endeavors to meet the biblical qualifications for godly leaders and to elect new leaders who also value those qualifications. Further, we want leaders who are examples to the congregation in humility, grace, and love. We value the leadership model that Jesus provided, one where people are drawn after the irresistible beauty of Him rather than being coerced and driven. -Pastor Roy From the Board... New Committee: At a recent Board meeting it was agreed to establish and empower an additional committee to assist FBC ministries with technology and to take leadership of the tasks involving technology throughout the church. This includes: social media accounts, the church website, technology needs related to the Sunday morning worship hour, taping and posting weekly sermons on the website, distributing church s (praise and prayer requests, announcements, Lifeline editions, etc.), monitoring the alarm system, assisting committees with technology needs, developing and implementing the use of an electronic calendar to schedule church events, etc. etc. etc. Aimii Redemer will serve as Ministry Coordinator and welcomes those who feel led to assist in this ministry. Please contact her if you are interested in helping. Youth Safety Program: The Board has long recognized FBC's need to establish, and implement, a youth safety program, and it is now ready to get the job done. Such a program will not only help protect our young people, but it could also protect our church from lawsuits which might arise if an injury or accident should take place related to one of our involvements with children. After almost eight months, the Department of Justice has finally approved FBC's application for providing Live Scan background checks for those working with our youngsters. As most know, this screening is being strongly encouraged and/or required by schools, camps, youth organizations, churches, etc. (basically, wherever adults are working with kids). FBC's insurance provider has encouraged us to get our youth safety program in place. Over the next few months, Randy Redfield and Jesse Decker will be meeting with the Ministry Coordinators who work with children to develop a recommendation for the Board's approval. Please pray for God's leadership in this challenging work. Board Officers: The following will be FBC's Church Officers for the school year: Board Chair - Randy Redfield Vice Chair - Monte Mello Secretary - Tom Redemer Treasurer - Paul Jobe New Members: The Board is happy and excited to welcome the following new members: Tim and Kathi Tarbell, Mike and Mishael McDougal, and Matt and Shilene Andriese.

We have new members! Please welcome Michael & Mishael McDougal, Tim & Kathi Tarbell and Matt & Shilene Andriese!! Their faces are familiar but now they re bound to us forever!! Getting to know...the Dave Theis family We used to only get to see Dave and his family when he was taking his vacation time from pastoring another church. Now we are privileged to not only have their family as part of ours, but Dave has just joined our Board of Elders! Here s their story Dave grew up in Hanford, graduating from Hanford High in After graduation, he joined the Marine Corps., where he served as a Criminal Investigator. He then attended Trinity College of the Bible and Seminary, where he earned his degree in Biblical Studies and Theology. He now serves as Director of Ministry Operations for the Visalia Rescue Mission. In his spare time, Dave likes to golf, watch sports, and work on model trains. His favorite movies are John Wayne s Quiet Man, and McClintock, and anything Star Trek (not Star Wars). His three favorite books are the Bible, westerns, and Sci-Fi. Sandy (Faubel) Theis grew up in Woodlake, and graduated from Woodlake High in She attended Golden State College, studying bookkeeping, which she now puts to good use as a bookkeeper for AAA Quality Services in Farmersville. (Which is celebrating its 60th year in business this year!) In her spare time, she crochets and sews, and enjoys watching Hallmark Mystery Channel movies, and reading mystery novels. Dave and Sandy met in 1994 when Dave went to work at AAA Quality Services (based in Visalia at the time). They started dating about three months later, and were married April 13, Dave and Sandy have two sons: A.J. (21), and Will (19). AJ is a reservist in the US Marines and works as a mechanic with AAA Quality Services. Will is a part-time student in the Ag. Business Management Program at C.O.S. He also works for AAA Quality Services. (Are you seeing a pattern, here? It s a Faubel family tradition!) Both A.J. and Will attended school in Woodlake, and graduated from Woodlake High. Both were very active in sports, and both were faithful attenders in the FBCE youth programs. (And BOTH have served as camp counselor for our FBC youth! Thanks, Theis men!)

Special thanks to chaperones Kathi Tarbell and Courtney Hengst and EXTRA SPECIAL thanks to our van driver, Mishael McDougal who is licensed to drive our over-sized van. That was a huge help. :) A quote from one of the kids: "Mrs. Hengst, this is such a fun way to spend a Friday night." Yes, indeed. Praise God for this
Please remember all of our veterans on November 11th....The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold and my refuge; My savior, You save me from violence. I call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised, And I am saved from my enemies. 2 Samuel 22:2-4
PO Box 248, Elderwood, CA Worship Service: 10:00A.M. with Children s Church (5th grade & below) O God, You are my God; I shall seek You earnestly; My soul thirsts for You, my flesh yearns for You, In a dry and weary land where there is no water. Thus I have seen You in the sanctuary, To see Your power and Your glory. Because Your lovingkindness is better than life, My lips will praise You. Psalm 63:1-3
