1 Term 2 Week 3 03/05/2018 Dear Parents, Thank you to all the parents and children who have welcomed me back to school this week. I am feeling terrific after my surgery and recuperation and I am looking forward to getting stuck into this term. I would like to thank Ms. Laurie for taking over the reigns in my absence. She did a fantastic job and was ably supported by the Leadership team and staff of the school. My heartfelt thanks to all. Last week, the Middle students went on camp to Phillip Island. The teachers came back singing the praises of the students and how well behaved they were and what a great time they all had. Congratulations to our Middle students and thank you to Mr. Devlin, Ms. Varga, Ms. Mogridge, Ms. Madigan and Ms. Brown for all giving of their time to give our students this wonderful experience. Photos of the children on camp are on page 4. This week, Archbishop Denis Hart came to the school to visit the Grade 6 Confirmation Candidates. Archbishop Hart spoke to the children about their upcoming Confirmation which he will be celebrating. Last week, the Candidates took part in a Confirmation Reflection Day and formation evening in preparation for the making of this Sacrament. Thank you very much to Ms. Mackin, Mrs. Novak and Ms. Lee for the preparation of the candidates and organisation for evening. I would like to wish our candidates: Thomas, Jed, Annika, Lotus, Lucy, Noah M, Anthony, Madison, Xavier H, Jack, Isabella, Christian, Noah D, Ava, Jade, Charlotte, Evie, Spencer & Jake all the very best in their preparation for Confirmation. They are in our prayers. Also this week the children took part in an incursion for Spanish. A flamenco dancer and musician came to the school to teach the children about flamenco dancing and spanish music. The children had a wonderful time and were swishing their skirts, rolling the wrists and hands, clapping their hands and stamping their feet. Thank you to Ms. Fogarty for organising this incursion for the children. Finally, our deepest condolences and sympathies to Marie Paton and her family on the passing of Marie s mother on Monday evening. On behalf of the St. Margaret Mary s community our thoughts and prayers are with Marie and her family, at this very sad time. Cheers, Andrea Richards Principal Term 2 3rd May - Grade 4 Girl s visit to MSJ 4th May - Cross Country 7th May - Assembly - Middle A pm 11th May - Mother s Day Breakfast 11th May - Confirmation pm 15th May - Mass - Prep am 20th May - Family Mass - Juniors am 21st May - Assembly - Junior A pm 22nd May - Mass - Senior A am 1st June - District Gala Sports Day for Senior Students 4th June - Assembly - Prep pm 6th June - Division Cross Country 5th June - Whole School Mass - Feast of the Sacred Heart am 8th June - School Closure Day 15th June - Athletics Day - Newport 19th June - Mass - Middle B am 26th June - Whole School Mass - End of Term am 29th June - Reports going home 29th June - Last Day of Term pm finish for students 29th June - School Disco - FSG OTHER DATES TO BE AWARE OF: 16th July - Beginning of Term 3 2nd August - Parent Teacher Learning Conversations 10th September - School Closure Day 21st September - Last Day of Term 3 8th October - Beginning of Term 4 19th December - Last day of school year Parent Helpers Course If you would like to be a Parent Helper at school, please indicate your interest for attending a parent helpers course. 2 Please keep the following children in your prayers as they prepare for the Sacrament of Confirmation next Friday evening. Thomas Allen Jed Anders Hugh Craig Annika Dass Lotus Di Battista On Tuesday Archbishop Denis Hart visited the Confirmation Candidates. Lucy Diggerson Noah Douglas Anthony Furia BREAKING NEWS: Archbishop Hart comes to visit Saint Margaret Mary's Madison Gurmesevic Xavier Hermans Jack Knight Isabella Maybin Christian Persichelli Noah McGee Lavany Senthil Ava de Sousa Jade Scolaro Charlotte Stratford Evie Stosic Spencer Tull Jake Vassallo Today Archbishop Hart came to visit St Margaret Mary s Confirmation Candidates, who had been waiting in anticipation for his arrival. Wow he looks stern, reported Jade. The nervous confirmation candidates followed him into the church, and sat down quietly. He began by talking about the gifts of the Holy Spirit, and we began to understand that it is always with us stated Ava. He explained that your breath is like the Holy Spirit because you can not see your breath, just like you can t see the Holy Spirit. It is here, but you just can t see it. I thought that was very relevant because without your breath you will not be able to live, and without the Holy Spirit, you could not have faith in God, commented Isabella. The Archbishop informed the candidates about how Confirmation was going to run on the night, said Jack. He explained the basic ritual to them and they quickly understood. He finished off with a final prayer and dismissed them, wishing them the best of luck. This is Jade and Alexis reporting from Senior B, Spotswood, thankyou and goodnight!

3 Class Student Award Prep Darin R For always using his manners when speaking with staff and his peers JA Isabel S For listening to feedback from the teacher to improve her recount writing. JB Diego For persisting to write an excellent recount about our excursion to Newport Lakes and for using the success criteria to help him successfully achieve the learning intention. MA Alicia K For being brave and going all the way to the top on the GIANT swing! MB Natasha B For challenging herself on camp and pushing herself in every single activity. Keep it up Natasha! SA Maddison Gurmesevic For showing excellent motivation and dedication during her preparation for the sacrament of Confirmation. SB For working with a small group to present a unique and creative contribution to assembly, about an ANZAC soldier s point of view. Great feedback received from our community! Well done! If you want to register for the Premier s reading challenge. Please see Miss Lee Please do not pack foods that contain nuts in your child s lunches. Foods such as Nutella, hazelnut spreads in wafers and peanut butter sandwiches all contain nuts. We appreciate your assistance in keeping all children at SMM safe.
