INTELLIGENT DESIGN 12 TH AUGUST, 2:00PM - 4:00PM THIS WEEKEND Paul Giem, visiting professor from Loma Linda University, and an expert in the carbon dating of fossils, is presenting a thought provoking, public seminar, showing the scientific evidence for Design, and what the carbon dating of fossils actually tells us. His topics are: Detecting Design - There is controversy over whether design can be detected. This presentation will demonstrate that you can detect design personally, with an extremely high level of confidence. It will explore how design detec- Page 4 Page 5

Carbon-14 in Fossils, and the Missing Presentation - A presentation was made to disappear from the schedule of the American Geophysical Union/ Asia Oceania Geosciences Society. We discuss the reasons why the presentation was made to disappear, and the evidence for carbon-14 in fossil carbon along with the implications of that carbon-14. 5 IT s WORTH A THOUGHT Maewyn Succat died on March 17, (the funeral was held around 1550 years ago). He also had an unusual life. At 16 he was kidnapped and taken to Ireland. For the next six years he lived as a cattle and swine herder putting up with very harsh conditions. During this terrible time of his life young Maewyn accepted God as a part of his life and when he finally escaped and returned home he joined a church whose voice in history has almost been lost. The Celtic church practiced baptism by immersion, kept the Sabbath as holy, followed God s health laws and, in summary, gave their allegiance to Christ, and His word - the Bible, rather than Church councils. Maewyn soon became a leader in this church and he worked hard against a creeping paganism that was beginning to enter the Christian church. In his late 20s Maewyn began to think of Ireland where he had been held captive and believed that God was calling him to go back and share the good news with them. Back in Ireland, Maewyn s success was nothing short of miraculous. Establishing over 350 churches and adding more than 120,000 people to the list of believers Despite serious opposition from even the Queen herself the Celtic church protested against the creeping paganism that was entering Christianity. Because of the independent spirit and the close attention to the scriptures, the government-backed church was constantly threatening and hostile towards the Celtic people. Over the hundreds of years that followed the tiny island was besieged until if finally accepted halftruths and the Celtic chuch was overthrown. Today, more well-known as St Patrick, Maewyn Succat is an icon known around the world by millions, sadly his powerful work has been distorted, but his own writings still tell the true story of how Ireland prospered for centuries as it obeyed God s commandments. So the real Patrick amazingly not Irish, not Catholic and not swayed by the opinions of others. This independent thinking reminds us of Peter and the other followers of Jesus. On one occasion when questioned by the leaders of the day why they believed and acted as they did, they answered, We ought to obey God rather than men. Acts 5:29 It s worth a thought.
