U.S. Postage Paid FAITH Evangelical Presbyterian Church New Years is a time in which a lot of people make resolutions and goals and hope that next year is going to bring about some change from last year. This is a great time to not only make resolutions about physical health but also for our spiritual health. We all have areas in which we can grow in our relationship with Christ. I have one goal already in mind for 2018 in the area of scripture memorization that I look forward to pursuing and growing in my relationship with Christ in, and there will probably be others that come up as I think more about the New Year. Have you been intentional yet about what you would like 2019 to bring? Growth in Christ likeness doesn t magically happen; it is something that needs to be pursued, whether through spiritual disciplines or other means. We talked about this as a church session as well, in particular, in the area of reading the Bible. The Bible is the foundation of our faith and relationship with Christ. Everything we say, do and believe stems from the authority of God s word. Yet in our culture it seems as though Biblical literacy and personal commitment to the Word is waning, even in churches. I was at a conference in December in which a pastor spoke for about 3 hours on the importance of Christians being in the Word of God. He was very bold in his proclamation to seek the Lord through His Word. During his message he asked everyone who had not read the entire Bible to stand and he led them through a time of prayer and commitment to prioritizing the Word of God. It was very powerful, and also insightful as close to half of the people who had traveled to the conference had not read the entirety of scripture in their lives. So we (the session) want to help us all commit to the Word of God together by reading the Bible together. I hope you will be willing to commit to reading the entire New Testament with us during 2019, it will be about 5 chapters a week which I believe is very achievable even for those who do not read very much. Hiding scripture in our hearts is something that will never come back void, and I trust that you will join us in this commitment. I hope you have not read this as condemning but as an encouragement. God wants you to grow in your relationship with Him. God wants to bring you into a deeper understanding of who He is and His love for you. God desires you to have a more intimate experience with Him. God desires all of these things for you and the most sure fire way to grow in these things is to commit to His word. So find a favorite chair or quiet place, and carve out a specific time, preferable daily, to read His Word. 2 OCC Shoeboxes Session News teachers are needed. Installation of new Elders / Deacons Jan. 13 th. This month's session meeting will be Tuesday, January 15 th at 6:00 pm. We will have a congregational annual meeting January 20 th. Again, thank you for your generous donations to Operation Christmas Child. We have been informed that the gift filled boxes from Wisconsin were sent to processing centers in Minneapolis, and then flown to their destined countries. This year, the boxes we filled are being sent to Belize, Botswana, Jamaica, Chile, Guyana, South Africa, Swaziland, Suriname, Lesotho, Uruguay, Mongolia, Gabon, Niger and hard to reach areas. Praise God for this wonderful mission that reached kids all over the world! ANNUAL REPORTS DUE TO GAIL BY JANUARY 6! 3 Missions For 2018 I know, it's 2019! Happy New Year! I just want to recap some of the missions we supported in 2018 and let you know there are opportunities for you to personally help them. Soon we will pick missions for I hope and pray that we will continue to support these great people. Camp Daniel is holding a special fund drive called 20/20 to get their Camp done, so it will be able to be used year round for all camping and meeting needs in the area. This means they would not need to rent space at Lake Helen Camp, which isn't as disability-friendly as needed. As a church, we have given them $1,100 this year. Individually you can always send them a personal check. They would also appreciate your volunteering on workdays and as counselors during camp. WRVM is a great radio station that plays great Christian music. If you haven't listened lately, they are playing more modern worship and praise music. They also have great teaching programs. They serve most of Wisconsin and the UP, plus they are on the internet. The church gave them $1,000. Abundant Life Mission in Menominee, MI helps the homeless with safe sleeping areas and food and necessities. They always need cleaning supplies and toilet paper, paper towels, real towels, etc. The church gave them $700. Lake Lundgren is a camp here in Marinette County that always needs campers and volunteers. It provides camping experiences for young and old alike. The church gave them $600. Crivitz Food Pantry always needs food, hygiene items and volunteers. They are now at a new location on Highway 141. The church gave them $1,100. The Hub is a part of our church, but is also a mission to the Youth of the community. Yay! The house is paid off, but they can always use donations of pizza, donuts, and other goodies. The church gave them $1,000. These are a few of the local missions and how the church has helped them Outside of donations that you give to church, do YOU give to any Missions?? There are so many great organizations to give your time, money and talents to. Next month, I'll tell you about our World outreach Missions. I hope your hear is full with desire to help other people here in Crivitz and also around the world. We are so blessed, we need to share. Jesus said: Feed my sheep! That's what missions does!
