1 The Lighthouse MONTHLY NEWSLETTER DECEMBER 2018 VOLUME 8 Getting to Know Your Staff Lesa Laeger, Children s Director My name is Lesa Jaeger. I was born and raised in Ephrata, Washington. I have been married to David Jaeger since May of We met in Spokane, Washington where we both went to school, and graduated from, Moody Bible Institute. I started here at the church as the Children s Director last April. I prepare all the children s classrooms every week, help parents with Check-ins and making sure the kids make it to the right classrooms, lead Children s Worship, teach, lead the Children s Christmas Program, and lead the VBS program. I love Jesus, coffee, puppies, and baking. I like to swim, cliff jump, watch movies and tv shows, and hang out with friends and family. David and I just bought our first home and brought home our very first fur baby named Jewel. 2 SCC Youth Santa Claus has the right idea. Visit people only once a year. Victor Borge David Jaeger, Youth Director This year for Christmas, my wife and I are flying out on Christmas Eve to a small town called Ephrata where we will spend Christmas with her family. It s purely coincidence that this is the only time this year we ll have visited my in-laws, and I m looking forward to it, believe it or not. On that cold, Christmas morning, I ll sit by the fire and sip hot cocoa while the glow of the beautiful Christmas lights illuminate the room. My father in law will, from his chair across the room, likely do this too. After we ve grown bored, chances are he ll ask: So anyone wanna watch a movie? to which my mother in law will reply, YES! A Hallmark Christmas Movie! Then my father in law and I will look at each other in all the Christmas glow, and run out of the house to avoid that horrible doom. Before we head out on our trip, we will be celebrating Christmas as a youth group. Sunday December 16th instead of having a regular youth night we will be having a Christmas party. Come ready to play some fun games and listen to special stories. There will also be snacks and hot cocoa provided (yummm). SCC Kids Lesa Jaeger, Children s Director Shores Kids is having a pretty busy month! It's December, and I am sure you all know what that means... the annual Children's Christmas Play! The kids have already started practicing and singing their little hearts out. But no worries, their "hearts are growing three sizes that day!" Each week they are doing a devotion that has to do with the portion of the play we are practicing that week. The play will be held on December 16 from 10:30-11:45 (during the service). Instead of having Pastor Nate preach, the children will be presenting the Christmas story and the Gospel to the Congregation and their families. Parents are more than welcome to take as many pictures as they would like, or even take video, because you won't want to miss their cuteness! Continued on next page...

3 Each week, the kids are working on a special project for the families who attend on the day of the program. Last week, we made invitations for friends and family members to join us and watch them perform, so make sure they get passed out! If your child has a line or two to memorize, please work on it with them to make sure that they are ready for our big day! Lastly, we have a BIG practice day on December 15th, from 9-11 AM. I would like to see everyone there, if they can. I know family things happen, especially around Christmas, so if you can't make it, please let me know. We will be running through the whole thing for the first time on the stage with microphones and everything, so I will need everyone, so we can make sure we all know what we are doing and if we need to work on any last-minute things. Our Christmas Eve Service on the 23, we will be having normal Children's Church. December 9 we are losing our Children's Teacher, Morgan Ottman; which means I need volunteers. In the last year, Children's Church has tripled in size, and I have a lot of amazing volunteers right now, but it still isn't enough, especially for the Christmas Service, there may be a lot of kids that show up, so I may need extra volunteers. If anyone is interested in serving in our Children's Ministry as a teacher, helper, or a server in the Nursery with all the cute, cuddly babies, I would love to talk to you. Prayer Kathy Porter, Deacon of Ministries Now that Missional Week is just about completed, we look back on it with multiple goals accomplished along with thoughts of improvement for next year. It s obvious that the folks who attend Shores Community Church want to give, and once the projects were identified, they gave. There were pillows, jackets, groceries, wrapped gifts, OCC shoe boxes and more, all symbols of the generosity of our congregation. Team effort pulled this all together; support from the church made it work. Thanks go out to Lindsey and Dave Lassanske for identifying the different programs and producing the learn, pray, act table tent, to Linnea Soderstrom with her knowledge of the food pantry and clothing store at Hope s Outlet, and Kathy Porter as Deacon of Ministries working with the church leadership and offering available information and communication. Most importantly, thank you to all those that took the time and effort to be involved. You helped to prove that many hands make light work. We were able to continue a relationship with Operation Christmas Child, renew our participation with Angel Tree, and begin efforts with Muskegon s Kid s Food Basket, Foster Care, Hope s Outlet, and Pathways to Potential. WOW! When Paul was speaking to the church of Ephesus, he said, In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how He Himself said, It is more blessed to give than to receive. At this time of Thanksgiving, and approaching the celebration of our Lord s birth, it is GOOD TO GIVE as if we are giving to the Lord Himself. Is this not the cup of cold water offered to Christ? Giving from the heart is a gift of great value. Let s outdo ourselves this holiday season giving ourselves all for the glory of God.

4 Getting To Know You (Part 6) Bob Lenz, Deacon of Missions Wilondja and Shirley Masongezi Wilonjda has a long history of serving the Lord with CRU beginning in 1974 in various ministries: as an associate pastor, chaplain of a high school, coordinator for the entire youth education for the Congo, established a two year Bible school, planted a cluster of churches in Kinshasa, Congo, and worked with the Jesus film. His first wife died in Nairobi, Kenya in 1996, and Wilondja joined Converge in Meanwhile Shirley began her ministry with CRU in Nigeria in She also worked at the Atlanta, GA office and discipled women. Shirley began serving with Converge in 1990 and was assigned to Cameroon since she had a good command of the Hausa language. She met Wilondja in 1998 and they were married two years later and began serving in the Cameroon together. In 2007, Converge asked the Masongezi s to return to Canada and help plant French speaking churches among Africans and other ethnic groups In 2013, they were assigned to west Cameroon, (French speaking) where they presently serve, reaching people with the Jesus film, couples retreats, and neighborhood Bible studies. They have been supported as a couple by SCC since They have six children (three are pastors) and eleven grandchildren. Samya was born in Beirut, Lebanon and accepted Christ at age six. She was saved from death three times during Muslim uprisings when many of her friends and neighbors were killed. She became bitter and hateful toward Muslims. But while she was in college, God softened her heart and she was able to forgive and love them. The Lord led Samya to work in a radio ministry, and it was there that she led many Muslim listeners to Christ, and helped disciple them. The Michaels immigrated to the States in 1999 and in 2001 founded Call of Love Ministries in Ohio. They have an amazing outreach through this T.V. program to the Arab world with many professing Christ as Savior on a weekly basis. The Masongezi s Monir and Samya Michael Monir is a gospel evangelist and singer. Born in Cairo, Egypt, Monir s college days were spent traveling throughout Egypt in outreach ministries, and church planting. He began a half hour Christian radio program which was broadcast throughout the Arab world. Monir has recorded 26 albums of Christian praise songs, and has a deep burden for Muslims and Arab speaking people. The Michael s
