We should be preparing for next year what we as a lodge what we should accomplish in 2016.The following is a quote to contemplate upon. "Freemasonry is a moral order, instituted by virtuous men, with the praiseworthy design of recalling to our remembrance the most sublime truths, in the midst of the most innocent and social pleasures, founded on liberality, brotherly love and charity." (ARNOLD) Everyone please enjoy Thanksgiving and may the Great Architect of the Universe watch all the Brothers and families. 2 From the West My Brothers All, On October 28th at our Stated Communication held at Englewood Lodge, Brother Steve Marotta was passed to the Degree of Fellowcraft. Congratulations to Brother Steve! I would like to thank R:.W:. Barry Hart for giving the Winding Stairs Lecture he did a great job. It was also a pleasure to welcome R:.W:. Ed Lanham on his first time visit to our Lodge. Last, and certainly not least, I would like to thank the Brothers of Englewood Lodge for allowing us to use their facilities. In other Lodge business, we agreed to make a donation to the SWFL Chapter of the Blue Star Mothers for a holiday wreath to be placed a veterans grave at Sarasota National Cemetery next month. On behalf of veterans everywhere, thank you for your support and remembrance. Finally, may all of you and your families have a safe, happy and healthy Thanksgiving. Fraternally, On the Level, Robert Moschini, SW Masonic Education DISCUSSION IN LODGE All sectarian discussion, all argument or statement pro or con as to the merits of civil politics, or any given religion or theological creed, of racial questions, or private business, or of any other non-masonic subject by which Masons might be divided into classes, feuds, schisms, or opposed schools, is at all times forbidden. It is strictly forbidden to discuss a petitioner or for a Mason to reveal how he has voted or in any way to seek to persuade members to vote one way or another on a petitioner. All uses of personalities, all expressions of bitterness or ill will, acrimoniousness, and all or any slurs upon the Lodge or its Officers, Grand Lodge or its Officers, and the Fraternity itself, and all flippant, unseemly, or discourteous remarks addressed to the Lodge or to its Officers are condemned alike by the principles of common courtesy and etiquette and by the disciplinary laws of the Craft. This is not to say that a Master Mason, particularly one who has acted as a Representative in Grand Lodge, should not inform the Craft fully and completely as to what has taken place in Grand Lodge. Such a report can be rendered truthfully and with dignity and without the use of personalities, and this rule, of course, should always he observed. A Brother wishing to participate in a discussion in open Lodge should always rise and address the Worshipful Master. He should speak on the subject at issue in the fewest possible words, not using his privilege of the floor as an opportunity to deliver a speech merely for its own sake.
3 Brethren Develop an attitude of gratitude, and give thanks for everything that happens to you, knowing that every step forward is a step toward achieving something bigger and better than your current situation. - Brian Tracy From the South My brothers, happy Thanksgiving to everyone, I hope to see everyone at are stated meeting this month. The year is winding down. And we have alot to look forward too in the up coming year. Be safe and have a great holiday. Michael Short, JW DeMolay Update C. Allen Pattison Chapter Order of DeMolay sponsored by and Venice Lodge No. 301 is still growing. This last month Sarasota Chapter Sponsored by Sarasota Lodge No. 147 hosted the Initiatory Degree for C. Allen Pattison Chapter. Our membership is now up to 11 members. Our Brother Chapter, Sarasota Chapter Order of DeMolay received their official charter this November 1st. It's been a wonderful 5 year endeavor and journey for those working with Sarasota Chapter. A new journey begins with new goals. We hope to follow by their example and earn our charter as well. C. Allen Pattison Chapter was recently recognized at the Vex Robotics Competition - Battle At Bradenton. To quote our Senior Councilor, "We got a Trophy!" The Judges Award goes to a team the judges decide is deserving of special recognition. Judges consider a number of possible criteria for this award, such as team displays of special attributes, exemplary effort and perseverance at the event. A duplicate trophy will be obtained for the trophy case where we meet. Congratulations Sarasota Chapter!!!
