Meets the required training standard for all persons in leadership and or child related roles. Open to all local churches in the area 2018 CHEP COURSE AT VICTORIAN CONFERENCE We are glad to announce that the Certificate 4 CHEP Training Course is back this year to the Victorian Conference and will be starting on the 22nd of April Please be sure to share this with your church members who may be interested to learn more about our Adventist Health Philosophy and being equipped to present a Christian whole-person ministry to their communities in a relevant and credible manner. This course is an accredited Certificate IV program that will teach you everything you need to know about planning and conducting vegetarian cooking and nutrition programs for your community. The training course will be conducted by Mrs. Sibillla Johnson, B.Sc. and it will be 1 Sunday a month at the Victorian Conference Office (starting 22nd of April, 2018) and the course fee is $ Registration is now open. Few weeks ago I shared with you the first half of a list of items that help people to raise confident kids and well-balanced young people. The list compiled by Michael Grose, author and keynote speaker on parenting, has two broad areas: the personal items and the external items that assist a young person in their development. Last week s 12 Personal Characteristics covered values, social smarts and self-esteem and learning, and this week I ll share with you the External Characteristics Each of these items helps to build young people into stable well-balanced adults who can thrive and flourish. External characteristics Strong Family 1. Role Models: Parents and others model responsible, caring and pro-social behaviours. 2. Contribution: Children are able to contribute positively to their family by helping and being involved in family decision-making. 3. Discipline: Family has clear boundaries and consequences for misbehaviour. Consistency, routines and a sense of fairness underpin family discipline. 4. Communication: Members of family are able to communicate openly with each other. There are rituals, traditions, and processes in place that support communication. 5. Rituals and traditions: A strong sense of a family identity is fostered through rituals, traditions and celebrations. Community 6. Child-friendly neighbourhood: Children live in safe and supportive neighbourhoods with other adults who care for and look out for them. 7. Positive peers: Children have access to at least one positive peer group to interact with. Activities 8. Free Play: Children have opportunities for plenty of play on their own, with siblings and other children. 9. Out of school activities: Children are involved in at least one sporting, cultural or artistic activity outside of school or home. Well that s it. From the cutting edge chemistry of free radicles to Great Britain s largest ever investment in scientific research and on to excavations of ancient ruins in Jordan, each episode unpacks the fascinating discoveries, thinking and lives of scientists who have made incredible discoveries. We will watch an episode that is yet to be released and will then have the opportunity to discuss the film, the story behind it and the science with the producer, who is also a PhD scientist. Dr. Tim Standish is senior scientist at the Geoscience Research Institute, and adjunct faculty member at Loma Linda University, where he teaches molecular genetics. BIBLE WORKER ROLE BUNDOORA SDA CHURCH PLANT Our vibrant new team is looking for a Bible worker to engage and connect with students at La Trobe University and the community. You will receive hands-on training and mentoring in how to give Bible studies and run ground-breaking initiatives on campus through our student club called Advent Health and in the community while learning all the elements needed in church planting.
