Assurance of Pardon In the beginning, the Spirit of God swept over the waters and a new world was created. When Jesus was baptized, he was immersed into the watery chaos of our human world. He came up out of the water, the Spirit of God descended upon him, and a voice from heaven said, This is my Son, the Beloved. Through our confession of sin and our baptism, God says to each of us you are my child, you are a new creation. Amen. His presence, always near Is in such friendship better known: we see and praise him here we see and praise him here Chorus 2x Sermon: Worship Changes Everything Scriptures and a few quotes They devoted themselves to the apostles teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers (Acts 2:42) For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be the glory forever. Amen. I appeal to you therefore, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God what is good and acceptable and perfect. (Romans 11:36 12:2) So here s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you. (Romans 11:36 12:2, The Message) One of the most powerful experiences in a life of compassion is the expansion of our hearts into a world-embracing space of healing from which no one is excluded. Prayer for others, therefore, cannot be seen as an extraordinary exercise that must be practiced from time to time. Rather, it is the very beat of a compassionate heart In prayer, we meet Christ, and in him all human suffering. In service, we meet people, and in them the suffering of Christ. (Henri J. M. Nouwen, Compassion: A Reflection on the Christian Life) The Lord s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever Amen.
