RELIGIOUS EDUCATION We have well developed courses for our children. Families are required to participate at Mass weekly. Please contact our Religious Education Office for information. SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM First and Third Sundays of each month. Arrangements must be made by contacting the Rectory. Godparents are required to be practicing Catholics attending Mass regularly. 1 st time parents must meet with a priest for instruction. All paperwork and payment (including sponsor certificates) are due at least 1 full week before the baptism.

3 HOLY NAME SOCIETY NEWS: HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP Parishioners of The Church of the Holy Family who will be attending any year of a Catholic High School in the Fall of 2018 may be eligible to win a $500 scholarship. The application should be filled out and handed in to the rectory by next Sunday, April 29 th, The winners will be announced Sunday, May 13 th, 2018 at the 9:15 Mass. In order to qualify the child must: 1. Be a parishioner of Holy Family Church and attend Sunday Mass regularly. 2. Have a good academic record. *If you are interested, please fill out a form in the vestibule and attach a typed essay, 14 font, double spaced, for the following prompt: How has your life been enriched by contributing or volunteering your services to the Church, School, or community in a specific and meaningful way? Sunday, April 22 nd, 2018 BEGINNING APOLOGETICS 1 APPENDIX 2 THE PROTESTANT REFORMERS' VIEW OF MARY Luther, Calvin, and Zwingli, the three fathers of the Reformation, each affirmed the Catholic doctrines that Mary is the Mother of God and a Perpetual Virgin. MARY AS MOTHER OF GOD Martin Luther: "In this work whereby she was made the Mother of God, so many and such good things were given her that no one can grasp them... Not only was Mary the mother of Him who is born [in Bethlehem], but of Him who, before the world, was eternally born of the Father, from a Mother in time and at the same time man and God.'' John Calvin: "It cannot be denied that God in choosing and destining Mary to be the Mother of His Son, granted her the highest honor... Elizabeth calls Mary Mother of the Lord, because the unity of the person in the two natures of Christ was such that she could have said that the mortal man engendered in the womb of Mary was at the same time the eternal God." Ulrich Zwingli: "It was given to her what belongs to no creature, that in the flesh she should bring forth the Son of God." MARY AS PERPETUAL VIRGIN Luther: "It is an article of faith that Mary is Mother of the Lord and still a virgin.. Christ, we believe, came forth from a womb left perfectly intact." Calvin: "There have been certain folk who have wished to suggest from this passage [Matt 1:25] that the Virgin Mary had other children than the Son of God, and that Joseph had then dwelt with her later; but what folly this is! For the gospel writer did not wish to record what happened afterwards; he simply wished to make clear Joseph s obedience and to show also that Joseph had been well and truly assured that it was God who had sent His angel to Mary. He had therefore never dwelt with her nor had he shared her company... And besides this Our Lord Jesus Christ is called the firstborn. This is not because there was a second or a third, but because the gospel writer is paying regard to the precedence. Scripture speaks thus of naming the first-born whether or not there was any question of the second." Zwingli: "firmly believe that Mary, according to the words of the gospel as a pure Virgin brought forth for us the Son of God and in childbirth and after childbirth forever remained a pure, intact Virgin" QUESTIONS ASKED ABOUT MARY 1. Why do Catholics adore Mary, who is just a human being? Catholics do not adore Mary; we venerate and honor her. Why? The angel calls her "full of grace" and one who has "found favor with God" (Lk 1:28); Elizabeth, filled with the Holy Spirit calls her "blessed among women"; and Mary herself declares that "all generations shall call me blessed". Catholics, following Scripture, always call her blessed. Do you?
