Malachi s prophesy heralds the coming of John the Baptist and our Lord Jesus. Gabriel announces the coming of Jesus in a very special way to his mother Mary. Finally all the baptized are called to participate in the sharing of the gospel. In so doing we prepare the way for the coming of the Lord and assist all flesh in capturing a vision of the salvation of God. 2 WELCOME TO TRINITY! We are glad you are here at one of our FOUR WORSHIP SERVICES this weekend, each centered around the same scriptures but with four different musical styles. THIS BULLETIN contains information for the two 10:45 a.m. Sunday services, one a festive setting in the sanctuary and the other a praise worship in Jack s Place, our new fellowship hall. A SEPARATE BULLETIN lists the 6:30 p.m. Saturday night folk service and the 8:30 a.m. traditional service. We invite you to turn to pages 10 & 11 in this bulletin for HELPFUL INFORMATION for visitors and members alike, such as restrooms, child care and service participants. WE WELCOME our Music Makers to worship this week, directed by Ron Marenchin. The children age 4 thru Grade 1 will share some of the songs they have been learning this fall. SACRAMENT OF HOLY BAPTISM - Kimberly Ann Sisson LIGHTING OF THE ADVENT WREATH - Andy and Diane Yeaste, Sarah, Jack PRAYER CARDS are in the chair pockets. You may fill them out at the announcement time and a host will collect them if you raise them up. They will be used at the time of the prayers. IF YOU DESIRE PRIVATE, INDIVIDUAL PRAYER for yourself or on behalf of a loved one, inform a host. You will be paired with a prayer leader following the service for prayer and the laying on of hands. IF YOU ARE A FIRST-TIME GUEST TO TRINITY, please pick up a coffee mug as our welcome gift to you. We are grateful for your presence and pray that you will sense both God s presence and leading as the result of worshiping with us. CHILDREN S WELCOME PACKETS are available at the Host Station for use during the service. If your child should become restless, there is seating available to the rear of the Worship Center at Jack s Place. Staffed child care is also available in the Nursery area. 2

3 SUNDAY MORNING 10:45 WORSHIP December 6, Second Sunday of Advent In the Sanctuary This BULLETIN contains the worship order and the red Evangelical Lutheran Worship in the pew racks contains liturgy in the front and hymns, listed in bold numbers, in the back. PAGES provide interesting background information on the pattern of our worship. LARGE PRINT BULLETINS of this service are available from the ushers. Our Advent services center around three hymns found in the Gospel of Luke. Today s worship features the Song of Mary, titled The Magnificat GATHERING The Holy Spirit calls us together as the people of God. GATHERING MUSIC Come, Thou Almighty King - arr. Gordon Young Mark Koehler, organ WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS *GATHERING SONG *Please stand, as able. Hark, the Glad Sound Please turn and face the processional cross in the center aisle as it passes. 1. Hark the glad sound! The Savior comes, the Savior promised long; Let ev ry heart prepare a throne and ev ry voice a song. 2. Come, magnify his holy name, the God of Abraham; For as a sacrifice for sin, the Lord provides the Lamb. 3. The mighty crushed, the proud brought low, the humble lifted up; The hungry by his Body fed, his Blood, their precious cup. 4. All glory to the Father give, with glory to the Son, And glory to the Spirit sing, th eternal Three in One. *GREETING, CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS +The sign of the cross may be made by all in remembrance of their Baptism. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. And also with you. 3

4 *CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION O God, we love Mary s melody of remembrance - Recalling God s gracious covenant promises to Abraham and his seed forever. Her voice is joyful as she remembers how magnificent God is to her; Our voices also express our wonder at his goodness. God will lift her up, and she is overwhelmed with joy. We join her in her words of praise: My Soul now magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has looked on the humble estate of his servant. For behold, from now on all generations will call me blessed; For he who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name. Mary was aware of her humble estate. She knew she was unworthy of the Lord s gift to her. Our awareness is no different. We remember our humble estate. In our day, we often use these words to express our unworthiness: Almighty God, we confess to you all of the sins by which we have offended you. We deserve to suffer for our sins, both now and in eternity. We are sorry for our sins. We pray that you will look on us in mercy and forgive us for the sake of Jesus my Savior, who suffered the punishment for our sins when he died on the cross. Mary remembered the mercy of the God for Abraham and for his seed forever. We too remember the tender mercy of our God as his covenant people. So with confidence I announce unto you that your sins are forgiven, in the name of the Father and of the + Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen With Mary we remember and say: He has helped his servant Israel in remembrance of his mercy, as he spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to his offspring forever. Please be seated 4

He has shown strength with his arm; he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts; he has brought down the mighty from their thrones and exalted those of humble estate; he has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent away empty. 5

6 LEADER: (as two candles are lit) We praise you God for these days of Advent, so that our hearts, our lives and our community are ready to receive Jesus Christ, as child, Savior and Our King. Let us in this Advent time offer repentance in our lives, rouse us from sleep, that we may be ready to greet our Lord care for the less fortunate and prayers for those in need in any way. Grant this through Christ our Lord, whose coming is certain and whose day draws near. Amen Cantor sings Stanza 2, then All repeat Refrain 2. On Sundays when we do not celebrate the Sacrament of Communion, we thank God for the gift of the Word which we have received. The prayers conclude either: For your Word of life, O God, we give you thanks and praise. *LORD S PRAYER or:...be honor and glory forever.
