2 The Ascension seems like a conclusion, and in some ways it is. It concludes the earthly ministry of Jesus and ends one way the disciples have known him. But the Ascension is also a bridge to another, new and surprising way the disciples will know Jesus. Through the power of the Holy Spirit they will come to know the Risen Lord in and through his sacramental presence. God s wonderful love cannot be defeated. The Holy Spirit empowers us to experience the presence of our God in our world today. So, even though it is not a liturgical feast, it is a good day to celebrate Mother s Day. Today as we honor our mothers on their special day; we honor the power of love. The love we have received from our mom s is the very power of God s love. We receive an idea of what God looks like as we look at the love of a mother. How can we not be deeply grateful to the women who gave us the very gift of life? And how blessed are those of us whose moms in a very real way gave us a second birth, a birth to eternal life, as they nurtured us in the ways of faith? It is a good day to give thanks to all the moms in our faith community and pray that through their love and guided by the Holy Spirit they will continue to make the presence of God known to the world. We offer a Happy Mother s Day to all the Mothers of St. Mary on the Hill Parish. And we offer congratulations to all the children who received their First Holy Communion this weekend! We thank their teachers and families for helping our children to be so well prepared for this important event in their faith lives. First Communion is the beginning of a life of faith that continues to be strengthened and nourished by the Eucharist every Sunday at Mass. I ve asked our first communicants to wear their first communion dresses and suits so that we can all share in their joy as they receive Jesus in their second Holy Communion today. Let us continue to pray that the following children build upon the grace received this weekend as they come to receive our Eucharistic Lord at Sunday Mass each and every week: Barrett David Alexander Selina Maria Apa Aurelia Grace Beck Britt McCarthy Bennett Kyle Davis Berzett Amelia Grace Blincoe Gabriel Michael Blincoe Isabelle Grace Boling Thomas Vaughan Boulus Joseph Edward Bowles, Jr. Mary Claire Brewton David Brodbeck Byrdy Hannah Grace Byrdy Keegan Lantz Carter Carolyn Gill Cashin Paul Richard Conner Elijah Graham Cosper Tyler Anthony Delrosa Oscar Xavier Detchemendy William Michael Donnelly Kevin Augustine Douglas Vinson Grey Dresser Jacob Aidan Chacon Eclavea Maria Elizabeth Gillion John Paul Givens Emma Patrice Gladd Gigi Gabriella Graziano Sophia Renee Greene Sophie May Groves Susan Irene Hagler Dominic Anthony Halbur Thomas Riley Hodell Caroline Grace Holleran Amber Catalina Horton Savannah Mia Horton Vincent Bennett Iandoli Jonathan Paul Lukas Jabaley Caroline Garrett Jackson Daniel Patrick Jackson Hannah Lynn Johnson Lacey Nell Koltz Emily Frances Kruckow Lucia Marin Lammers Kathryn Elizabeth Lanham Patrick Michael McArdle Georgia Katherine Merchen Brannon Lee Merrell John Frederic Merz Landry Eleanor Minton Kolbe Evan Navarre James Grady Noegel Andrew Bradford Noland Tristan Irving Norviel Sarah Catherine O Quinn Meara Grace Ouellette Dominique Lydia Alejandra Pantin Andrew Bradley Pond Reid Carlton Poteet Joseph William Prohaska Joel Lee Redman, III Andrew James Rose, Jr. Sean Thomas Rose Xavier Adan Ruiz Mary Carla Elise Salmons John Stephen Sammons, Jr. Anna Bridget Shuford Carly Ann Smith James Edward Spears, III Margaret Elizabeth Summers Corell Louise Tribby Sarah Elizabeth Tropea Mark Everett Tudor, Jr. Brenton Haze Vasquez Evan Alexander Walters Diego Joseph Washington Anne Murrin Welsh Liam Broderick Welsh Lena Rose Whitwell Analeigh Meredith Whyte Hannah Elizabeth Williford Emily Grace Bethel Wright

Catholic Communication Campaign Imagine five diocesan staff members trying to accomplish the same results as all the communication professionals in all the cities in the 90 counties of South Georgia combined are doing on a daily basis. The Catholic Communication Campaign collection on Pentecost weekend, May helps the Diocese of Savannah accomplish this goal. Half the collection will remain in South Georgia to fund the diocesan website, social media channels, and the Southern Cross as well as special projects like last year s Mass from Forsyth Park in Savannah. The other half funds national projects such as the and web sites. Part of our tithe next weekend will support this collection.
