3 TWENTY-EIGHTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME MINISTRY CORNER PARISH PILGRIMAGE TO THE HOLY DOORS IN PARK RIDGE Our parish pilgrimage will be on Saturday, October 15 at Noon, celebrating the Jubilee Year of Mercy. We will drive our cars from our parking lot to Our Lady of Mercy Church, 2 Fremont Avenue, Park Ridge. We will come together to process outside around the church, enter through the Holy Doors into the church for a prayer service led by Fr. Alex. Registration is necessary in the event of a last minute cancellation due to a funeral at OLM. Please contact Fran Yates at and leave a message with your name, phone number, and how many people will attend. If you need a ride, indicate it in your message for Fran. The pilgrimage will proceed rain or shine. We are called to show mercy because mercy has first been shown to us. VOICES THAT CHALLENGE THE OUTSTRETCHED HAND OF CHRIST Pope Francis, reflecting on the immense love of God, said the Church can never allow herself to act as that priest and Levite who ignored the man half dead at the side of the road. She cannot look away and turn her back on the many forms of poverty that cry out for mercy. Human mercy is not authentic until it has attained tangible expression in the actions of our daily life You are the outstretched hand of Christ: have you thought this? The credibility of the Church is also conveyed in a convincing way through your service to abandoned children, to the sick, the poor who lack food or work, to the elderly, the homeless, prisoners, refugees and immigrants, to all struck by natural disasters The world stands in need of concrete signs of solidarity, especially as it is faced with the temptation to indifference. An October Evening Prayer Day is done, Lord Autumn's evening chill shivers, turning leaves and me to season's change...the shiver shakes awake the fall within and for any early frost upon my heart: I ask your pardon... And for this day's noontime warmth, October hues and simple joys: I give you praise...into your Sacred Heart and holy arms receive all those who lean on me and all who care for me...day is done, Lord...May this night's moon shine bright with peace on all until the sun shall rise again Amen.
