THE INEXPRESSIBLE MYSTERY The God of the universe is mysterious. Science has not been able to solve the mystery of how the universe came into being or explain exactly what continues to give it creative energy and masterful design. No religion asserts that it has found words to name fully the ineffable mystery of God, for no matter what name we use, God always transcends our limited ability to understand. God is a mystery to be believed, not known. And yet, we Christians believe that our name for God best expresses that inexpressible mystery: God is the Most Holy Trinity of three persons united in a communion of love, pouring forth that creative, saving, sanctifying love into the world. ALL NIGHT VIGIL FOR PRIESTS FRIDAY, JUNE 23, 2017 For the last 26 years, on the feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, St. Dominic Parish has held an all-night vigil of prayer for the priests of our diocese. It begins with 7 pm Mass on Friday and continues with all night adoration until benediction at 7:45 am, followed by 8 am Mass. Everyone is invited to come and thank God for the gift of our priests. Confirmation Letter to the Pastor is due June 4th. Feed My Starving Children service project is scheduled for Saturday, August 26th from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at their facilities in Aurora. Now that our classes are over for the school year it's time to start thinking about next year. I asked the RF students in grades 1-5 to write to the children who will be entering their grade next year. I'll be sharing some of these here in the bulletin this summer hoping to: get some adults interested in sharing and growing their own faith as catechists; and show everyone that learning about "church stuff" can be FUN! CLOW Shepherds needed If you would be interested in joining the CLOW team for next year, please contact Liz Jesse Wagner. High school age volunteers are welcomed to help! Plug young adults into existing committees, parish council, and leadership roles in the Church. As part of this role, allow us to first present new ideas, and support our new ideas with appropriate volunteers. With prayerful consideration, allow these new ideas to edit some of the parish's long-lived programs or traditions. Be willing to create new committees and new positions that address this new culture. Does the parish have a graphic designer, a social media committee, an online minister, a weekly digital newsletter, a videographer, an app, a blogger, or an adult minister who organizes small groups? Young adults are looking for community small groups, weekly fellowship and food after Mass, and monthly parish-wide social events and service opportunities. We prefer discussions over presentations. As Catholic young adults, we re already overloaded with media and information we re thirsting for conversations with fellow Catholics. BAPTISM OF INFANTS Baptisms are usually celebrated on the first and third Sundays of each month (except during Lent) at 11:30 AM. A Baptism Preparation Class must be attended if you are planning your first child s baptism or if three years have passed since your last child was baptized. Call the Parish Office to register and to check whether adjustments have been made to the schedule. MARRIAGE Marriage arrangements must be made at least six months in advance by contacting the Parish Office to set the date and reserve the church. Reserve the church before you reserve the reception hall. HOLY ORDERS: Are you thinking of becoming a priest or religious? Talk with Fr. Bob or Fr. Burke Masters at frburke23@aol.com. RECONCILIATION Available Saturdays from 4:00-4:30 pm (except Holy Saturday), or by appointment with Fr. Bob. Fortunately, God has revealed himself as the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and made it possible to enter into a relationship with him. Through Baptism we were given a share in the divine life of the Trinity, and are called to live in greater love with God and one another each day.
