ANDREW S All adults who come in contact with our young children and teens during their volunteering in our parish ministries MUST BE VETTED THROUGH THE ARCHDIOCESE S PROTECTING GOD S CHILDREN (PGC) PROGRAM which includes filling out the Volunteer Application Package paperwork, submitting to a Background Check and attending a PGC Training Session. The next PGC Training Session being held at St. Andrew s is on Wednesday, November 14 at 7:00 PM in the MPR in the Parish Center. All volunteers (including church ushers) must be compliant with the Archdiocese s guidelines. Please send your contact information to bulletin@standrewcc.com and Nancy Corbett will send you the registration information. Thank you for volunteering your time and talent for our faith community. THE BOOK OF REMEMBRANCE will be available in the Church to inscribe the names of beloved deceased family members and friends. The Book is placed adjacent to the Baptismal font in the Church and will remain there throughout November. All are welcome to memorialize their deceased loved ones by placing their names in the book.

3 THIRTY-FIRST SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME REFLECTION TEACH PEACE AND FOLLOW AFTER IT When we look at today s world, we might think that establishing peace is impossible. It seems to elude us at every turn. We see ethnic groups hating each other and attacking one another. We see terrible violence on evening television. We feel the threat of international war and know the arms race is still going strong. We know that poverty still threatens much of the world. We sense that many people fear and hate each other. And, we know that in the workplace many people are cut apart by greed and competition. Will the world sink into darkness, or will it emerge into a new renaissance of peace. The answer to this question is in our hands. As we approach the world around us, we Christians do so in the name of Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace. We say this, and we believe it, but what does it mean? How do we become agents of peace in our neighborhoods and wider society? First, we teach that peace of heart is the beginning point. This means that we must turn our hearts toward others all others with love. We must reduce our prejudices and put an end to hating other people. We can t do this alone, we must spend time each day in prayer. As St. Augustine has written, Thou has made us for thyself, O Lord, and our heart is restless till it rests in thee. We must bind ourselves to God. Second, we teach that social peace is something that we must live every day. In our homes and all the rest of our lives. I challenge you this month to declare peace. Learn how to live in peace with one another, learn how to respect and trust each other. God wants us to love one another profoundly. We must bind ourselves to one another. And third, we teach that international peace is more than the absence of war. It s the presence of trust between nations. Despite our political point of view, we must expose the myth that using force produces peace. We must resist the myth that nationalism is the highest value. We must deny the myth that revenge brings peace of heart. And most importantly, we must believe that justice precedes peace. As long as people live in poverty, disease and illiteracy, violence will follow. We must bind ourselves to the human community on earth. MASS BOOK OPENING THE MASS BOOK FOR 2019 WILL OPEN TO BEGIN SCHEDULING MASSES ON: TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 6, FOLLOWING THE 9:00 AM MASS IN THE MULTI-PURPOSE ROOM OF THE PARISH CENTER In order to accommodate those families and friends of the recently deceased throughout the year and enable the majority of our parishioners to participate in the celebration of the liturgy, the total number of Mass requests accepted from each individual, on that day, will be limited to two weekday Masses and two weekend Masses. Please note, in addition to Masses, we offer Memorials for the hosts, wine and sanctuary candle in the church and the chapel. We are hopeful that these guidelines will allow the majority of St. Andrew s parishioners the ongoing benefit of obtaining a Mass or Memorial for their loved ones during the course of the year. St. Andrew s Children s Christmas Pageant Sunday, December 16 at 2:00 PM Calling all 3rd and 4th graders. It s your turn to perform in our annual Christmas Pageant. 6th graders are called to be narrators. Contact the Religious Education Office no later than Nov. 26 if you would like to participate. Attendance at all 3 rehearsals is mandatory! Rehearsals for Pageant Players and Narrators: Wednesday, December 5 4:00-5:00 PM in the Church Wednesday, December 12 4:00 5:00 PM in the Church Dress Rehearsal Saturday, December 15 9:00 10:30 AM in the Church Children s Choir members are part of the Pageant. New members are welcome! Practice begins November 12, following the 10:30 Mass as well as the Dress Rehearsal. All Children in 2nd grade and younger are invited to join our assembly of angels on the afternoon of the Pageant. (No rehearsal required). All 7th and 8th Graders Meet in November for Outreach Night 7th graders meet on November 13 from 6:00 8:00 PM in the gym. 8th graders meet on November 14 from 6:00 8:00 PM in the gym. Pizza is served. Please bring in travel size toiletries soap, shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste, comb, razors are suggested items. We look forward to seeing all of you.
