2 August 24, 2014 FROM THE FACILITIES MANAGER Page Two Good Morning Parishioners and Friends, My name is George Strobel. I have been the Facilities Manager here at Our Lady of Good Counsel for the past fourteen years. I would like to thank everyone who volunteer their time and effort throughout the year to help make our parish what it is today. Your help is greatly appreciated by myself and the staff of OLGC. We will have another clean-up weekend this Fall. The date will be announced in the bulletin. Please try to take the time to join us. Many hands make light the work. There are many projects we are working on - some noticeable and some not. We have been working on the school building this past year and some of the projects included upgrading all the flushers in the lavatories and replacing outside classroom doors. This will hopefully make the building a more desirable rental property. There is a new sound system in the Marian Center thanks to the hard work of Claudia Carroll and her helpers and the money raised at Casino Night. We are trying to make things better for all of us. Hopefully we can do more in the future. If you have any comments, questions or suggestions, please feel free to call or at georgeolgc@gmail.com. At your service, George Strobel Call to Ministry All of us are called through Baptism to serve the Church. There are many different ways of serving. We are looking for volunteers to answer the call of service as Extraordinary Ministers of Communion (Eucharistic Ministers), Lectors, Altar Servers and Ushers. Ministry of Extraordinary Minister of Communion serves the parish in two ways. The first is assisting the priests in giving out Holy Communion at Mass. The second is in bringing Holy Communion to the sick and shut-ins in the parish. The Ministry of Lector is to assist the priests by the reading of Sacred Scripture at Mass and at special prayer services. Altar Servers are boys and girls who assist the priest during Mass, and the Ushers greet people arriving for Mass and take up the offertory collection. Each of those called to these ministries will undergo a preparation and training before entering into the ministry. If you think you might be interested in using your God given gifts and talents in any of these ministries please contact Fr. Duffe or Fr. Cinque. 586

3 RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS Twenty-First Sunday in Ordinary Time STEWARDSHIP Page Three SHARE THE GOOD NEWS! VOLUNTEER TO BE A CATECHIST - Our Lady of Good Counsel needs your help and support in order to provide quality religious education for over 170 students in our parish religious education program. With so many families seeking faith formation for their children, we need many volunteers to staff our classrooms and offices in the Fall. All adult parishioners are welcome to volunteer. Training will be provided. Parents of children enrolled in the religious education program who also volunteer in the program will have their registration fee waived. Please prayerfully consider sharing your time and talent as a volunteer in our religious education program. If you are interested in becoming a Catechist, Co-Catechist, or Office Assistant, please call the Religious Education Office at YOUTH MINISTRY Youth Group meets every Wednesday from 7:00-9:00 pm in the Youth Room. All teens in grades 6-12 are invited. Come and bring a friend! PARISH NEWS PARISH FOOD COLLECTION - While we enjoy our summer vacation let s not forget our food pantry. There is still a great need for nonperishable food, paper products, personal hygiene items, etc. And as always monetary donations are accepted and turned into Shoprite gift cards. The suggested donation for the week of August 31 st is Canned Tuna Fish. SUMMER SUNDAY MASS SCHEDULE - ALL Sunday Masses will be celebrated in the church until Sunday, September 7 th. SUMMER DAILY MASS SCHEDULE - There will be only one daily Mass which will be celebrated at 8:45 am. The 7:30 am Mass resumes on Monday, September 8 th. PRAYER INTENTION FOR THE WEEK OF AUG 24 TH Let us pray this week for vocations to the priesthood and consecrated religious life of sisters and brothers. May more young people heed the call of the Lord to service in the Church.
