Starting on Good Friday, many parishioners will be praying the Divine Mercy Novena and we invite you to join us. What is Divine Mercy? From the website of the National Shrine of Divine Mercy: "The message of The Divine Mercy is simple. It is that God loves us all of us. And, he wants us to recognize that His mercy is greater than our sins so that we will call upon Him with trust, receive His mercy, and let it flow through us to others. Thus, all will come to share His joy. The Divine Mercy message is one we can call to mind simply by remembering ABC: A - Ask for His Mercy. God wants us to approach Him in prayer constantly, repenting of our sins and asking Him to pour His mercy out upon us and upon the whole world. B - Be merciful. God wants us to receive His mercy and let it flow through us to others. He wants us to extend love and forgiveness to others just as He does to us. I wondered what they meant. Enjoy your family gathering and the candy treats. Did they have a faith filled meaning in their greeting? Let us look through the eyes of the persons who witnessed the first Easter. Mary Magdalene announced the empty tomb to the Apostles, Peter and John. They all saw the same thing but didn't look at it the same way. The Bible says Peter went into the empty tomb and saw strips of linen laying around and the cloth that Jesus had been buried in folded neatly and placed where the body had been. "Very interesting", Peter may have said to himself. The Bible tells us that Mary didn't even go inside the empty tomb. She just stood outside the tomb and cried because she feared someone had stolen the body of Jesus. The Bible says that John went inside the tomb and he saw and believed. He believed that Jesus had risen from the grave just as He said He would. Three people all saw the same thing - one was curious, one was sad, and one believed. Perhaps people today react to the Resurrection of Jesus today in the same way. Some people hear the story and they are curious, others hear it and are sad, others hear it and believe. As Christians, we boldly profess in the Apostles' Creed: "He descended to the dead and on the third day He rose again. and I believe in the resurrection of the body." Hopefully, on this Feast of the Resurrection of Christ we pray: "Dear Lord, today we look into an empty tomb and proclaim: "The Lord has risen from the dead, as He foretold. Let there be happiness and rejoicing for He is our King". A truly Happy Easter to all! Bible Study The Spring Series will begin on April 14 at 10 A.M. in the rectory conference room. The theme will be THE BEATI- TUDES. The modern quest for spiritual fulfillment is met with profound insights from the Beatitudes. In this series, attention is focused on how St. Matthew's short introduction to the Sermon on the Mount prepares us to open our hearts and minds to the significance of Christ's timeless teachings which he begins with nine blessings. Materials will be supplied. God has written a unique, one-of-a-kind, for all-eternity story with your life. Women are invited to join us in study beginning this Tuesday. Bereavement Support Group: Walking through Grief Have you experienced the loss of a loved one recently? You aren t alone. Sessions for those experiencing loss through death of a family member or friend begin April 17, for 7 consecutive Tuesdays, ending May 29th from 6:00 P.M. -7:30 P.M. LOCATION: Rectory of St. Mary of the Hills Parish, Milton. Sponsored by the Milton Catholic Churches. For 7 weeks, we will grow to understand the significance of telling the stories of what God has done in our lives. Story is a funny thing. We tend to measure a story s worth based on how interesting it is. However, I think we actually crave something deeper than interesting I think we actually crave stories we relate to, stories where we see ourselves, and stories where there is a hero. And if that is what we re all craving connection to each other and to God then every single one of us has a story to tell and certainly a Hero to boast in. Jennie Allen For six weeks, we will be encouraged and equipped in the importance of sharing our stories how we came to faith, how God redeemed our lives, and how He continues to write and shape our stories for His glory. We ll read what the Bible says about it and hear examples from some of our friends about how God has used their stories in other people s lives. And, together, we ll practice sharing our stories.
