Spring Tea for All Ladies & Little Ladies Saturday May 2, 2015 from 1:00PM 3:00PM Old Fashioned Dress-Up Tea Party! Attire: Hats & Gloves are encouraged Dresses, Skirts, & Dress Slacks. During the Tea we would like to have an Apron & Bonnet Parade. (Please bring along your favorite apron, bonnet, or both). A Style Show of older clothing item/s: Dresses, Hats, Purses & Gloves. If you have an item/s please contact us to be put into the program or if you need help finding a model to wear an item/s. There will be an opportunity for everyone to have their photo taken. Tickets: Ladies $5.00 Little Ladies $2.50 (7-12 years) Little-Little Ladies 6 and under free. 150th Anniversary Committee The 150 th Anniversary Committee is looking for descendants of the following former Pastors of St. John: Rev. Phillip Estel, Rev. Fred Leyhe, Rev. A.G. Grimm, Rev. Alex Krusche, Rev. Alvin Kirchhoefer and Rev. Aaron Schulz. We would like to make contact with these families so they may be represented during the 150 th Anniversary Celebration. The name of a contact person along with an address would be very helpful. If you have information about these former Pastors, PLEASE contact Judy Shepard Kitchen Supplies Update St. John continues to order our paper and cleaning supplies from Worzella Supply in Stevens Point. Our use of supplies is very sporadic, so we need to reorder as we use items. In the supply room, a binder is available with all the supplies that we use. Next to the binder is a note pad on which you can put the needed item. It will then be ordered by the church secretary. We also stock four sizes of plastic take-out or leftover containers to be used. This will help lower the need for brought in containers. Our kitchen and all the supplies in it are available for every member/group who uses the kitchen. We want you to feel free to use the supplies you need! Please take the time to LIST any supplies that are low (on the reorder tablet this includes cooking items). If you need a special item, we will try to get it for you. If you bring in your own supplies, please take the leftover items home with you. Our hope is that this will make it easier for everyone and that our kitchen will continue to be used by all! Page 1

2 Kellner Area Rummage Sale We got some junk in our truck. Do you have any junk to sell from your trunk? On Saturday, May 30 from 8AM 4PM we will give you a great opportunity to sell junk from your car trunk. A five dollar donation will get you two parking spots in the church parking lot. This will allow you to bring more items to sell. We will be selling lots of yummy food.. Come check us out. Port-a-Potty on site. We will be selling: Walking Tacos, Baked Potatoes with toppings, Fruit Kabobs, Chocolate Cookies and Beverages. Reserve your spot by contacting Sandra Sweeney at or The monies earned will go towards the Boards of Stewardship and Evangelism for upcoming events during our 2015 anniversary year. Tell family & friends! We have the space-the foodthe junk - We just need your trunks. Bethesda Thrift Shop Special sale in May will be a Blue-tag discount sale beginning May 11. Senior and Veteran discount day (25%) is every Wednesday. A nice variety of NEW furniture and mattresses is available. The store will be closed Memorial day. We could use some more volunteers in the back room on Wednesdays and Fridays. Thanks for your continued support of Bethesda. Library Reminder As Weekday School comes to a close we would like to ask teachers, parents and grandparents to remind your students/children to return any overdue books to the library. We encourage everyone to continue using the library. Stop by from time to time and see what we have for your summer reading and movie entertainment. Remember too..we welcome donations you may have for our fall book sale. Place them in the blue bin which is located in the library media room. Thank you--the Library Committee Memorial Day Service Honoring Veterans Please join us in honoring our Veterans! Saturday, May 23 rd : A light meal will be served at 5:30 p.m. With BBQ s, Baked Beans, Chips, relishes, and dessert. Worship will begin at 6:30 PM. Sunday, May 24 th : Worship will begin at 9:30 AM with a Dinner to follow. The menu will be IGA chicken, cheesy potatoes, rolls, assorted salads and dessert. A Local VFW organization will present colors, play taps and conclude each service with a 21 gun salute. Please come and help us honor our veterans for their service and all they have done for our country and our community. This years goal will be to collect money for the King Veterans Home Christmas. All money will go towards buying Christmas gifts for the Veterans there. The project last year distributed gifts to 306 veterans by raising $ Let s help raise that dollar amount by giving generously to our door collections for the entire month of May. Scrip Scrap Corner Tackle projects BIG & small. Find Scrip for paint, hardware, supplies, storage, décor and anything you need for your home improvements this spring. 