4 Sickness and Distress Follow Us Online This Thanksgiving Season, let us pause and give thanks for all the blessing and gifts that God has bestowed upon us. Let us also pray for those serving our great nation overseas and are unable to make it home. We are thankful for their sacrifice. Brethren we have a number of those who could use your appeal to the Great Architect of the Universe. Brethren please keep all those who truly need your prayers, in your thoughts. May God bless and watch over us all until we meet again. North Port Masonic Lodge No North Port Lodge s own webpage. www. NorthportMasons.com. 12 Master Mason 1, 2, & 3 sessions Are the Master Mason 1, 2, & 3 Exams a part of your Masonic Record? (Have this read at your 25, 40, 50, 55, 60, 65, 70, & 75 year awards!) Have your Masonic knowledge recorded for all time. As Freemasons, one should always remember, "AN EDUCATED MASON IS A DEDICATED MASON." As we endeavor to educate more of our Brothers in Masonry, we will see that this is a true phrase. As they learn, they become more active and attendance increases and stronger bonds are developed between themselves. Even the most learned men learn something new each day. This keeps us interested and active. It will take work and dedication on our part, but the results will be very rewarding. During the months of June & July we will be holding Master Mason 1, 2, & 3 Exam sessions. Brethren, this is an open book activity that once successfully completed, will be recorded in your Masonic Record. If you are a member of North Port Lodge & have not done this, I challenge you to complete these exams. The Activity is Open Book Work With Others To Answer The Questions Let s have all members receive this recognition in time for the Grand Master s visit. - Watch for s and postings concerning the scheduling of these exams - Dates and Times to be announced. Questions and answer sheets can be found at:
13 North Port Lodge Picnic - EVENT SPECIFICS - Date: Saturday, October 26, 2013, Time: Starts at 11 am, serving around Noon. Where: Dallas White Park Pavilion What we are having: Food ( Brats, Dogs, Chicken), Drinks, Games, Contests (best costume, best Side- Dish), and Music (bring your UmmPaPa) Cost: $8 per person (with one side-dish per couple), $10 coming empty handed! BRING A SIDE DISH (one of the following) Potato Pancakes (Kartoffelpuffer or Reibekuchen) Pan Fried Potatoes (Bratkartoffel or Kerschder) Potato Dumplings (Kartoffelklöße) Potato Salad (Kartoffelsalat) Potato Soup (Kartoffelsuppe) Kroketten are rolls of mashed potatoes and other ingredients, that are dipped in eggs and bread crumbs, then fried to a golden brown. They are served as an accompaniment to meat dishes (they go especially go well with meat dishes with sauces). Schupfnudeln (Also known as Kartoffelnudeln and Fingernudeln) Schupfnudeln are the most popular side dish to meats. Schupfnudeln are made out of cooked, mashed potatoes and formed into finger-thick noodles. Other ingredients include flour, salt, pepper, nutmeg, and egg. They are cooked in salt water for 3 minutes, then pan fried in butter until crispy and golden brown. Potato Cake (Kartoffelkuchen) It is made with a yeast dough base, which is topped with an egg and potato mixture. Buttermilk Potato Pancakes (Buttermilchgetzen) Buttermilk potato pancakes originated in the Ore Mountain region (Erzgebirge) in Saxony. Here they make their potato pancakes with the addition of buttermilk, eggs, onions, and bacon. Heaven and Earth (Himmel und Erde) Himmel und Erde is a dish made from potatoes, apple sauce, and bacon. In the Rhineland, it accompanies Blutwurst. In Mecklenburg, is is made with pureed pears instead of apple sauce. Sweet & Sour Potatoes (Saures Kartoffelgemüse) Sour & Sour Potatoes are a specialty of Bavaria (Bayern). Potatoes are cooked with other root vegetables, such as carrots. The mixture is then seasoned with sugar and vinegar to give the dish a sweet and sour flavor. Hoppelpoppel In this dish, meat is cut into strips. It is then scrambled together with eggs, potatoes, onions, and seasonings. Sweet Apple & Potato Noodles (Schleizer Bambser) A dough is made from cooked potatoes, apples, eggs, and sugar. They are placed over noodles, then the dish topped with cinnamon sugar and is baked in the oven until golden brown. Liver Dumplings (Leberknödel) Liver dumplings are dumplings made from calf's or beef liver, along with onions, bread, and herbs and spices. Some recipes also include bacon. Liver dumplings are most often served in a soup (Liver Dumpling Soup) as an appetizer or as a side dish. Käse-Spätzle Red Cabbage (Rotkraut) Sauerkraut Cakes, Baked Goods, & Desserts Apple Strudel (Apfelstrudel) Bienenstich: This is a traditional Blechkuchen made from a yeast dough and topped with a butter-sugar-almond mixture. During baking, this topping caramelizes, giving the cake a shiny appearance. After baking, the cake is often also filled with a vanilla cream. Dampfnudel: Dampfnudel is a traditional dish in Southern Germany. They are made from a yeast dough and formed into balls. The balls are cooked in a pot with a little liquid. In Bavaria, this liquid is milk and butter. In Palatinate, this liquid is salt water and butter. As the liquid boils, it both cooks and steams the Dampfnudel. The result is a Dampfnudel with a crispy bottom and soft top (from steaming). They can be made with or without a filling. The Palatinate version is generally unfilled. Kaiserschmarrn: Kaiserschmarren is a sweet pancake and is one of the best known warm desserts in Bavaria. Main Ingredients: The pancake is made with flour, milk, eggs, butter, rum-soaked raisins, and sugar. It is often topped with sugar and almonds. Lebkuchen: Lebkuchen, also called Pfefferkuchen, is German gingerbread. These cookies are either rectangular or round, they have a sweet, lightly nutty taste, and their aroma is spicy, a bit like nutmeg and allspice. They are usually soft with a slight crunch from chopped nuts. Plum Cake (Zwetschgenkuchen): The Zwetschgenkuchen is a Blechkuchen made with a yeast dough (or sometimes a dough with baking powder as leavening instead of yeast). The dough is rolled out and placed on a baking sheet, then topped with halved Zwetschgen (Italian Prume Plums). It is usually then topped with crumbs made of white granulated sugar, butter, and flour. Pretzels: Speaks for itself! Soft, any shape. Not the Store bought ones!
