ATTENTION 2018 HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATES The following bursaries, administered by St. Peter s Catholic Women s League, are available to any student that graduated in June 2018 from grade 12 (or who has already graduated in 2017) and is continuing their education for the very first time at a community college or university: Angeline McCarthy Memorial Bursary Agnes Dufaure Memorial Bursary You may apply for both bursaries; however, you must be the daughter or son, granddaughter or grandson of a registered member of St. Peter s Parish. St. Peter s Community ADORATION The community of St. Peter s Parish will begin monthly adoration in October 2018 from 7-8 PM. As a community, we will choose the day. All parishioners are invited to submit their preference in writing to the Parish Office, identifying the DAY Monday through Friday; and identifying the WEEK First week of each month, Second week of each month, or Third week of each month. 2 Pastoral Ministry Workshops this Fall Parish Pastoral Councils & Pastoral Ministry Workshop All pastors and members of Parish Pastoral Councils and anyone interested in learning more about pastoral ministry in the diocese, are invited to a special workshop on Wednesday, October 10 th from 7-9pm at Pro-Cathedral Parish. Baptism Workshop 1: Infant Baptism & Evangelization This workshop will be a special forum on Infant Baptism and Evangelization an opportunity to discuss Church teaching on Baptism and the challenges faced by pastoral teams. Thursday, October 11 th from 7-9pm at Pro-Cathedral Parish Baptism Workshop 2: Diocesan guidelines for Infant Baptism Following up from the previous workshop, there will be a presentation of proposed Diocesan guidelines for the Baptism of infants. This will be an opportunity to provide feedback/suggested amendments for this document. Thursday, November 8 th from 7-9pm at St. Peter s. All members welcome. The law of love The Pharisees criticized Jesus for letting his disciples pick grain on the sabbath to eat. The disciples were desperately hungry, or they would not have been breaking the sabbath rules. Jesus radical idea is that the sabbath is made for people, not the other way around. As Lord of the sabbath, Jesus recognizes that if religious observance hurts people, something s wrong with our priorities. Religion can seem to focus on the do s and don ts, but rules are not ends in themselves. They serve to bring about love and justice, not give us opportunities to oppress or exclude one another. In his Book of Pastoral Rule, Pope Gregory, says, The law of Christ is charity. Try to keep the rules in perspective when you apply them to yourself or others. THE SACRAMENT OF FIRST RECONCILIATION AND FIRST COMMUNION PARENTS ONLY MEETING (no children required ) at St. Peter s Parish Hall on Thursday, September 20, 2018 at 7:00 pm If you have children in Grade 3 or older and wish the Sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Communion for them, please plan to attend this meeting. If your child was not baptized at St. Peter s, we will need a copy of their baptism certificate. Holy Land Wood Art Display & Sale The main income for the Christian community of Bethlehem is selling their hand crafted olive wood religious items to the pilgrims who visit the area. The past few years have been extremely hard for the community as a result of declining tourism and political unrest. Some Christians responded by fleeing the Holy Land, and the absence of a living Christian community is very dangerous for the Holy Sites where Jesus was born, crucified and resurrected. On September 22 & 23, 2018 before and after both Mass at St. Peter s we will have some of their beautiful art held for sale in an effort to strengthen the Christian presence in the Holy Land. Funds raised by your purchase of holy land wood art will be used to strengthen the Christian presence in the Holy Land.

Cemetery Sunday September 9, 2018 In keeping with its commitment to the community, every year, the Knights of Columbus hosts Cemetery Sunday. Cemetery Sunday provides the Catholic community with a special opportunity to visit and pray for their family and friends, a time to socialize and remember old times and a place where children can learn about their family history. 5 sharing Christ a seven week mission Dear Friends, We invite you to participate in the third course in the ChristLife series called Sharing Christ. In this course, we will learn how to express ourselves as true disciples to all those we meet. Sharing Christ will be held at the Pro-Cathedral beginning September 11 from 6:30 to 8:30 for six consecutive Tuesday evenings and conclude with a retreat on Saturday, October 20.
