October is one of the months that are traditionally dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary. As we are journeying together in Christ, it is important that we are all getting to know Our Blessed Mother better and are looking to her intercession to know what her Son is asking of us. We would all do well to find some little thing we can do each day to walk with Mary: to say the rosary, to pray the Memorare, to intentionally offer a spiritual or corporal work of mercy to Jesus through Mary. As St. Maxmillian Kolbe said, Never be afraid of loving the Blessed Virgin too much. You can never love her more than Jesus did. October is also the time that we begin our Grand Annual Collection. Even though we are in collaboration, the Grand Annual collection for each parish is separate. To whichever parish you are registered, you will be getting a letter for that church. If you are not registered in either parish, please call the collaborative office and the secretaries will help you register. As many of you know, the Grand Annual is a very important collection for us. It goes towards a significant portion of the operations of the parish. The upkeep of the grounds, the utilities, social events all of these need funding beyond the weekly collection. It is my hope that with our Grand Annual, we can also address facilities maintenance. Both churches and all buildings have many years on them and we have discovered a number of things that need our attention. Thank you for what you are able to offer to help us strengthen our churches and collaborative community. As we remember Columbus s discovery of the Americas this weekend, so may we make time in solitude, with family, and with friends to discover something more important: God s love for us and how He is calling us to respond to that love. Have a blessed weekend. In Christ, Fr. Bennett WEEKLY OFFERTORY REPORT Thank you for your generous and faithful support. 4 ST. MARY of the HILLS CHURCH RELIGIOUS EDUCATION No Religious Ed classes this weekend due to holiday. Classes will resume next Sunday/Monday, October 14/15 at the regularly scheduled times for Grades Pre-K thru Grade 8. First Communion Preparation: All children preparing for First Communion will be attending their First Reconciliation retreat on Friday evening, October 26 with their parents. The retreat will begin at 6:30 in the lower church. Then on Sunday, October 28 those families will join together at the 10:15 Family Liturgy for a special Mass and later join us for Coffee and fellowship following the Mass. Edge: This week at Edge, the youth heard how God gave Moses and the Israelites the Ten Commandments. The commandments are steps toward true freedom and love and are relevant to us today because they speak to deep moral truths that can never be outdated or irrelevant. Christ and the Church reaffirm that living out the Ten Commandments is the best way to love God, our neighbors, and ourselves. The middle-schoolers ended the evening with the following reflection. Owe no one anything, except to love one another; for he who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law. The commandments, You shall not commit adultery, you shall not kill, you shall not steal, you shall not covet, and any other commandment, are summed up in this sentence, You shall love your neighbor as yourself. Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore, love is the fulfilling of the law. (Romans 13:8-10) What message is Jesus whispering to you? Confirmation Preparation Program Grade 10: November 4: Mass and Service to the Milton Food Pantry / December 1-2: Overnight retreat at Betania 2 Retreat Center Grade 9: Parent/Teen Orientation for Confirmation program will take place on Sunday afternoon, October 2:00 in the lower church. Contact the Music Director peter.watchorn@smhmilton.org or MILTON, MASSACHUSETTS SO THAT YOU MAY KNOW By Harry Feldmann, pastoral associate October 7th is the feast of the our Lady of the Rosary which is pre-empted this year by our Sunday celebration. Originally Pope Clement XI assigned this feast to the first Sunday of October. Hence, the month became known as the month of the Holy Rosary. Much has been written about the Rosary and its history but one area seems to be neglected, that is the Mysteries of the Rosary. Often we recite the Rosary in a group before or after Mass. There is not time to mediate on the mystery of a particular decade. Yet, Rosary recitation without meditation is not nearly as effective as with meditation. To experience the full benefits and potential of praying the rosary, meditation on the Mysteries of the Rosary is absolutely essential. There are 20 total mysteries broken out into four different groups: Joyful, Sorrowful, Luminous, and Glorious Mysteries. Most people know the mysteries. However, to meditate on them, some of us may have to open our Bibles to refresh our memory of them. There are many forms of meditation. Many of us find that putting ourselves in the original narrative of the event as living character enhances our understanding of the event perhaps as a shepherd in the mystery of the Birth of Christ. Meditation is what makes the Rosary such a powerful devotion. With meditation, we add substance to our prayers and better align ourselves to a Higher Power. The opening prayer for the Mass of this feast reminds us of the Mysteries of the Rosary: Lord, fill our hearts with Your love, and as You revealed to us by an angel the coming of Your Son as man so lead us through His suffering and death to the glory of His resurrection, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen Prayer to St. Michael Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle, be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him we humbly pray; and do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God, cast into Hell Satan and all evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls.

5 27th SUNDAY in ORDINARY TIME OCTOBER 7, 2018 Building Community through Service The Parish thanks the O Brien Family for hosting Fellowship on Sunday 9/23. The family hosting Fellowship is responsible for serving the community: plating the donated food, making coffee and for clean-up.
