2 Grace and peace to you from God our Creator, Jesus the Light and the Holy Spirit that moves in around and among us these days. Summer has finally arrived! Thanks be to God! As the full moon rose this week, I reminded of the cycles of life and changes that are constantly surrounding us. The weather channel reports that this is one of the warmest Mays in the history of the Rochester area. It seems as though the snow just melted! The times they are a changing. I am reminded of Ecclesiastes 3: 1 8 which is so apropos during transitions. For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: 2 a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted; 3 a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; 4 a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; 5 a time to throw away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; 6 a time to seek, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to throw away; 7 a time to tear, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; 8 a time to love, and a time to hate; a time for war, and a time for peace. Pastor s Message And times of transition invite us into times of discernment. Discernment is a process through which together with God, we pray and listen to God. We have a conversation with God! Discernment is about being open, curious and attuned to what God is up to --- with you and with your community. And it s being confident that you [we] have a part to play in the story of God s love for the world. Discernment is about being open, curious and attuned to what God is up to with you and with your community. And it s being confident that you have a part to play in the story of God s love for the world. (ELCA) It is about being aware of what God has given us and our communities and how God is calling us to be part of God s story and God s love for the world. Discerning is being open to new opportunities to serve and reach out and share the Good news. As part of the process to call the next Pastor for our communities, each council is are working through the Ministry Site Profile (MSP). The MSP is the main document that our synod will be working to match us up with a prospective candidate to interview. One of the items for us to consider is to identify our Top Five Ministry Tasks. That is a tough one. We will also be asked for what we are looking for in a candidate as to their Gifts for Ministry from a list of 30. Your input and thoughts are not only welcome but are needed! Please make yourself available for times or ways that you can feed into the process. If you have any questions please contact Nancy at St. Paul and Chuck at Zion! With blessings and hope, Pastor Debbie P a g e 2

Contact Joan Brydges or Ann Myers. Stewardship Message from Nancy Faulds Praise our Mighty God for His awesome, steadfast love! He is surely walking with us just as He promised! Pastor Deb has been a steady guiding hand for us as we have been trying to work through our Ministry Site Profile (MSP)! It is 11 pages of intense questions. We are working on some questions that we will soon present to you all for your input. Pastor Deb has also found us some wonderful Supply Pastors to preach encouraging words of our God s great love for us. Pastor Hanrahan asked God to hold us gently in the palm of His hand each Sunday he was with us. Pastor Mary Johnson told us about all our Super Powers that we are blessed with by God in being able to help each other by taking time to reach out and show we care by offering encouragement to others. Lori Nickoloff blessed us with her clear strong voice proclaiming God is our hope and our good shepherd who would give up his life for the sheep. We were blessed to share a musical treat with Publick Musick s string quintet on April 26th. What a joy to see those beautiful instruments played with such enthusiasm! Not to mention the yummy cookies we had afterwards! We gave a few to each of the musicians also. They were grateful, and everyone had a great time. It seems like our work is taking quite a while, and going through change is hard, but it is going well. Soon we will need everyone s input. This is a time of rebirth and new exploration into who we are and what we want to become as we go into the future. You will want to be a part of it all. Not only has it been a little rocky for us but also for our country and our world! May 3rd was 2018 National Prayer Day for America. There was a mighty prayer shared by Dr. Ronnie Floyd, senior pastor of Cross Church, in our church bulletin last week. He expressed an earnest plea for all American believers to join in bold prayer for forgiveness for our divisiveness and sins against each other and for unity in America. Pray passionately, perpetually, privately and publicly for family, workplaces, communities, and cities for forgiveness, reconciliation, healing and revival of faith and a Holy Spirit awaking for this generation in the name of Jesus Christ the only hope in the world! God Bless America and the whole world that He has in His hands! As Summer comes and everyone goes on wellearned vacations, try to keep up with our gifts pledged to St. Paul s. The need always continues even when we aren t present. God bless you all for all you do to support St. Paul s. Enjoy the warm weather and get some relaxation and Sonshine everyday if you can!
