1 ST. JAMES THE APOSTLE AND OUR LADY OF THE LAKE/MOUNT CARMEL IS A ROMAN CATHOLIC PARISH WITH THE EUCHARIST AS THE CENTER OF ITS LIFE. OUR MISSION, AS DISCIPLES OF JESUS CHRIST, IS TO BUILD UP THE KINGDOM OF GOD BY LEADING, NOURISHING AND SERVING THE COMMUNITY IN WORD AND SACRAMENT. From the Desk of Msgr. Martin April 10, 2016 Be all that you can be! Find your future in Heaven! The Feast of Easter is a festival of joy and hope, as we rejoice in the victory of Jesus over death and as a result over our own. Each Easter is an overture to a personal joyous party, our final reunion with Christ after our death. But perhaps a story might give us a better insight into what Easter means. One night an old Irish woman sat alone in her little cottage. In the cupboard was a jug of good Irish whiskey, saved, she always said for a wake or a weddin. This night she took down the jug and poured herself a little glass full saying to herself, well tonight s nothin special but I feel the need of a wee bit o warmth. As she sipped her whiskey she remembered the good times and the hard years, the parties, the wakes and the countless blessings of her long life. She put some more peat on the fire and began to pray. Ah, if only the men o heaven could be here tonight in me little cottage having a wee drink with me. Oh, twould be wonderful indeed. And I wouldn t be so lonely on this chilly night. Suddenly her prayer was answered, for there they stood in the cottage. Ah, welcome to you, Peter and John, Andrew and Matthew, and all the rest of ya. It s an honor to have you in my home, tellin stories and havin a good time. And Jesus, havin you here, hearin you laugh with the men o heaven. Now if we could only have the three holy Mary s here too. Her prayer was answered straightaway for there they were. Welcome Mary, gentle mother of Jesus, and you Aunt Mary, mother of James and John, and even Mary Magdalene. Lord, what a party this is. But if I might be askin a small favor; I know the cottage is small but could some of the other saints come as well? Through the door came St. Bridget, St. Patrick and lots of others. She recognized most of them from her old dog-eared holy cards and from statues in the parish church. Come in, come in, one and all. Ah tis wonderful that you could come to my party. Here, have some refreshment. And the songs, stories and laughter overflowed the little cottage as the old woman prayed. Oh Lord, what a grand party this is. Even the fine and the mighty in their big houses surely never had such a party as the one I m havin tonight. Tis the best of me whole life, oh I wish I had enough so that the party could go on and on. And with that, Jesus leaned over and whispered in her ear, ah, Mary my dear, why should it end? The next morning, as was her custom, Kate O Reilly stopped by the widow s little cottage to check in on her. As she opened the door with a cheery good morning she found the old widow in her chair, asleep in the arms of death. Besides her on the table was an empty jug of whiskey, and on her face, now white with the kiss of death, was a smile as wide as the Shannon River. There is a party like that awaiting all of us because of Easter. We thank God that we are invited. Readings for the Third Sunday of Easter First Reading: Acts 5:27-32, 40b-41: The high priest chastised Peter and the other apostles for continuing to preach when they had been ordered to stop. Peter replied he would rather obey God than men. Second Reading: Revelation 5:11-14: John had a vision of many angels and all the living creatures of the world gathered around a throne. The angels cried out that the slain Lamb was worthy of receiving power, glory and praise. Gospel: John 21:1-19: Jesus appeared to the disciples for the third time since his resurrection while they were fishing. They hadn't caught anything, and then Jesus advised them to cast their net from the other side of the boat..

5 From the Parish Nurse Asthma How does the airway work? Sacrificial Giving: Sacrifice to Serve During this Jubilee Year of Mercy, we are called to help one another and be merciful. "Never measure your generosity by what you give, but rather by what you have left." Bishop Fulton J. Sheen The airways are tubes that carry air in and out of your lungs. People with asthma have inflamed or swollen airways. This inflammation makes the airway very sensitive. The airway will react strongly to certain triggers. These triggers vary from person to person and cause the airways to narrow and tighten allowing less air to flow in and out of the lungs. The swelling can progress and make the airways even narrower. Please fill-out and return your pledge envelope. Remember you have three months in which to pay your pledge. If you prefer you may Make an online gift today at Goal As of 4/01 Pledges $132,000 $ 59,352 Paid to date $ 40,346 Number of Gifts 233 Average Gift $ ST.