3 Picture Update Sign up for portrait appointments will soon come to a close. If you have not yet signed up, please do! We would like to see every member in the Pictorial. Life Touch would like us to remind you that your portrait time could take as long as 1 hour. While waiting you will be able to check out the awesome raffle baskets in the narthex. The pictorial committee is looking for hosts to help with checking in members for portrait days. We need 6 hosts for every day May 5 th thru 9 th. Each will work two hours. Please let Judy Monje know if and when you can help out. The committee will hold a brief training session for hosts on Monday, May 4 th at 6:00 PM at church. We are working hard to complete a pictorial that all can enjoy. Submitted by Sue Helmuth Chair Person Pictorial Directory. Also, a reminder to those who did photo sign up at church and those who will sign up in the future. Bring in a food item for SWEPS and receive a $5.00 off your portrait price. Younker s Community Days Bonus When all the figures are in all the coupon books accounted for all the dust has settled Younker s sends out Bonus Checks to each group who participated in the sale. This bonus is a reward from the company and is based on how many days/shifts each group worked and how many coupon books they sold. We usually come in around 3 rd place and our bonus check is usually somewhere around $200-$300. This year, because of the hard work and dedication of Team St. John, we received a check for $ God certainly provides so much more than we could ever ask for or imagine and we thank Him. $ is being given to the weekday school and the balance of $ will be allocated to the window fund. Thanks again to all who helped! Judy Monje Students Singing Weekday School students will be praising God and warming our hearts on Sunday, May 3 rd by singing songs of praise during 9:30 am service. Presentation of Attendance Awards, Bibles & Catechisms Attendance Awards will be presented to Weekday School students during the May 3 rd service. Bibles will be presented to Weekday School 2 nd graders, by their parents. The following students will be receiving their Catechism: Brian Olds Chase Jensen Lucas Prange Carley Whitrock Board of Education Brat Fry Following the May 3 rd service, the Board of Ed will be having a Brat Fry in the church basement. All proceeds from the Brat Fry will go towards 2015 Vacation Bible School (VBS) expenses. You can dine in or take your order home. We will serve brats until 1:00 pm or until quantities run out. We hope you stop in and enjoy a delicious brat. Thank you for supporting VBS. Page 3

4 Singing Thank You I would like to THANK all of our Weekday School Students who faithfully participated on the Singing Sunday s throughout the school year. The sharing of your beautiful voices and enthusiasm is much appreciated. I would like to Thank Parents & Grandparents too for bringing them so they can participate together as a big group. St. John is blessed to have a great group of young voices. To the wee little children just starting out to our 7th Grade Students leaving us to be Confirmed. To ALL the children who came early or stayed late to practice Chimes throughout the year and shared with the congregation your accomplishments. You Chime beautifully! I am PROUD of all the students and how each had participated this year. Sandra Sweeney Life Circles Spring has come, so we will be taking our annual trip to Pardeeville! Since Thursday is the Amish day of rest, we will be going on Wednesday, May 13 th. We will be going by car caravan to visit two Amish green houses, Amish store and the Amish bakery. We will meet for lunch at a café in downtown Pardeeville. We will leave at 8:00 AM from St. John and should return to church by 5:00 PM. Since we always seem to have a good group going come prepared to drive, because we do not always know the number going. Please join us for a really fun day of shopping. See you Wednesday, May 13 th. Lutheran Hour Broadcast If you would like to sponsor the Lutheran Hour on WFHR 1320 AM at 9:00 AM please call the radio station at and ask for Bob or Chuck. Previously we had announced that WFHR would no longer be broadcasting the Lutheran Hour. As we become informed about the situation we will include updates.