14 From the West Now we can get back to work. We have several Entered Apprentice Brothers working on the Catechism so they can be passed to Fellowcraft. This is the time we need brothers to step up. We have been holding practice sessions for ritual in general, and aiming at the EA degree for the most part. Since we have more brothers in the advancement class, we need to get serious about our Fellowcraft Degree. Our Lodge year is rapidly coming to an end, so it is essential that we are able to Pass and Raise all the brothers "in progress" prior to December. The Grand Lodge prefers to NOT handle the administrative duties for raising new Master Masons during December. It is a very busy time for Grand Lodge due to the Particular Lodge elections, dues collection, etc. not to mention handing a new Master Mason his dues card, and a dues notice for the new year at the same time. Without fail, we need a minimum of 3 practice sessions with all participants in attendance. We will continue to piggyback on with Punta Gorda #115's Monday practice sessions, but we need to come up with evenings that we can have a serious practice session for the Fellowcraft Degree. It will be difficult, but I know we can step up and make it happen. our District School for October in Sarasota is cancelled, due to the MWGM Visit to the 28th district on Oct 11th, and the 27th district on Oct 12th. Our JW, Bro. Mike Tirpak will confer the FC degree, this is his first time in the East in several years so lets get together and make this Degree happen! If we have any brothers who need transportation to lodge or even practice call one of our officers, we will find a way to get a Brother to Lodge. Sideline brothers, think about it, if you have not taken an appointed office in the past, Why Not? this may be the ideal time for you to begin your journey East, or at least learn a few of the shorter speaking parts in order to fill in when a sitting officer is ill, stuck at work, or can't be at lodge for whatever reason. it's not very difficult and can be very rewarding. On a totally different subject, My wife and I have been doing our best to help a few of our local orthopedic surgeons fill up their retirement plans, and it continues, once my wife's right hand heals, they will perform the same procedure on her left, but in the interim, I will be having my back fixed (hopefully) I've been struggling with it for several years, and am getting to the point that I can't wait any longer. The Surgeon has informed me that I will be out of commission for two weeks, severely restricted in my activities for 6 weeks, then on "limited duty" for 4 additional months. This will be a total of 6 months out of work. Those of you who know me well will understand that not working for 6 months will be very difficult for me. I'm the guy that calls the office while on vacation to see if there is anything going on that I can help with Thankfully, Masonic Labor is more mental that physical, and I will be able to devote much of my recovery time in the Masonic Quarries. My surgery will slow me down during late October, and November, but I'll be able to devote a lot of time to our Lodge, near the end of the year when we need it the most. Thank you all in advance for the prayers and good wishes. It will be a pretty stressful few months for us. See you in Lodge! Greetings from the West! Finally the long hot summer weather is breaking, the forecasts for the next few nights are lows in the 70s, with the daytime highs back into the 80s. Now it's easy to remember why we live in Florida! Our last stated communication was well attended and the snowbirds are just starting to arrive. Welcome back Brothers! Mike Cullen, Senior Warden The Pot of Gold You came with me on a long arduous journey, Through many forests and jungles; The paths confusing and twisted, Sometimes, I made you miss a turning; And finally we reached the end, There was no promised pot of gold. But then my brethren, it is not the gold; It was the search itself; The journey and your comradeship, The jungles we saw The forests we conquered The rivers we forded, And the links we made. It would not have happened If it was not for the pot of gold
