3 CHRISTMAS GREETINGS FROM ABERDEEN Sarah, Stewart and Deborah send their love to friends in Kirn, Dunoon and Sandbank during our Advent journey. We pray that God will bless you and your families and the three congregations of the linkage as you celebrate Christ s birth and move into a new year. We remember all our friends who have passed away in 2013, praying for God s continuing comfort and strength for those who loved them most and miss them greatly. May HOPE and PEACE fill your hearts and homes this Christmas! We appreciate those who have kept us in touch with your news and always enjoy reading through the electronic issue of Frontier which Marion sends us. Our news is that we have kept busy with the modernisation project of our sanctuary and hall. We have been worshipping in our smaller church centre down the road from the church for the last 15 months. Some of you have shared with us there so can picture the scene. This period has been a good year for building up relationships between people as we have sat in close fellowship in the Lounge and Bethune hall. We have felt modern with our need to project the service visually as well as acoustically to the room small hall upstairs. I have kept fit by running upstairs during the offering to lead the final part of the service upstairs! Our slogan for the parish card this year is We re going home for Christmas! Although the work in the halls and garden room extension is a little behind time the contractors are handing over the sanctuary level to us for our service on 21 st December. We re all getting excited here and gearing up for a busy Christmas! As a family we are very proud of Deborah s achievements in school. She has enjoyed school life here and made good friends. Recently we have been visiting universities around Scotland in connection with her application to study architecture. We send special greetings to the young ones of the churches. 4 3 COG NEWS We have been meeting every Wednesday in St John s Church hall. We have had some really good speakers, our numbers have been very consistent and we have a good blether at tea time. Can t believe that s the first half of the session over. In November we had our own Janet McKellar who have a really interesting talk on the HELP PROJECT for which she works. ELEANOR STEVENSON who spoke on the project PLANTLIFE which tries to keep the countryside safe for all the wild flowers, fungi etc and needs to make sure that they are preserved and not love for ever. We had a visit from PC DONALD McKAY on 19 th November from our local Police Station giving us advice about personal safety. He gave us lots of information, lots to think about and even gave us FREEBIES! We then had a talk from ANDREW MANWELL on THE MAJESTIC LINE, the cruise boat that takes passengers around Argyll and the Hebrides. Coming up in December are Alison Ireland and friends for a musical evening then our Christmas dinner at the Argyll Hotel on 10 th December to finish off the first half of our session. 6 5 PENCE CHARITY PROJECT A big thank you as always to all our collectors both big and small. It s amazing how it all adds up over a few weeks and a simple 5 pence turns into lots of pounds. We have four recipients of the money this time: 1 30 towards the EBOLA epidemic to help in some small way 2 25 to CHILDREN IN NEED which helps deprived and needy children in our own country 3 30 to SAVE THE CHILDREN particularly the children of SYRIA to help with homing, clothing, clean water etc to make life a little easier 4 20 to HEARING DOGS FOR THE DEAF again a charity in this country to help deaf people cope easier with daily problems, many of which we are not aware of. We had a speaker at COG recently who has been helped by having a dog and it has completely changed his life. We hope you approve of our chosen charities, we really appreciate your help in collecting for us, so please accept our changes for all your work. From all at the Sunday School SUNDAY SCHOOL It s that time of the year again and we have been practising for the last few Sundays for our Nativity Play which we will be performing on Sunday morning 21 st December. It s the normal Nativity but with a good few songs which we hope you will enjoy. We hope to have a great the week before on Saturday 13 th December when we will be going to the cinema to see one of the films, so that will be something good to look forward to. There might be a selection bod to take home with us! We hope you enjoy our play and we wish you all a Merry Christmas. News from Paul Beautyman s exp club This club for teenagers meets on a Friday evening in the Baptist Church Centre and at lunch clubs at DGS. They are holding a Christmas party on 12 th December and a Christmas celebration on 19 th December, both in the Baptist Centre from pm. 6

Contact New Life Christian Fellowship FROM THE FUND RAISING COMMITTEE We have had, thanks to your support, a very successful year since opening our Wee Shop, we have raised 25, At the time of writing we are amazed at the demand for Christmas decorations, we are also selling a few of the craft items made by the talented ladies inn our church and the tablet simply flies off the shelf. The alternative Christmas crackers prove to be as popular this year as previous. We are not sure how long our licence will continue, we have all agreed to keep open as long as we can.
