1 Announcements February 19 & 20, 2011 ( In today's first reading we hear, "You shall be holy, for I the Lord your God am holy." Yet we know we cannot achieve perfection. Our attempts to love neighbors and even our enemies fall short of what God desires for us. Yet in Jesus we see one who loved even those who persecuted and killed him. We are made holy in baptism, and forgiven at the table of God's mercy. As a people made holy by God, we go in peace to love as we have been loved. 4 PSALMS AND PALMS, THE MUSIC OF LENT. We invite persons who enjoy singing but who cannot commit to singing year-round to join the 10:45 Choir for the season of Lent. There are a number of special anthems coming up based on the Psalms and on Palm Sunday and you are invited to join the fun. Just meet in the choir loft at 7:15 on Wednesday evenings for 90 minutes or call Ron Marenchin at the church for more information. Hope to see you there!..upcoming EVENTS.. Our upcoming blood drive on Monday, February 28, has now been designated an official Red Cross Recovery 2011 drive! With this latest round of severe winter storms, the American Red Cross has been unable to collect blood in many parts of the country. This has forced the cancellation of more than 750 blood drives and over 28,000 blood scheduled blood donations since January 1. As a result, in this period blood collections are the lowest the Red Cross has seen in a decade. The Red Cross hosts nearly 700 blood drives a day. Just a few more people giving at each drive could help recover the needed blood in only a few weeks. We have offered to help by trying to collect additional units of blood during our upcoming drive on February 28, 11:30 am to 4:00 pm, in Jack s Place. Please help patients in need by giving blood now to help the blood supply recover. WEEKDAY CHURCH SCHOOL BEGINS ITS SPRING SESSION on Tuesday, March 1 from 9-11 a.m. This class for children ages 3-6 meets in Assembly Rooms A & B and runs for 4 four consecutive Tuesdays, ending March 22. Each week we will focus on a special Bible story and enjoy craft time, music and snacks while we learn the importance of God s work in our lives. There is a one-time fee of $5 per family that covers all four weeks. This is a perfect opportunity for small children to get the feel of a preschool environment, meet new friends, and most importantly, an opportunity to learn more about the love of Jesus in their lives. You may register your child any time after February 14 by calling the church office at or by arriving a little early on the first Tuesday. We hope to see you there! THE FREEDOM TRIO, live in concert, presented by John Rulapaugh (of the Dove Brothers) and Gosh Garner (of the Florida Boys), Friday, March 4, at 7:00 pm at First Lutheran Church, 33 Broadway Street, Shelby. Free admission (love offering will be taken). Contact flcworship@embarqmail.com or FAMILY BOWLING PARTY Once again it is time to gather for that yearly Rite-Of-Passage Ye Olde Annual Family Bowling Party at Luray Lanes. The date has been set for Sunday, March 6, from 2:30 to 5:00 pm. As in the past, the cost will be $2.50 per game per person with free shoes. That s a dollar off per game. In addition, the Young Adult & Family Ministry will provide free pizza & pop for an early supper. That means that a family of four can bowl 2 games & eat for about $20. Not bad! We ve had a great turnout of 80 + for this event the last few years Young families, grandparents with grandkids, young adults Come join us!! LENTEN HOME GROUPS begin the week of March 7 and go for 5-6 weeks. The purpose is to have fun with friends in the faith, to grow

5 closer to God and to go deeper in the faith. Most groups (5 to 12 persons) will use the book, The Lord s Prayer: Praying with Power by John Ortberg. The Lord s Prayer is much more than a collection of words to be recited from memory. It is a Jesus-given springboard to launch us into the refreshing waters of God s wisdom and strength. When we learn to pray with Jesus, we become like him. Would you like to be involved? Have an enjoyable time, (for about an hour once a week) learn and grow? If so, please call or Pam or call one of the persons listed whose group you would enjoy being in: Juan and Hazel Acuna, Eva Beard, Cheryl Benway, Debbie Dull and Karen Sauber, Larry and Norma Franks, Ray and Ann Jacobs, Jessica Murawski, Stacy Prochazka, and Katie Smeltzer. ASH WEDNESDAY COMMUNION SER- VICE on March 9, at 7:30 p.m. Lent is a time for us to examine our faith journeys and to recommit our lives to the Lord. The imposition of ashes, a reminder of human mortality and of cleansing, will be offered as part of the service. Pastor Messner will preach. The Choir, the Preschool Choir, Luther Bells and other musicians will provide special music. Child care for ages five years and under will be available. THE TRINITY TRAVELERS are planning trips for you that are exciting, fun, affordable and comfortable for all ages. Mark your calendars for Thursday, March 31, for the first of four trips that we have planned for this year. We wanted to give you a change of scenery for our first dinner/show so we are headed to North Royalton to Carrie Cerino's Restorante, family owned and operated since The production is an upbeat, fast-paced, high energy show from Branson, MO capturing the hits of the 60's. Among the dozens of songs sung live you will visit the music of the Beatles, the Supremes, the Temptations, Frankie Valli, and many, many more. The cast also relives the dance crazes of the Twist, the Mashed Potato and the Pony in addition to comedy skits, historical video segments, and a special tribute to Vietnam Veterans. Total cost for the trip is $58 per person. We can board the bus at 9:45 am and promptly leave Trinity parking lot at 10:15 am or earlier if all those signed up are boarded. Lunch will be at 12 noon and the performance at 1:30 p.m. Arrival time back at the church is approximately 5:30 pm. The sign-up sheet is posted on the Trinity Traveler bulletin board between the library and Rooms A & B. Deadline to sign up is March 14, with payment due at the time of sign up. We are also working on a trip in June (possibly dinner on the lake or river boat), a third trip in September, and a final trip on November 16 to Olgebay Park. We hope these trips will pique your interest enough so you will be enthusiastic about joining us again. Please feel free to invite a friend or friends. The sign -up sheets will be posted on the bulletin board next to rooms A & B. As difficult and unsure as times were in 2010, you stayed faithful traveling with us and hopefully you will join us again in this new year. Please contact one of the committee members if you have any questions or concerns. Our contact information can be obtained through the church office. Watch the bulletin and newsletter for the details regarding cost, departure, and return home times. - The Trinity Travelers Committee 5 MOWANA CAMPERSHIPS AVAILABLE: It has been quite a winter, but we know spring and summer are going to come and it's not too soon to be thinking about summer camp at Camp Mowana.
