On a Wing and a Prayer Special Synod Edition with August/September Calendar Guardian Angels Catholic Community Just. Faithful. Catholic. Join us for Mass every Sunday at 9AM and every Wednesday at 7AM THE ECUMENICAL CATHOLIC COMMUNION -- A Wonderful Way of Being Catholic! ECC Report Summer The ECC s First and Founding Bishop Peter Hickman, suffered several strokes and had to have brain surgery earlier this year. He was hospitalized and in rehab for many weeks. He is now able to be home with his family but he needs around the clock rehab and supervision. Our Peter has a very strong spirit and he has been the heart of the ECC since its inception 15 years ago. The link above is to a gofundme account to help his family with the rehab expenses. Please be as generous as you can be. Love, Pastor Sue and Your Leadership Council

August 11 Build-a-Bag Pack-a-thon The Tempe/Chandler Interfaith Community is coming together for an exciting Women s Hygiene-Packing Extravaganza on Saturday, August 11 from 9AM 11AM at Valley Unitarian Universalist Congregation, 6400 W Del Rio Street, Chandler. There will be snacks and you will get to meet other people who get excited about pads and tampons! To keep up with W4W, check out their awesome Facebook page: A message from Kay: It s hard to believe we are rapidly approaching the first anniversary of Women4Women Tempe, and to celebrate this momentous occasion, we are throwing a party! I honestly believe we could not have done this without the love and support of this community. Your encouragement, guidance, advice, prayers, love and laughter are what have supported me throughout this adventure, and I would love for all of you to attend our party! Thanks and love to each and every one of you. We are a pretty special community. Now, LET S PARTY!!!
Empty Pantry Appeal! We have been providing a record number of lunch bags to our neighbors experiencing hunger and homelessness over the summer. In recent weeks, we have given 42 lunches. So we are in need of everything in the pantry: individual tuna kits, Vienna sausages, individual chips and crackers, granola bars, beef jerky (Slim-Jim type are fine), fruit/applesauce cups, and individual peanut butter cups. Thank you for supporting this ministry! You can bring your donations on Sunday or just drop items off at the office on Tuesday, Wednesday or Friday mornings. Angels and friends at Paz in July!
We are so excited to be hosting the ECC 2018 Synod right here in our backyard! The delegates, coming from all over the country and world, will be staying and meeting at the Doubletree Hilton Tempe on the corner of Priest and Broadway teeheehee Priest the priests will be staying on a street named for them! OK, only funny to a priest, I get it. Anyway, along with staying and meeting at the Doubletree, the Synod will celebrate 2 Masses in OUR home Guardian Angels Catholic Community Sanctuary! As we are one of the host communities, along with the other AZ ECC Communities St. Michael s, Tucson and St. Teresa of Avila, Phoenix we are being called to help with hospitality at both the Doubletree and at our church. Here is a link to those opportunities: If you have any questions about any of the volunteering during the Synod contact Pastor Sue, irreverendsue@gmail.com Guardian Angels will be well represented at the Synod. Your House of Laity Delegates are Terry Pizzi and Barb Moen. Your House of Pastors Delegates are Rev. Elaine Groppenbacher and Deacon Joan Crawford. These folks will be your voting members on ECC legislation, budgets, etc. We are surely blessed having such awesome representatives. There will be a Synod meeting for all volunteers and representatives on Sunday, Aug. 19 th after mass. If you cannot make this meeting, it will be repeated on Thursday evening, Aug. 23 rd at 6:30 p.m. Both of these meetings will be in the Fellowship Hall. On the following pages is the Synod Agenda. The link to the site for more information about the Synod is: If you are a volunteer and you are not partaking in any of the Synod meals, you can attend the meetings/workshops for free when there is a break in your volunteer duties. If you decide to spend the day, break bread with our fellow ECCers there is info on this link for a one day pass, one meal pass, etc. If you want to know more about the ECC, the link to the latest ECC Report is on the front page of this newsletter or here: If you d like to learn more about our current Presiding Bishop Francis Krebs, check out the videos on the ECC website home page: Ecumenical Catholic Communion Synod 2018 Tempe, AZ September 17-20, 2018

We must be prepared: A brief meditation for the living of these days We must be prepared. Things are likely to get worse before they get better. We must listen to the news, from a variety of sources. But we must not draw our bearings from that news. Ours is a larger horizon. We must be prepared to take emergency action, to go completely out of our comfort zones, in resisting the Powers-and-Principalities sway over current events. In the meantime, however, we must not neglect our common duties: to care for those close, especially our young ones, in guiding them toward a life commitment to empathy, simultaneously brave and humble; to care for neighbors, for friends and acquaintances and co-workers; to be faithful in communities of faith, in whatever form that takes, to listen for and proclaim the Word s invitation and direction; to building a culture of peace in the zip codes, the watersheds, the time zones, in which we live and with special attention to and advocacy for those who presently have no seat at the table of bounty; to risk the status we have been given in the world as is present on behalf of the world that is promised. In light of these and an endless list of other similar commitment, we plead: Lord have mercy on our frail appeal; and grant what we need for the living of these days. Ken Sehested, 17 July 2018 We re all connected. Check out this video and sign up for karmatube.org
