1 Announcements May 30 & 31, 2009 On the fiftieth day of Easter we celebrate the Spirit, through whom and in whom the people of God are created and re-created. Pentecost is sometimes called the church's birthday, but might more appropriately be called its baptism day, since the gift of the Spirit is the fullness of baptism. Ezekiel's vision shows the Spirit resurrecting and re-creating not just individuals but a whole people. Romans makes it clear that God is in the process of re-creating the entire cosmos; yet the Spirit is also at work in the most intimate and personal way, praying in us "with sighs too deep for words" when we do not know how to pray. May 31 is also the Festival of Visit of Mary to Elizabeth, marking the occasion when Mary, pregnant with Jesus, visited her cousin Elizabeth who was herself pregnant with John. Elizabeth pronounced Mary "blessed among women," and Mary responded with the song called the Magnificat. TRINITY LUTHERAN CHURCH 508 Center Street Ashland, Ohio Phone trinity@trinityashland.org

Thank you for your support of this ministry. LUTHER CLUB: Hey, Luther Clubber s Don t forget that we meet this coming Thursday, June 4 th at 12:00 Noon. It s JUNE, already?----yep! We ve got Mark Rafeld coming from the Office of Homeland Security to talk about Emergency Preparedness for Seniors. It should be interesting. As usual we will look forward to the wonderful spread put on by our kitchen crew. The menu is chicken salad croissants, salad, dessert and beverage. Please call in your reservations ( ) by Tuesday, June 2. Hope to see you! SEND A CHILD TO BIBLE SCHOOL! We re watching our budget very carefully this year, but Bible School is still one of our most expensive Children s Ministries opportunities we provide at Trinity. We want to keep the quality, cut the fluff and make it something that children will take with them for many years to come. Would you be willing to sponsor a VBS child for $10? This sponsorship will cover the hands-on materials that each child gets to take home all week. If this is something you would consider, please contact Dawn Forbes at for more information. SUMMER COLLEGE AGE CLASS: Pastor Jeff will leading a college aged (roughly 18-23) Sunday School class this summer. We will be using a N.Y. Times Best-selling book written by the son TV s Dr. Phil Jay McGraw. It s called: Life Strategies For Teens. Although it says it s for TEENS, it s really for young 3 adults. It lays out 10 life-changing life LAWS that Dr. Phil discovered over the years and taught to his son. His SON wrote the book so that his age group (He wrote it when he was Twenty) could relate to it. The class will run each Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m. in the South Patio Room below Jack s Place. The Young Adult Ministry will buy the $15 book for all participants who commit to come to 8 of the 11 sessions which will run from June 7 thru August 16. We will then read a chapter a week and apply biblical stories and principles to the 10 Life Laws. It should make for a stimulating time! If interested, call Pastor Jeff at or him at pj@trinityashland.org. He needs to know by June 1 (Monday) so he can order the books in time for our first class! A WORSHIP ENCOUNTER for the entire community will be hosted by First English Lutheran Church on Sunday, June 14 at 7 p.m. This exciting community worship encounter will be led by Andrew Ironside from Hillsong Church in Sydney, Australia and the Catalyst worship band from Cleveland, Ohio. First English is located at 53 Park Avenue West, Mansfield. Allow God to transform you as you Encounter Him together in this awesome worship experience. SERMONS ON THE WEB: You are now able to listen to sermons from our Sanctuary worship services. Check out our new website at On the top right column is a box marked Hear Our Sermons. Click on it and a list of available sermons appear. You may listen to them at your computer or download them to your mp3 device and listen as you drive, meditate or jog down the street. Take the word of God with you in your daily walk!

8 COMMENCEMENT by Greg Asimakoupoulos The time has come to step out, Donning cap and gown down the aisle (An aisle I ll not soon forget). For me the thrill still lingers of the day My fingers securely held the diploma held out to me. A band marked time with Pomp and Circumstance, And the procession began while my parents applauded with pride. And for you, my friends, the same awaits. A robe of achievement (capping years of classes). A sheepskin of survival. A handshake. A smile. A party. Some gifts. A gift from God to you. Some call it graduation, but you will find it s more. More than an ending, this day s a beginning, When you commence toward what s in store for you. You see, the time has come to step out And embrace a future God has planned. New classes. New challenges. New friends with which to meet them. New ways to witness to your faith beyond your parents shadow. New trails from which to choose. So step out in full stride. Commence the walk. And don t forget...god wants to walk with you. 8
