I am happy to announce that we will have another priest joining us on September 1, Cardinal Sean O Malley has appointed Fr. Michael Ssenfuma as Parochial Vicar of Saint Mary of the Hills Parish in Milton and of Saint Elizabeth Parish in Milton. I have had the opportunity to meet Fr. Ssenfuma and I am excited that he is joining the mission in our parishes. We have started to clean the third floor of St. Mary s Rectory and hopefully we will have the collaborative parish office all set there by August. Finally, the pastoral councils of both parishes met this week. It was the first of many meetings to start planning and organizing our collaboration efforts. May you have a blessed week! I am reading BOUNDLESS COMPASSION by Joyce Rupp. She is known for her work as a writer, spiritual midwife, international retreat leader, and conference speaker. She is an author of numerous bestselling spiritual books. She is a member of the Servants of Mary (Servites). Robert J. Wicks, a well-known spiritual writer, has commented on BOUNDLESS COMPASSION: "We learn how with true compassion realism meets hope, we are invited to sit with other wisdom figures whose words she includes in her text; and we are given the rare opportunity to personally experience a retreat - which the book really is - with one of today's spiritual midwives. This book calls us to be compassionate to others and to our ourselves for the richest way possible, with Jesus Christ as our ultimate model. MEGA SPORTS RAFFLE- June 23rd and 24th Next weekend, raffle tickets will be sold after each Mass as a fund-raiser for C.A.M.P.S. a wonderful retreat week for high school students, Monday, July 30th-Saturday, August 4th. As always, the costs continue to rise and all our operational costs depend on fund raising. Our Sports Raffle will help significantly to defray the operational costs of paying for quality speakers, updating and maintaining equipment, obtaining music copyrights, printing and mailing costs, and numerous other exciting surprises planned for the campers. Archdiocesan Announcement Annual Silver and Golden Anniversary Mass Cardinal Seán O'Malley invites all couples of the Archdiocese of Boston who are marking their 25th and 50th wedding anniversaries to attend the annual Silver and Golden Anniversary Mass and celebration. The Mass includes a renewal of marriage vows by all participating anniversary couples with family members, friends, and guests welcome. Kelly can also be reached at Tiny fingers and toes. A little yawn. A loud cry. An infant wrapped in swaddling clothes. "What will this child be?" It is a question every parent asks time and time again. As first steps are taken, as personalities emerge, as a child shows interest in reading or drawing or climbing, the question is on our lips. "What will this child be?" This question is asked as John the Baptist is born. Will he be a priest like his father? Does his strange, unexpected name signal a departure from that inheritance? Could Elizabeth and Zechariah ever have predicted what would be? Under the tutelage of his priestly father, John "became strong in spirit." As an adult, John would retreat into the desert to preach repentance. He would attract a large following and eventually attract the attention of the rulers of the day. He would point out the adulterous ways of King Herod and would find himself in prison. Eventually, he would be beheaded. But today, he is a child, an infant newly born. On this special feast, we're reminded of the great humility required of parents. The character formation, the discipline and encouragement, the violin lessons and soccer practices? every parental effort is subjected to the decisions of the child himself. Even children on a sure track by high school graduation transform under life's circumstances. Entrusting our children to God can be incredibly intimidating. "What will this child be," especially when that transformation lies outside of my control? John the Baptist's story might not have ended as his parents imagined. But he is celebrated as the greatest of the prophets, as the one who prepared the way for the Messiah. Here is the hope of all Christian parents -- that our children would be raised in such a way that when people meet them, they meet Jesus Christ.
