2 Gnagy News November brings us several celebrations! The Harvest Dinner on November 11; Thanksgiving celebrations in church and home; and the closing of the liturgical year in the church celebrating Christ the King. I keep thinking of psalms of praise, such as Psalm 96: O sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord all the earth. Sing to the Lord, bless God s name; tell of his salvation from day to day. Declare God s glory among the nations, his marvelous works among the peoples. For great is the Lord and greatly to be praised. God is the creator of all the good things for which we give thanks at this time of year. Let us give thanks to God! I would like to give thanks to God especially here for the music in our church and the ways in which our members are so willing to share their gifts in order to praise and worship God. When we learned that Tom Witkowski was no longer able to continue as our accompanist, we prayed for him in his new endeavors, and gave thanks for the music he has shared with us. Now we give thanks that Colin Arnett and Marion Smith have stepped up to share accompanist responsibilities during our worship services. They are both very talented and we are glad to have them. I also give thanks that we are able to balance having Colin share his musical gifts in worship and still continue participating in the Youth Group, since Marion has agreed to play for the portions of the service that take place during that time. We also give thanks for Alan Beyel and the many ways in which his musical gifts are involved in our worship service. The music he writes and selects for the choir is beautiful and inspirational, and he is wonderful in the ways in which he works with the choir, accompanists and pastor to make music an integral part of worship and help encourage us as we sing to the Lord and bless God s name! How are you giving thanks to God during this season of Thanksgiving? Take a moment to think of the blessings you have experienced, and give thanks for them! Grace and peace, Pastor Pam **** We have an opportunity to give thanks to God at the Ecumenical Thanksgiving service and potluck supper on November 19, the Sunday before Thanksgiving. We will gather at the Methodist church at 5:00 p.m. for a brief service of thanksgiving with our friends from all the Marcellus churches, and have the opportunity to enjoy a delicious meal. I am certain it will be delicious because I think Marcellus has the best cooks and bakers around! ** Contacting us: the church office is open Monday-Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Pastor Pam has Open Office hours on Tuesday mornings from 10:00 a.m. to noon, and is happy to meet other times just contact me! Leave a voice mail in the office for Sandy or leave it on Pastor Pam s voice mail it will be forwarded to me. My cell phone is and is p.gnagy@marcelluspc.com. November 2017 Page 2

7 Seeking Wisdom We Make the Road By Walking A Gathering for Those Seeking to Deepen Their Relationship with God And Find Out More About Being a Jesus Follower Saturday, November 11, :00-11:30 AM - Fireside Room Led by Dr. Ginny Smith As we gather on November 11, Veterans Day, we ll be joining Mary Magdalene as she tells us about the Jesus, the tradesman from Nazareth, she knows. In chapter 26 of Brian D. McLaren's book entitled We Make the Road by Walking, she ll help us gain insight into Making It Real, as we explore Mark 2:1-19, Hebrews 11:1-8, and I John 1:1-2:6 and discuss how we can make a difference in our church and community by being Jesus Followers. If we truly trust him, we will follow him on the road, imitate him, learn from his example, live by his way. Because his message was and is so radical on so many levels, believing and following can t be treated lightly. They are costly. They require us to rethink everything. They change the course of our lives.... If we believe, we will make it real. In looking ahead, the dates for our future gatherings are December 9, A New Path to Aliveness; January 13, Your Secret Life; February 10, Why We Worry, Why We Judge; March 10, The Choice Is Yours; April 7, Palm Sunday Peace March; May 12, The Uprising Begins; and June 9, The Uprising of Fellowship. Hope to see you on November 11. PEOPLE OF ALL AGES ARE ENCOURAGED TO COME. November 2017 Page 7

8 Christian Education Harvest Dinner Volunteers All youth are asked to plan to be available to volunteer for the Harvest Dinner at church on November 11th. This even is always a busy one and every set of helping hands makes a huge difference. Unless you have a conflict that you can not reschedule, please make every effort to be there to help make this year s Harvest Dinner a successful one! Pageant Preparations Beginning Soon Although it is barely November, we will be thinking about Christmas Pageant preparations quite soon. The pageant is set for December 10th during the regular church service. Anyone who is interested in volunteering to help is welcome to do so. Just talk to Brian Ray to let him know of your interest. We would love to have the help and fresh involvement! December Movie Event In case you hadn t heard, there is a new Star Wars movie being released in December, and requests to make this our youth group Movie Tavern outing for the year have been numerous. So mark your calendars for Saturday, December 16th!! We have tickets to the 6:20pm showing at the Movie Tavern in Camillus, and have a block of seats reserved. If you haven t already been in touch with Allison Ray to claim your seat, please be in touch as soon as possible. All youth group kids are invited to go and there are a few extra seats for interested parents. Gifts for our Neighbors in Uganda Our package of goodies for Joan and her fellow residents at Children of the Father s House was met with great surprise and joy! Laura, the CFH director, arrived in Uganda in early October and stayed for over two weeks. She was able to send several pictures and a lovely video of Joan during her time there. We look forward to maintaining regular contact with Joan through Laura and her codirector, Eric, and hearing about the progress Joan is making in school. We will be sending her pictures and letters regularly, too, so if you are ever moved to write to her or send a little something for her, please let Allison Ray know and she will make that happen for you. 9 Christian Education Christian Education Committee This is a friendly reminder that the Christian Education Committee is always looking for new members. You do not have to have children in the program to be a part of the Committee. We meet on the first Sunday of each month (unless an announcement is made indicating otherwise), in the Gathering Space off of the front of the sanctuary right after the youth group meeting has ended. Please drop by if you are interested. You are more than welcome! Annual Apple Pie Sale Thank you for your support of the annual apple pie sale in October! After a trip to Navarino Orchard to pick several bags of apples (and enjoy some delicious cider doughnuts!), the youth and their parents returned to church to prepare and assemble 40 pies. We were able to sell all of the pies and turn a profit of over $200, which will be deposited in the youth activity fund that helps pay for our activities throughout the year. Thank you very much for your enthusiasm and willingness to purchase the pies to support youth programming!! And many thanks to the parents who drove the kids to the orchard and help out with all of the preparations! November 2017 Page 9
