All rights reserved. Go Green! The Green Team Rocks! On December 1, in the cold, chilly rain, the mighty Green Team sponsored the Electronic Recycling Event and Winter Apparel Collection. Thanks to all who participated. We managed to fill the truck that eworks provided and fill a conversion van with coats (82), hats (51), gloves (55) and scares (50). Donations to the Green Team will help with Green Items for CTS, such as LED lights for the parking lot, rain barrel and an automatic shut-off faucet for the church restrooms. 3 The Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph Respect for All Life FOR THE LOVE OF GOD Today we are reminded of the Holy Family and the role of family in our lives. If you have children, you know that their upbringing is a huge responsibility, involving hard work, anxiety, and distress as well as moments of joy. You understand Mary and Joseph and the frantic search, as well as the mixture of immense relief and annoyance when they found Jesus. Maybe your own family is not that ideal family, but is somehow divided. Healing hurts begins in love. Perhaps one can bridge the distances with more contact, disagreements by sincere attempts to reconcile, and divorce for all its pains and griefs by learning to love again. The early Christians' agape, translated as charity in scripture, expresses a love greater than family love or sexual love; it is the love that God has for us and wants us to share. If we each become aware that God loves us as beloved children we can spread that love to the unloved in words, deeds, and attitude. Don t wait, start now! Copyright 2009, World Library Publications. All life has inestimable value even the weakest and most vulnerable, the sick, the old, the unborn and the poor, are masterpieces of God s creation, made in his own image, destined to live forever, and deserving of the utmost reverence and respect. Abraham Lincoln Page 3 Aunt Mary s Storybook Project Companions Journeying Together Innovative services for incarcerated Aunt Mary s Storybook Project is a program that takes children s books to jails and prisons. The detainees are then allowed to pick out a book for their child/children. A recording is then made of the parent reading the book to the child, and the book and recording are sent to the child. They need children s books from babies to teens. The books should be new or very gently used with no markings. Culturally diverse and bilingual books are most welcome. Cash donations for books are also welcome. The program helps keep parents connected to their children while they are incarcerated. It also encourages the children to read, learn and grow. It is a win-win ministry. CTS Parishioner Elena H has volunteered for many years and found it very rewarding. Aunt Mary s Storybook Project is part of the ministry of Companions Journeying Together which is a jail/prison ministry and so much more. It is, perhaps, easy to see the holiness in the Holy Family and not in our own. But holy we are, too. We are holy because of God s loving-kindness and God living among us. Pope Francis says this clearly in Gaudete et Exsultate on the call to holiness in today s world. Let us look to the saint next door. Let us also be the saint next door. God, in creation, makes us holy. We are called to remain in holiness. Though we need help from God and from others, it is possible for each one of us. Who can I name as a saint next door? What do they do and say, not do and say, to make this so? What one holy and mercy work will I do in this Christmas season? What will I do and say to bring holiness to this sometimes-messy world? Sacramental Information RITES OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION Adults interested in learning more about the Catholic Faith, the celebration of Baptism, Eucharist and/or Confirmation are invited to contact the parish office. BAPTISM OF INFANTS Baptisms are usually celebrated on the first and third Sundays of each month (except during Lent) at 11:30 AM. A Baptism Preparation Class must be attended if you are planning your first child s baptism or if three years have passed since your last child was baptized. Call the Parish Office to register and to check whether adjustments have been made to the schedule. MARRIAGE Marriage arrangements must be made at least six months in advance by contacting the Parish Office to set the date and reserve the church. Reserve the church before you reserve the reception hall. HOLY ORDERS: Are you thinking of becoming a priest or religious? Talk with Fr. Bob or Fr. Steven Borello at vocations@dioceseofjoliet.org.
