2 May 15, 2016 FROM THE PASTOR Page Two Pentecost Sunday My Dear Brothers and Sisters, the great Feast of the Holy Spirit is upon us. Pentecost, as we hear in our readings today, marked the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles. We also celebrate this Feast as marking the birth of the Church. This marvelous Feast recalls that day when the Apostles and Disciples sitting in the upper room were empowered to go out and preach and teach without fear the story and the message of Jesus. The power of the Holy Spirit, made visible in the roaring wind and the tongues of fire over the disciples, allowed them to embrace the mission Jesus entrusted to them when he told them: To go out and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. For it is in the coming of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles that Jesus, gives birth to the Church. It was Jesus plan that the completion of his mission of salvation would be done by his disciples, His Mystical Body, the Church on earth. This Feast is a reminder to all of us of the ongoing presence, power and gifts of the Holy Spirit in the Church and in each one of us. The same Holy Spirit that appeared as tongues of fire over the apostles is a flame that burns in each of us by our Baptism and Confirmation. That same Holy Spirit is present in our Church today to empower us to go out and proclaim the Good News to our community, our town, our state, our nation and the world. Pentecost Sunday brings the Easter Season to a close. Let us all celebrate this Feast of the of the Holy Spirit by praying that the Gifts of the Holy Spirit, which we received in the Sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation, may guide us in our daily lives. It is also a good time to reflect on how we are using those gifts in the service of Our Lord in the Church. I pray that each one of us will use our gifts of time, talent and treasure in the service of Our Lady of Good Counsel and all of the Church. Congratulations to our First Communicants Last Saturday, May 7th, we had a joyful and beautiful celebration of First Holy Communion. We congratulate our children who made their First Holy Communion. This was a special day for each of the children, their parents and guardians and our parish family. We are proud of each and every one of the children. Our First Communion children s names are listed below. We want to thank the parents and family members who attended the mass and made it a very prayerful celebration. We also want to thank our Religious Education Coordinator, Mr. Matt DeCaux and their teachers Maria Clinton and Pat McCarthy and their aides, Rebekah Braun-McGovern, Liana Dinallo, Lisa Hakimian, Lisa Gannan, Elizabeth McCarthy and Christine Vita for preparing them for First Holy Communion. Sunday morning many of our First Communicants returned for the 10:30 am mass dressed in their communion dresses and suits to participate in our May Crowning. We had a wonderful celebration of the May Crowning of the statue of Mary. The children could not have celebrated a more prayerful and joyful May Crowning in honor of our Blessed Mother Mary. We want to thank all of the children and their parents. May God bless you all. Parish Picnic Mark your calendars and get ready for a fun day. Our Parish Picnic will be on Sunday, June 5th at the Washington Township Pool & Recreation Club. See flyer at back of bulletin for details. Tickets will be on sale soon. Anyone or any business who would like to make donations for the picnic can contact our Pastoral Council members by leaving a message at the rectory office. 10:30 AM Mass in Church Starting next Sunday, May 22nd, the 10:30 am mass will be in the Church for the summer. May God bless you, Fr. Stephen Cinque 586

On Saturday, May 7 th, we had 31 children receive their First Holy Communion! Although the weather was not great, what a beautiful Mass we had! Along with our First Communion children, we had over 550 people in the Marian Center! Father Cinque, Father Ray, and Deacon Bob helped lead us in a wonderful liturgy. I would like to thank all of the people who helped make the Mass go so well. First, I would like to thank those who served as ushers and Eucharistic Ministers; Anthony Baldini, Vinny Vinagre, and Janet Glasner. Speaking of Janet Glasner, I want to thank her for preparing the Marian Center for the Mass. Second, I would like to thank Deacon Ron Romano and Rebekah Braun-McGovern for leading us in song. Third, I would like to thank the Catechists and Aides who helped instruct and lead the classes all year round; Rebekah Braun- McGovern, Maria Clinton, Liana Dinallo, Lisa Gannon, Lisa Hakimian Elizabeth McCarthy, Pat McCarthy, and Christine Vita. Finally, I would like to thank Claudia Carroll who worked late many days the past week in order to ensure everything went well with the practice and Mass and to make sure I did not miss anything. Without all of these people, there is NO way we could have had as successful a First Communion Mass as we did. Keep an eye out in the coming weeks for photos from our First Communion Mass in the bulletin! Also, our First Communion children attended the 10:30 am Mass the next day and led us in crowning Mary. It was a beautiful Mass and we were blessed to have so many people there. This past Monday, we celebrated and thanked all of our Religious Education volunteers. Father Steve and Father Ray celebrated Mass for us and then we all had dinner in the Rackley Room. It was a blessed evening and a great way to wrap up the year! Now that we celebrated Confirmation and First Communion, it is time to begin to prepare for the fall. With over 220 children already registered for this upcoming year, we are already in need of teachers and aides for both Sunday mornings and Tuesday afternoons.
