3 Korean Ministry Our Staff Parish Relations Committee (SPRC) met on December 9 to meet with Rev. Daekyo Lee as we were in the process of finding a pastor for the Korean ministry. Pastor Lee is the ordained elder in the Korean Methodist Church. After reviewing his resume and personal testimony the SPRC unanimously approved to have Pastor Lee join our ministerial staff. His official title will be Associate Pastor, Korean Ministry. It will be a half time position for 20 hours a week starting January 1, He is married to Jae Eun Myung and they have a son, Hoo (Aiden) 7 years old and daughter, Soo (Aileen) who is 6. His primary responsibilities at this time include leading the praise team, facilitating small groups, and providing administrational needs for Korean ministry. His office hours will be Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Please welcome them and continue to pray for this new ministry opportunity we have here at NUMC. Starting this month there will be a second service at 11:30 AM in the Sanctuary. This service will be in Korean. Please let your Korean-speaking friends know about this new Sunday service. The 10 AM service will stay the same. Our Senior Pastor Joseph Choi will preach at both services in January (in English at 10 AM and in Korean at 11:30 AM).

4 Family Ministries Wow! We had one busy month in December! We started with an awesome painting workshop led by Barbara Nathanson, Caroling and spreading some holiday cheer, a Christmas play involving all ages, and finally a sensory friendly Christmas Eve Service. What a fun month! Coming up next: Family Ministries Meeting on Sunday, January 20 6:15 pm in the Kendall Building

5 For over 25 years, the nonprofit, Just People, has visited kids in Sylmar juvenile hall on Christmas Day to carol and deliver Christmas cards handmade especially for them. This year NUMC participated in the making of these cards. The New You UMW assembled from time to time at the home of Kay Lynn McGregor for unique creativity, treats and Christian fellowship. People who knew each other now know each other better. We were reminded that scissors, glue, markers and (best of all) glitter in the service of others can be great fun for all ages. The youth, under the leadership of Jason Obermeier, made cards with personal greetings during one of their Sunday meetings. Together, with cards made by children of North Hills United Methodist Mission, we provided over 400 cards. Mission & Outreach Thanks to all the women, youth and children who participated. A special "thank you" to Kay McGregor and Carolyn Pratt for their leadership and to Margaret Thomas for sacrificing her old Christmas cards for this project. Like it or not, we aren't as sharp as at 80 as we were at 60, even though we think we're fine. 1. Simplify your finances to make it easy for someone to take over. Consolidate any scattered CD accounts and IRA's, set up automatic payments to a credit card for regular bills (card companies provide fraud protection and create good financial files, including usernames and passwords.) 2. Then choose an agent who'll help you with your finances if you become uncertain or unable. Give him or her your durable financial power of attorney after having a heart-to-heart about what to expect, or consider a revocable trust. Chat with your agent about even small money decisions in order to get in the habit. Your financial advisers should have someone to contact if you start doing odd things (for example, making big gifts to a hired caregiver). Another power of attorney should go to the person you want to make medical decisions for you in case you can't make them yourself. Remember, failing to plan is planning to fail. Thanks to AARP for these suggestions. Don't forget - Senior Ministries has a list of medical equipment available to be borrowed. If you need equipment call either Jim Benham or Char Anderson Prayers Frank Sciarabba, Chuck Grant, Saundra Blankenship, Don Miller, Christine Coons, Delora Bloomingdale Prayers for the family of Bob Ulrich who passed away on 12/18/18 following a long illness.

7 Fellowship Movie Night Monday, January 7 PM in Kendall Building "RBG" On Monday, January 14, 2019, Church and Society will screen "RBG", which documents the exceptional life and career of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg who has developed a breathtaking legal legacy while becoming an unexpected pop culture icon.
