Order of Worship October 8, 2017 GOD CALLS US TO WORSHIP from Isaiah 11 LEADER: There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse, and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit. And the Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, MEN: The Spirit of wisdom and understanding, WOMEN: The Spirit of counsel and might, ALL: The Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the LORD. LEADER: And his delight shall be in the fear of the LORD. PEOPLE: He shall not judge by what his eyes see, or decide disputes by what his ears hear, but with righteousness he shall judge the poor, and decide with equity for the meek of the earth. LEADER: Righteousness shall be the belt of his waist, and faitulness the belt of his loins. MEN: The wolf shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the young goat, and the calf and the lion and the fattened calf together; and a little child shall lead them. LEADER: The cow and the bear shall graze; their young shall lie down together; and the lion shall eat straw like the ox. WOMEN: The nursing child shall play over the hole of the cobra, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the adder s den. LEADER: They shall not hurt or destroy in all my holy mountain; PEOPLE: For the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD as the waters cover the sea. 2

2 LEADER: For the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD as the waters cover the sea. ALL: (with a loud voice) For the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD as the waters cover the sea. LEADER: In that day the root of Jesse, who shall stand as a signal for the peoples of him shall the nations inquire, and his resting place shall be glorious. WE SING PRAISES TO GOD OPEN THE EYES OF MY HEART Open the eyes of my heart, Lord, Open the eyes of my heart; I want to see You, I want to see You. (repeat) To see You high and lifted up, Shining in the light of Your glory. Pour out Your pow r and love; As we sing holy, holy, holy. Holy, holy, holy Holy, holy, holy Holy, holy, holy I want to see you. HOLY, HOLY, HOLY Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty, Early in the morning, our songs shall rise to Thee; Holy, Holy, Holy! Merciful and Mighty, God in three Persons, Blessed Trinity. Holy, Holy, Holy! Though the darkness hide Thee, Though the eye of sinful man, Thy glory may not see Only Thou art holy, there is none beside Thee, Perfect in pow r, in love and purity. Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty! All Thy works shall praise Thy name, in earth and sky and sea, Holy, Holy, Holy! Merciful and mighty! God in three Persons, blessed Trinity! 3 Wee Ones Children are a blessing to the Redeemer family! For all nursery-related questions, find our Welcome Desk attendant in the Education Building. ha nursery is provided on the first floor of the Education Building for children up to 2 years. hpick up a kids clip case (black for ages 3-6; blue for ages 7-10) on your way into the service. WHAT A BEAUTIFUL NAME You were the Word at the beginning, One with God the Lord Most High, Your hidden glory in creation Now revealed in You our Christ What a beautiful Name it is, What a beautiful Name it is The Name of Jesus Christ my King What a beautiful Name it is, Nothing compares to this What a beautiful Name it is, The Name of Jesus You didn t want heaven without us; So, Jesus, You brought heaven down, My sin was great Your love was greater What could separate us now What a wonderful Name it is, What a wonderful Name it is The Name of Jesus Christ my King What a wonderful Name it is, Nothing compares to this What a wonderful Name it is, The Name of Jesus What a wonderful Name it is, The Name of Jesus Death could not hold You, The veil tore before You You silence the boast of sin and grave, The heavens are roaring, The praise of Your glory For You are raised to life again You have no rival, You have no equal Now and forever, God, You reign, Yours is the kingdom, Yours is the glory, Yours is the Name above all names What a powerful Name it is, What a powerful Name it is The Name of Jesus Christ my King What a powerful Name it is, Nothing can stand against What a powerful Name it is, The Name of Jesus GOD REVEALS HIS WILL FOR OUR LIVES from Ephesians 1:13-19a In Christ you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guaranteed of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of 4

4 his glory. For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all God s people, I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. WE CONFESS OUR SINS TO GOD GOD ASSURES US OF OUR FORGIVENESS from Ephesians 1:19b-23 That power is the same as the mighty strength he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way. THE SOLID ROCK My hope is built on nothing less Than Jesus blood and righteousness I dare not trust my sweetest frame But wholly lean on Jesus Name On Christ the solid Rock I stand All other ground is sinking sand, all other ground is sinking sand continued Within Community Community Groups are the main ministry of Redeemer outside of Sunday morning worship. Connect with a community group during the week for great fellowship and Bible study. However, community groups at Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Charleston, SC, are much more than just Bible studies. These groups are like house churches where we want to live in community with each other like Luke writes about in Acts 2:42-47 because we re a family on mission together. Community groups are where we can learn together as disciples, take care of one another as neighbors, and reach out to our communities in love. Within our community groups we also organize weekly women s Bible studies meeting in neighborhoods around Charleston. hsee page 8 for a list of community groups and contacts who can tell you what s offered in your area, or visit our website: redeemer-charleston.org/ community-groups. 5

5 Where in the World When darkness seems to veil his face I rest on His unchanging grace In every high and stormy gale My anchor holds within the veil (chorus) His oath His covenant and blood Support me in the whelming flood When all around my soul gives way He then is all my hope and stay (chorus) When He shall come with trumpet sound O may I then in Him be found Dressed in His righteousness alone Faultless to stand before the throne (chorus) WE GIVE TO THE LORD (OFFERING) Parents, if you d like for your children (3K-5K) to participate in Children s Worship during the sermon, please walk with them now to the Welcome Desk to sign them in. More information about Children s Worship is printed in the sidebar on page 3. WE PRAY FOR GOD S PEOPLE, WORK, AND WORLD See left sidebar for information about this week s missionary couple. WE HEAR GOD S WORD (SERMON) from Deuteronomy 34:1-4 Rev. Craig Bailey 6
