Primary School Autumn Term; Issue November 2014 The Brooke Report Lest We Forget O n a beautiful, crisp and clear morning, with the sun streaming down on us, we walked to St. Peter s Church. Tuesday the 11th was Armistice Day and we took the opportunity to gather around the village War Memorial to celebrate the lives and commemorate the sacrifice of those from Brooke who had been killed in either the First or Second World War. Rev. Lynn Harrison led us in a very thoughtful short service in the church and encouraged us, with the help of Cecil, a very long and very hairy caterpillar, to remember the sacrifice these men had made. She pointed out, around the church, the many things that helped us to remember people and events.. From the memorial plaques on the walls, to the cross on the wall, the stained-glass window and the font all have stories to tell of the journey of faith and people who have gone before us. Having read out the names of all those who died during the wars, we stood for a minute s silence at 11:00. I am proud to say that the silence was kept immaculately and a real sense of reverence was felt by all. Learning together, achieving together, growing together in God s love.

3 T h e Brooke Report A u t u m n T erm; Issue 10 P a g e 3 Christmas Fayre I f any parent would like to take a stall at this years Christmas Fayre on Saturday December 6th, from 2 4pm then please speak to Sally Young in the school playground, or by phone on or by at: forever.young@o2.co.uk Tables cost 10 and we operate on a first come first served basis. Many thanks, Sally Young and the Brooke PTFA. F riday November 28th will be the Chocolate-Non- Uniform Day on which the children may come to school out of uniform, at a cost of a bar or box of chocolate to be used as a prize at the Christmas Fayre. I promise to keep all the chocolate safe until the day. B oxes will be put out in the reception area from Monday onwards for donations for the SECRET SANTA stall. For those of you who don t know about it; at the Christmas Fayre the children have the opportunity to buy their Christmas present for YOU and have it wrapped ready to give to you on the day without your knowledge. It is a very popular stall, usually held in Swallow Class and run by the staff, giving the children the opportunity to buy something you would like without your knowing! So please fill the boxes with gifts for male and female for the children to choose. It s not like it was in my day... S ay Goodbye and farewell to school dinners of the past. We can all remember the rather strange-looking, congealed blobs that passed for food years ago. Our meals are the talk of the town, and this week we welcomed our first guests to sample a fine lunch with their children. Apart from the rather sub-standard waiter (who should go back to his other job!) the meal was thoroughly enjoyed by all, to the extent that they wanted seconds! As we go forwards I hope more and more of you will take this opportunity to enjoy a good meal at school with your children. Passport Stamps S everal people have been to see me with evidence of their Half-term activities for the Half-Term Challenge. I have stamped passports for all those I have seen, so if you have not brought me your passport and evidence please do it soon. For all our clubs I will be asking you to bring your passports once each half term and I will fill them in with information from the register that is taken at Gymnastics, Cross Country, TAG Rugby, Netball and Drama so please don t come each week wanting a stamp, I ll do them all together. We are always open to ideas and ways to improve what we offer, so if there are particular things you would like to see on the menu, please let me know. This term we are learning THE LORD S PRAYER in class and in assembly and thinking about what it means.
