4 Acts 7:55-60 Stephen was one of the seven men chosen by the apostles to serve tables so that the apostles could be free to serve the word (Acts 6:1-6). SERMON HYMN OF THE DAY You Are the Way Hymn #758 NICENE CREED (10:00 am) We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became truly human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. 6 The Preface is a prayer which reminds us that, in Christ, we are united with all the Saints who have gone before us. We are a part of the Communion of Saints through all time and space. PREFACE It is indeed right, our duty and our joy......we praise your name and join their unending hymn: SANCTUS WORDS OF INSTITUTION...For as often as we eat of this bread and drink from this cup, we proclaim the mystery of our faith. Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again. The prayer that Jesus taught the disciples to pray found in Matthew 6:9-13 and Luke 11:2-4. LORD'S PRAYER Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Bethany has participated in a co-ed adult Sunday afternoon church softball league for the past couple of years and we would like to invite anyone 15 years or older to join in the fun. 12 Celebration of Holy Baptism L: We gather at these living waters. Throughout history, God s saving action toward God s people has taken place through water. Let us pray: Most Holy God, you created the seas, rivers, and lakes; you saved Noah and his family from the floods; you led the Israelites through the Red Sea and quenched their thirst with water flowing from a rock. Through the waters of the Jordan River, you proclaimed Jesus your own beloved son and so through these waters of baptism, you proclaim that we, too, are your own beloved children, now and forever. Amen. L: Parents, do you wish Harry to be baptized into the promises of God? R: I do. We make promises and assume responsibilities at baptism. God promises us unconditional love and life forever, and we know that our journey of faith encompasses certain promises so that our lives reflect this love. Parents, do you promise to: live with him among God s faithful people, bring him to the Lord s table, teach him the Lord s Prayer, the Creed, and the Ten Commandments, place the holy scriptures in his hands to nurture his faith and prayer life, so that he may know and trust God, encourage him to proclaim Christ in his life, care for others, the creation that God made, and work for justice and peace? R: I do. L: Parents, sponsors and people of God, do you promise to support and pray for Harry in his new life in Christ? C: We do. Together we confess our faith in God, who creates, redeems and sustains us. Do you believe in God the Father? I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. Do you believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God? I believe in Jesus Christ, God s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead.
