2 Dear Parishioners, PASTORAL LEADER S NOTES Last weekend I put this picture of downtown Winter Garden, FL, in the bulletin and told you I d be there at my brother s home for our annual family gathering. Here s a picture of my brother, Tom, and I at that same corner in Winter Garden. (Yes, we really had our picture taken there after Mass on Sunday and we didn t Photoshop it in!!!) We had a great family week together: enjoying the beauty of the area with palm trees and blooming flowers and plants everywhere observing the wildlife at Lake Apopka Natural Preserve and catching sight of nine alligators and dozens of egrets and great blue herons tasting the local cuisine at the weekly Farmer s Market in Winter Garden strolling down New Smyrna beach and getting our feet wet in the Atlantic Ocean watching the Martin Luther King Day parade and the Women s March in downtown Orlando visiting with our two cousins who live in Bellevue, Fl, that we haven t seen in 30 years hiking a part of the 22 mile West Orange Trail listening to the Friday night concert in downtown Winter Garden. The days were full of fun and laughter as we shared life and love and just enjoyed being together as family. And isn t that what really matters in life? To love and be loved in return. That s what my days of vacation were all about: loving and being loved. How blessed I am! CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK 2019! Since 1974, National Catholic Schools Week is the annual celebration of Catholic education in the United States. It usually begins on the last Sunday in January which means it begins today, January 27. This is a good week for us to reflect on the value Catholic Education provides to young people and its contributions to our church and our communities. The theme for National Catholic Schools Week is: Catholic Schools: Learn. Serve. Lead. Succeed. This theme encompasses the core products and values that can be found in Catholic Schools across the country. Not only do Catholic Schools teach students to become future servant leaders, faith-filled disciples and enriched citizens in our communities, but our educators are also growing in becoming servants and leaders. We are grateful for the presence of Lourdes Academy in Oshkosh. Their mission as a Catholic School is to provide students in elementary, middle and high school for life, college and a continued relationship with God. Be sure to check out their website this week at and learn about the many opportunities our area Catholic School provides for our children. Sr. Pam

3 STEWARDSHIP The Discipleship Process leads to encountering Jesus more deeply and when this happens we become Grateful Stewards who Share, Serve, and Pray with joyful hearts. Gospel: Luke 1:1-4, 4:14-21 Filled with the Holy Spirit, Jesus states his mission; to care for the poor and those who are looked down upon AND to proclaim that the Lord is always loving! Jesus brings action to the words of the prophet Isaiah. The Word must become active and fulfilled not just letters on paper, but energy in the heart. We are called to proclaim and live out the love of God. This was the life of Jesus and the life he calls us to. Before we can live more like Jesus, we must receive God s love. The secret of happiness is to know I am loved. The love of the Father was sealed into the heart of Jesus. This love is spread by his followers, as they open their hearts to the love of God. When we receive God s love we are filled with the Holy Spirit, recognize our own gifts, and are lead to care for the poor and those who are looked down upon. How will you receive the love of God this week and intentionally share yourself with the poor and those in need? Faith Formation is looking for plastic bags that you would get groceries or items from fleet farm, menards etc. in. They will be using them for a Middle School youth project. Wednesday, February 13 Elementary students have class after school-4:30pm Coffee & Conversation begins at 6:00pm! All HS youth are invited. Join us for a cup of Kuerig-ma! High School youth will meet from 6:30-8:00pm Feeding America Fun on January 18 th. Students spent their half day off from school at Feeding America Fox Valley on Friday, January 18 th. Our mission was to repackage oranges taken from very large and very deep boxes! We also repackaged cereal. If you missed the Feeding America opportunity this time... mark your calendars for Feb. 15 th 1:00pm-4:00pm when we will be doing it again.

Your group sorted and stocked 7,000 lbs. of donated product, equaling 5,833 meals worth of food! Without your assistance, Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin would have had to spend over $1,104 of donated funds and worked 48 hours to complete the project. These donations can now be spent on purchasing more food for those in need. We hope you enjoyed your experience at Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin and we welcome you to come again.
