1 Covenant Presbyterian Church The Rev. Lynda Hyland Burris, Interim Pastor Visitors Welcome! Sunday worship: 10:30 am 1226 Salvador Avenue, Napa, CA THE CRIER is published monthly, on or about the first of the month. The deadline for submissions is the 3rd Sunday of the month. Follow us on Facebook: www/facebook.com/cpcnapa Visit our Website: Communion is served on the 1st Sunday of every month. All are welcome! THE CRIER MEANWHILE... Blessing in the Shape of a Cross Press this blessing into your palms right, left and you will see how it leaves its mark, how it imprints itself into your skin, how the lines of it meet and cross as if signaling you to the treasure that has been in your grasp all along. Except that these riches you will count not by what you hold but by what you release, by what you lose, by what falls from your open hands. Jan Richardson March 2018

At the February meeting discussion was held regarding election of a moderator and clerk. Thanks to Doreen Wilkinson who has agreed to take the clerk position. The new Moderator will be Kim Groeneweg. An updated list of Care Group Leaders is on page 6-7. If you are a CPC member and do not see your name please contact the office. Deacon list has been updated and the Deacon of the Month chart has been completed and revised. Deacon of the Month picks up the elements, prepares communion each month, and is responsible for getting a greeter for each week. This month s Deacons Meeting is on March 1, 2018 at 7:00 pm. in the parlor. Quest for Knowledge On February 28, the Book Club met to discuss Exit West by Mohsin Hamid. The next meeting will be in April and the title is not selected yet. To join the group, talk to Donna Kadel, Carol McCormick, or Del Hall. Garden News There are new consistent Garden Work Hours: every Monday from 4-6 pm and the 2nd Saturday of each month from If no one is there, there will be a clipboard with "garden tasks" and on the clipboard there will be the combination to the lock on the shed where the tools are. The garden still needs tomato cages and if anyone has usable redwood boards, the CanDoCanGrow garden is building raised beds. Call Barb or Tony McClimans, former Napa County Planner, responded to an on-line plea for help with an offer to mill downed Redwoods for the planter boxes AND to bring his tractor to rototill in mid March. The miracles abound in the garden. We are still looking for a creative person to draft a sign for us. Both Donaldson Way and Montessori are connecting with the garden to help students understand the concept of growing food for those who may not have a steady supply. We will be talking about the Food Bank as well as Latinos Unidos organization. ~Barb Pahre March Birthdays March 1 Cheyenne Flower March 2 Tricia Flower March 5 Kayla Bernabe March 10 Rollin Wilkinson March 13 Doug Manning March 15 Michael Burkett March 20 Jane Snedaker March 22 Arthur Howson March 30 Dave Douma March 30 Karen Grobl March Anniversaries March 21 Dave & Kim Douma March 25 Norm & Mae Groeneweg
5 Page 8 March 2018 Covenant Crier Covenant Crier March 2018 Page 5 The Recipe Page Several years ago the Deacons compiled recipes submitted by our congregation to create our very own cookbook, The Covenant Cookery. There are main dishes, cakes, salads, and fancy drinks. Our cookbook reminds me of the good old days of church picnics and Easter egg hunts and sack races, and of course, the sharing of recipes after tasting delicious food. Since we re one big family, I m adding a new feature, The Recipe Page, where we ll share some favorites. Some I will select from The Covenant Cookery but if you d like to submit a recipe for future consideration, the office (or write the recipe out clearly and leave it on my desk). For March, I ve chosen one you ll recognize. ~ Diana Norm Groeneweg s Famous Bread Pudding 4 cups bread, packed firmly 4 cups milk 1 dozen eggs 1 cup sugar 1 tsp vanilla cinnamon as desired 1 jar caramel ice cream topping Mix together all ingredients except caramel topping. Stir well. Place in 9x13 well greased pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Pour caramel ice cream topping evenly on top right after you remove pudding from the oven, while it s still piping hot! Enjoy!
