2 Welcome to this time of worship and prayer. ASSEMBLING IN GOD S NAME WELCOME & ANNOUNCEMENTS Welcome to those visiting today! Please fill out a Visitor Card found in the pew rack and place it in the Offering Plate. Also, everyone please pass the red fellowship pad down the pew and back again noticing those with whom you are worshiping today. Prayer Cards are in the pew racks. Please place cards in the basket in front of the pulpit during the Passing of the Peace. Our church is handicapped accessible. There is an area set aside for wheelchairs on the left front section of the theater-type seats we call the Amen Section. Thank you, Linda Rudy, for being our liturgists this morning. Today we welcome internationally acclaimed soprano Sherezade (Sherry) Panthaki. Sherry will share her beautiful voice with us during our worship service. While still in college, Sherry was a music intern at DMPC and she has always been grateful for that opportunity. She has shared her talents with us before and is anxious to once again return to her roots. If you have never heard her sing, you are in for a special treat. Her voice is at once angelic and strong. 3 P: Blessed be the Lord, our protector! L: God has broken the snare that took away our freedom. Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth. P: Blessed be God s holy name! OPENING PRAYER *HYMN #321 The Church s One Foundation *CALL TO CONFESSION The prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise them up, and anyone who has committed sins will be forgiven. Therefore confess your sins to one another and pray for one another so that you may be healed. James 5:15 16a *PRAYER OF CONFESSION (in unison) God of unity, Mark 9:38 50 we live in a world where our lives move between inclusivity and exclusivity. We often move toward the latter, trying to oust from our circles those who do not think like us, act like us, or look like us. Forgive our need to reject and to always be on the lookout for those things that make us different. Give us the eyes of our Teacher, who knows unconditional love and compassion and sees us all as one, for it is in his name that we pray. 4 *ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS My brothers and my sisters, James 5:19 20 if anyone among you wanders from the truth and is brought back by another, you should know that whoever brings back a sinner from wandering will save the sinner s soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins. Rejoice! You have been brought back by the redemption of God and forgiveness through Jesus Christ our Savior. In the bulletin you will find inserts with more information about this offering and envelopes to use for your donation to this offering. Disaster Relief You can help our brothers and sisters in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia by donating money to Presbyterian Disaster Assistance which supports the church s response to hurricanes and typhoons around the world.
