We acknowledge that we tend to fear what we don t understand, and that love is more powerful than fear. We acknowledge that we must work to understand each other,

3 All: and that this work is Kingdom work. We acknowledge that each perspective brings your nature into clearer picture, and that we need each other s points of view. Help us to love one another even though we are different. Help us to celebrate one another even though we may not agree. Help us to be kind to one another even when we have been hurt. Help us to open the doors to our churches, homes, organizations, governing bodies, dinner tables, even though it may feel awkward and impractical. We know that the diversity of the people of the world is a good gift for our growth and edification To help us see your vision for the world where there are neither slave nor free, male nor female, one race nor the other; but we are all free, beloved, and united in the peace of Jesus Christ. 6 The Parish Nurse is away from June 1 st to 8 th attending the National Parish Nursing Conference. There will be no drop in clinics during this time. Clinics will resume June 13 th and 15 th. IMCC Auditions - Basement Thursday, June 8 10:00 a.m. WALC - gym Friday, June 9 1:00 p.m. House of Friendship - gym Hymn Sing and Update on Three-Church Conversations: This evening at 7:00 p.m. come to Waterloo North Mennonite Church (100 Benjamin Rd., Waterloo) for a hymn sing and update on the conversations between W-K, Erb Street, and Waterloo North Mennonite Churches. We will worship together again, as we did on Good Friday, and hear how God is leading our conversations together so far. Refreshments will be provided. Come and add your voice! Our Annual Church Clean-up Day hosted by George Street Fellowship will be held tomorrow, Monday, June 5 th beginning at 3:00 p.m. Come and help clean up the courtyard, parking lot, wash windows, and any other chores that need doing. Come around 3:00 p.m. and stay for a pizza supper. The Quilting Group will meet in the Basement on June 6 th. All ladies are welcome to come and join the stitching party! Page 5

7 The next W-K Lunch Bunch will take place on Wednesday, June 7 th at 12:30 p.m. at Fireside Deli and Family Restaurant at 800 Ottawa Street South in Kitchener. (corner of Ottawa and Strasburg). All women are welcome to join for food and fellowship. Bibles for 12-Year-Olds: On Promotion Sunday, June 11, our 12-year-olds will receive a Bible from the congregation. We want to make this gift even more special and filled with our church's blessing and prayers. The Bibles, labelled with the children s names, are at a table in the foyer, with pens and highlighters. Please take a few minutes to highlight a particularly meaningful passage to you in each of the Bibles and include a note of blessing too. The annual Promotion Ceremony and BBQ for all who are part of our Sunday School nurturing, right from Cradle Roll on up, is scheduled for June 11 th. Help us affirm the progress of our children, by participating! After recognizing the various graduates (and enjoying a musical piece or two from the kids) during our regular service, plan on joining us for games on the church lawn that start at 11:00 am, and a sausage lunch soon afterwards. Please join us for our W-K Communion Service and Coffee Time at Parkwood Mennonite Home on Thursday, June 15 th at 2:00 p.m. The service takes place in the Craft Room of the Retirement Wing and is followed by a time of singing, fellowship and refreshments. Sponsored by the Deacons, Caring Friends and Health and Wellness Committee. Furnace Replacement: We are moving ahead with the replacement of the boiler and the decision has been made to raise money outside of the budget to cover the cost. Any donations towards this project would be greatly appreciated please clearly mark that it is for the boiler fund. The work has been contracted to commence in June. More information to follow soon. Mission and Outreach is busy helping our community and beyond: The Waterloo Region Food Bank needs our help to keep their shelves stocked over the summer months. You can help by donating peanut butter, beans in sauce, canned fish and canned fruit. We will be collecting food until June 21 st. Page 6

8 Mennonite Church Canada Witness Partnership we have agreed to a partnership with Bock Ki and Sook Kyoung Park, witness workers in South Korea. See the Mission bulletin board in the lower foyer to find out more about their work in South Korea. We will affirm this partnership during our worship time this morning. God s Great Get-Together at Boabab Blast won t be the same without you! Don t miss out on Vacation Bible Camp, July 17-21, from 9am to 12noon at Knox Presbyterian Church. Register online at wkumchurch.ca Scholarships are available! Adults and Teenagers WE NEED YOUR HELP! Vacation Bible Camp is a partnership between W-K, Erb Street, Waterloo North, and Knox. We re expecting 150 kids for the week and we need your energy and involvement! Would you be willing to chaperone a group of about 10 children, help lead crafts, prepare snacks with other volunteers in the kitchen, just be a friendly and helpful presence, or be involved in some other way? Talk to Pastor Ben. (Youth this is a great way to earn those community volunteer hours!) 9 NEW Wednesday, June 14 th 3:30-5:00 p.m. in the gym Life and Death Matters a café style discussion group This café might be for you if you or your family have recently experienced a significant life transition... the death of a loved one, a family break-up, health changes or other challenges in your family life... Have you been experiencing a sense of grief or loss? Perhaps you have the feeling of being overwhelmed by what life is currently asking of you? Maybe you just need a space to process a significant life event? Let s join together in this informal discussion group, gathering strength from each other and the opportunity to give voice to our joys and sorrows. Discussion topics will emerge from the groups needs with minimal formal direction. All matter of concerns challenge us throughout life and death come and share in this safe space. A Man's Spiritual Path: Up and Down - Mennonite Men Ontario Retreat Led by Ontario pastor Scott Brubaker-Zehr with music by Brian Moyer-Suderman, this year's event is a home-grown event, and is set to offer another meaningful time of worship and considering our spiritual lives as men. We will be gathering at Hidden Acres Mennonite Camp again, with a similar Friday evening and all day Saturday event, June 9th and 10th. Theatre of the Beat, a critically acclaimed drama troupe, along with musical group, No Discernable Key, will be presenting Yellow Bellies at Steinmann Mennonite Church on Friday, June 16 th beginning at 7:30 p.m. This is a historical drama that highlights the experience and response to Mennonite Conscientious Objectors during WWII. Join for a thought provoking theatre experience like no other. Admission is free. See the poster on Bulletin Board # 4 for more information. Mennonite Historical Society of Ontario Annual General Meeting and performance of Yellow Bellies at Floradale Mennonite Church on Saturday, June 17 th. Meeting at 1:00 pm. Performance times at 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm. Yellow Bellies is a historical drama with live music highlighting the experiences and public response to Mennonite Conscientious Objectors during WWII, written by Johnny Wideman and Rebecca Steiner. Tickets: $20 ($10 students/youth) available at the door. Proceeds of the performances will go towards a commemorative plaque at the Montreal River conscientious objector camp.
