But the angel said to them, Don t be afraid, for look, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the city of David a Savior was born for you, who is the Messiah, the Lord. Luke 2:10-11 CSB We have not seen the angel ourselves, but we see them in abundance at this time of the year in Christmas cards, lawn decorations, crèches, and actors floating down from the sky on stage. We get a warm fuzzy when we hear the trumpets, and see the bright lights (even if some of those angels look like they were dressed in a bath robe!) But let s go back to that moment in time where the lowly shepherds were doing their job of sheep tending out under the stars. They had no Christmas spirit around them, no hanging lights, no Perry Como or Bing. It was simply December Newsletter From the Pastor s Desk a silent night when they were overwhelmed with the angels and their message. If we feel Christmas joy seeing the angels, why were they terrified? Of course they startled, but I think much more was going on. Instead of being thrilled at being Touched by an Angel, they all knew that their appearing meant doom and personal destruction. Why? Because they knew their own hearts. The real truth is that we are all sinners and deserving of judgment and everlasting punishment. That s why the angel s first words were Don t be afraid! But their comforting words were not enough. The proclamation was not to be comforted, but to be aware that a Savior, the Messiah, had finally come! How aware of your own life are you? Have you met the Savior? Don t merely act bravely in times of fear, but love, follow, and depend on a Savior who has come for YOU! Pastor Larry Lottie Moon Christmas Offering Who is Lottie Moon? Charlotte Digges "Lottie" Moon was a Southern Baptist missionary to China with the Foreign Mission Board who spent nearly 40 years living and working in China. As a teacher and evangelist she laid a foundation for traditionally solid support for missions among Southern Baptists. She died in 1912, but her commitment and dedication inspires us to continue her work all over the world. Every December Southern Baptists through the International Mission Board (IMB) participate in an offering to support mission work in other countries. These missionaries leave the comforts of home to spread the gospel. The first week in December (Dec. 3-9) will be the Week of Prayer. We believe every church-regardless of size or resources-has a role to play in reaching every nation with the gospel. The Lottie Moon Christmas Offering is a critical part of that. By praying and giving, every person in our church is part of sending missionaries through IMB to unreached peoples and places around the globe. Special envelopes will be provide for your gift. Your prayers transform lives. Christmas Eve Service Una Senior Adults Our senior adults will be celebrating the holidays on December 11th at 11:00 am. A Breakfast/Brunch Christmas Party is planned. It is always a good time. Please bring a covered dish to share and a Dirty Santa gift. They will meet down the hill in the UNA-T building if the weather permits. Crop and Craft There will be NO Crop and Craft night this month! Busy... Busy...Busy Christmas cards, Christmas shopping, Christmas decorating, Christmas baking, Christmas wrapping...let s not get so caught up in the enjoyment of Christmas that we forget why we are celebrating Christmas to begin with. 4 2018 International Ladies Retreat We had a great weekend at Paris Landing State Park with 9 fabulous ladies! The weather was beautiful and the scenery breathtaking. This year s trip had an international flavor including five countries and no jet lag. The journey started on Friday with four cars making the trip to the cabin. After making some twists and turns everyone arrived safely and ready for an adventure. Our first international stop was Friday night in Italy where we enjoyed a wonderful evening meal and conversation. There were games and laughter throughout the night. Then on Saturday we traveled on to France starting with a fantastic breakfast of beignets. Following breakfast, it was off to the Eiffel Tower and Paris including beautiful architecture and scenery. When lunch time arrived, we ended up in Japan for an entertaining hibachi meal. Then on to some shopping before returning to the cabin. Once back at the cabin, there were more games played and some ladies drove around the park to take in nature s beauty including deer and some spectacular views of the lake. Then we ventured into Mexico for an excellent evening meal. Our Saturday night dessert was smores outside around the fire for some fun and conversation. Back inside the cabin, there was more game playing and watching of Hallmark movies because you can t go wrong with Hallmark movies. We also had a raccoon visit which may become the official mascot for the retreat based on the last two years. Sunday morning, we were back in the United States for a great American breakfast before starting our journey back home. If you lost count, the five countries on our international weekend were Italy, France, Japan, Mexico, and the United States. I hope everyone will be ready for our next journey. We always have fun making memories and exploring new places. Jody and I thank all the ladies for a great time. Blessings, Joy Movie Not Under the Stars On Friday, January 11, 2019 we will have our first movie night of the New Year. Instead of being under the stars, this one will be shown in the Gym at 7:00pm. What will we be showing? I Can Only Imagine. No, seriously that is the title! This is a wonderful Christian movie that the whole family, friends and neighbors will enjoy. 5 Lottie Moon Christmas Post Office On December 2nd we will have our Lottie Moon Christmas Post Office open for business. This post office is for you to wish your Una Family members a very Merry Christmas and all the proceeds go to our Lottie Moon Offering. We suggest a donation of $0.25 per card. You may put your money in the can provided at the post office or in the offering plate. Please be sure to mark your check Lottie Moon Post Office. Nashville Baptist Association Toy Store 2018 Thank you to all our Una Family and Una Childcare Families who gave to our Toy Store Drive this year. Thanks to you we will be able to help put smiles on many children s faces this year. Church Childcare Craftapalooza Thank You Thanks to all who came out to support our annual Craftapalooza. It was another great year thanks to all the booths and customers. A special thank you goes to the USA Group Ladies for the delicious coffee and donuts. Each of you helped make the morning special. Room in the Inn One good month down and several to go. Room in the Inn is in full swing and our teams are doing a great job. If you are not on a team you can still come by on a Saturday night and help. We are still in need of NEW men s underwear and socks of all sizes. Thanks go out to the USA Group for the great gift bags they made for every team to give out during the month of December.
