2 When a car gets a flat tire, what are your options? 1.) You can switch the old tire out for your spare until you fix the flat. 2.) You can abandon the car on the side of the road and cut losses. 3.) You can simply drive on the rim with the flat tire. Most of us would say the logical answer is to switch to the spare and fix the tire. You see, there are families who are driving around with flat family relationships. Many families drive around refusing to fix the problem unaware of the damage it is inflicting. This is, perhaps, the most painful problem in our families and the solution can bring a more fruitful ride to our daily experience with Jesus Christ. Here is some very basic maintenance we can do to make our ride smoother as a family: Prayer Ask your family what is their greatest burden. Pray with them concerning their burden. Use the model prayer to pray through the matter that is weighing down the family member. Pray regularly at a set time, say before school to have a great day in the Lord as you look for opportunities to show Jesus love to other. Pray after dinner for one another. Ask what the prayer need of the day is for each family member. Pray often. Imagine what you would gain by these moments. The Bible Daily incorporation of the Bible, even in small increments, will speak volumes into your family. Give a gift this Christmas of a simple devotional book the family can participate in together. Create a rhythm of steady reading with the family. The Bible can change lives one verse at time. Singing King David himself sought to make a joyful noise unto the Lord. Psalm 66:1. So, whether or not you ve got the pitch thing down, do not hinder your voice from being lifted to Him. Use a CD, playlist, or YouTube video to help sing songs to the Lord as a family in a regular or spontaneous moment in the car as you go about your day. Scripture memory I know it sounds like work, but any family that can lend support to memorizing a verse for the week or a small section over a month will undoubtedly grow in Christ. Place the verse on the refrigerator or bathroom mirror exposure leads to memory. Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds. -Deuteronomy 11:18 It is not too late to start memorizing our key verses as a Faith Family. 1) Matthew 22:37-38 (Love God Totally) 2) Matthew 22:39 (Love Others no matter what) 3) Matthew 28:18-20 (Help others to love God totally) 4) Matthew 1:1 (The Scriptures all point to Jesus and His Rescue Mission) God provides many ways to help fix our flats. These avenues lead us, and our families, toward the desired goal of honoring God and learning His word together. Help fill up spiritual tires one flat at a time! Love, Jon

4 First Kids FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH CHILDREN S MINISTRY Children s Christmas Musical on Dec. 4th. Dinner Theater December 14. No Bible Blitzers or Faith Weavers 1st-6th grades will sing at the nursing homes Wed, Dec.7 leaving church at 6:15. Merry Christmas! Wow! After two and a half months of preparing, our Children s Christmas Musical is just around the corner. Our performance will be December 4 at 6:00. We only have a couple of practices left, but they are very important. (December 1st on Wednesday night.) A practice on December 2nd may be needed if we can not get everyone to the prior rehearsals. Our dress rehearsal date is December 3rd from 1:00 4:00 pm. It is a long practice, however, it is needed to be able to go through our program twice for the AV team to be able to check all sound and light issues. We will have a break with a special snack mid-practice. It is essential that everyone is there for this practice. All children should be in the Barn by 5:30 on performance night. Thank you all so much for sharing your kids with us while we prepare for such a special program. We ask that you invite someone who does not know the true meaning of the Christmas Cross. The kids have been praying that God will prepare hearts to be changed this Christmas. In His Grip, Starting in 1888, the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering was established to empower the international missions efforts for Southern Baptists. After more than a century, the annual offering continues its steady growth. The National Goal this year is $155 Million. Your giving enables missionaries to be sent to make disciples and multiply churches among unreached peoples and places for the glory of God. WHO IS LOTTIE MOON? Lottie was born Charlotte Digges Moon on December 12, 1840 in Virginia. In December 1858, she dedicated her life to Christ and was baptized at First Baptist Church, Charlottesville, Virginia. Lottie served 39 years as a missionary, mostly in China s Shantung province. She taught in a girls school and often made trips into China s interior to share the good news with women and girls. Lottie Moon was passionate about people knowing Christ. She didn t hesitate to speak her mind. People feared and rejected her, but she refused to leave. The aroma of fresh-baked cookies drew people to her house. She adopted traditional Chinese dress, and she learned China s language and customs. Lottie didn t just serve the people of China; she identified with them. Disease, turmoil, and lack of co-workers threatened to undo Lottie s work, but she gave herself completely to God. She helped lay the foundation of what would become the modern Chinese church. Lottie Moon died at age 72 ill and in declining health after decades of ministering to her beloved Chinese, but her legacy lives on. In 1918, Woman s Missionary Union (WMU) named the annual Christmas offering for international missions after the woman who had urged them to start it. Week of Prayer for International Missions December 5th-9th We will meet each weekday, from 11:30am-12:15pm, for a time of prayer for international missions. We will learn about different missionaries each day and have a time of prayer for them. Bring your lunch and join us in the old Fellowship Hall.

7 Dear Faith Family, 'Thank you' does not adequately express our heartfelt gratitude for all that each of you have done for our family the last couple of months. You have worked in our home, brought us amazing meals, prayed specifically for our family, showered us with love, encouraged us, showered us with gifts beyond what we deserve, and you have accepted us as your own. We have felt an immediate sense of family, friendship, and home with each of you. We already love you and are honored to be part of your lives. May each of you know how special you are to our family.
