SAVE THE DATE: Friday February 8pm Presentation of Journey Cross and Crucifixion at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church The Journey, Cross and Crucifixion is a journey back through time. It is an opportunity to walk with Christ and become one with Him and the people who walked with Him. For many who have shared the Journey it is almost as if it were happening now for the first time. The music, narration, dialogue and poignant silences all add to the power of this prayerful meditation. To be part of The Journey, Cross, and Crucifixion is to experience the complete and utter frustration devastation of Mary, the frustration of Simon, the loneliness and desolation of John, Pilate s struggle between justice and expediency and the excruciating pain and degradation Jesus suffered on the way to Calvary and His ultimate death on the Cross. 3 FIFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME From the Pastor s Desk Grace and Peace to my Parish Family! Each of us has a part to play in God s Plan to save souls. God loves us, forgives us, teaches us and blesses us. Then He sends us into the world as His Apostles to teach salvation and life. We see this, in a way, in today s Gospel from St. Mark. Simon Peter brings Jesus to his home and presents him to his mother-in-law, who is sick with a fever. Jesus takes her hand and the fever leaves her. She then immediately rises to wait on them. This rapid turnaround may seem strange to us. We might think, She was just sick - she should be resting! Why is she waiting on them? However, in the presence of God, this is as it should be. God blesses us with healing in body, mind and spirit, and then, rejuvenated and grateful, we rise immediately to serve Him. He shows us the Way and we follow it, and gather others to the healing that Christ offers. God s blessings are not free. The price of healing is to accept God as our Father. (It s not such a terrible cost, is it?) As children of God, we recognize our duty to draw in more of His children and teach them the Good News of the Gospel. God sends us, His children, into the world to help save it. It is a privilege of love. That said, there are many ways that God may call us to act. Some of us fulfill the obligations of husbands and wives, fathers, mothers, grandparents and children in a loving family. Many people have careers outside of the family in which they serve the community in one way or another. These may include doctors, nurses, police officers, waitresses, taxi drivers and office workers. All of these occupations, and many more, provide services that are beneficial to the community, and they should dedicate their efforts to God on a daily basis. Still others may be called to reach out in charitable ways to assist those that God puts in their lives, often unexpectedly. At these times, God makes us His Own Hands in the world. Of course, none of these callings are exclusive. For example, you may likely be called fulfill the responsibilities of husband, father, grandfather, employee and generous caregiver, all in the course of a single day. Let us try to be open to the ways God will call us to serve today and every day. ` Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent, falls on February 14th this year, just over a week away. Lent is the perfect time to come home to God. During Lent, with God s help and guidance, we try to confront our own sinfulness and work to defeat it. God calls us to step from the dark prison of sin and out into the freedom of Grace. The Light of the World, the Son of God, redeems our souls and opens for us the Gates of Heaven. Decide now to come home to God and prepare more fully for your Easter Resurrection with Christ. We encourage you to join our Lenten journey here at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church. There will be daily mass every weekday and Saturday during Lent at 9:00am for those who are willing to attend. You may choose to accompany Christ in the Stations of the Cross on Friday nights at 7:30pm. There will also be special functions, such as the Presentation of Journey, Cross and Crucifixion, to be held on February 16th at 8:00pm. Please continue to check the Bulletin for details. Let us come before God together as His Parish Family and join in the Easter triumph of Christ over sin and death. Blessings and Peace, Fr. Kevin Thompson Joyous in the Lord
