During this time of preparation, you are encouraged to pray silently, asking the Holy Spirit to enable you to cling to and delight yourself in Christ. (PLEASE SILENCE ALL PHONES AND ELECTRONIC DEVICES.) *CALL TO WORSHIP *AFFIRMATION OF PRAISE (# 363) *AFFIRMATION OF FAITH Based on 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 Unison: We Gather Together The Gospel of Christ For the gospel has been given to us, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures for our justification. 3 *MORNING PRAYER (CLOSING WITH THE LORD S PRAYER ) Our father, who art in heaven; Hallowed be Thy Name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done; on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts; as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil; for Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION SERMON Faith Alone Pastor Dick Jones *COLLECTIVE CONFESSION Most merciful Father, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed especially in our lack of joy over you, in the countless ways we do not treasure you as we ought. We have not loved you with our whole hearts. We have also failed to love our neighbors as ourselves. We are broken over these sins and we humbly repent. For the sake of your only-begotten Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy upon us and forgive us. Dear Father, cause us to walk in your ways and to delight in you as children of the living God. *ASSURANCE OF PARDON (Psalm 103:10-13) To all who confess themselves to be sinners, humbling themselves before God and believing in the Lord Jesus Christ for their salvation, I declare this sure promise: He does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is His love for those who fear Him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us. As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear Him. The 47 Club The 47 club is a means of providing financial assistance to women in crisis pregnancies, women who have had children out of wedlock, orphanages, adoptions, and pro-life ministries. Members of The 47 Club will commit to give $47.00 per month to support the sanctity of human life. The 47 Club finds its impetus in the Scripture. (Please return to sound tech following the service.) *PARENTS OF YOUNG CHILDREN: THE CRY ROOM, located in the Narthex across from the elevator, is available for mothers and babies. *THE NURSERY is available for children 0 through 4 years of age. (They are also welcome in the sanctuary.) Please transport any nursery-going children immediately following the Doxology. *PLEASE TURN OFF watch alarms, cell phones, and pagers before the service. *PARENTS please help us limit the distractions during our worship service by making sure your children attend to restroom needs, etc. before the service. 4

5 The Heidelberg Catechism Q & A # Minister: All: What, then, is necessary for a Christian to believe? All that is promised us in the gospel, which the articles of our catholic and undoubted Christian faith teach us in a summary. Minister: All: What are these articles? I. I believe in God the Father, Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. II. III. IV. And in Jesus Christ, His only begotten Son, our Lord; Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary; Suffered under Pontius Pilate; was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell; V. The third day He rose again from the dead; VI. He ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; VII. From thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead.. VIII. I believe in the Holy Spirit. IX. I believe in a holy catholic Church., the communion of saints; X. The forgiveness of sins; XI. The resurrection of the body; XII. And the life everlasting. 8 Bridge Builders is a network of Christians pooling resources to help the hopeless. This is a ministry of our Diaconate here at Christ Presbyterian Church. There are no administration costs - all contributions go directly to ministries such as: Bridge Builders Taking the Gospel to those without hope Matthew 25:34-40 Blessing Bag distribution (for homeless folks) Bible Distribution to Jails and Prisons Prison Fellowship Ministries and other prison ministries including Halfway House Ministry Angel Tree ministry to children of an incarcerated parent Blessing Garden support and food distribution to those in need Support for ministry to those struggling with substance abuse and addiction You can help us build bridges to those without hope by giving only $10.00 each month - that s giving up one lunch a month.
