3 Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe From the Pastor s Desk Grace and Peace to my St. Elizabeth Ann Seton family! Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe! Today is the last Sunday of the Church year! Next week we hail the new Church year with the arrival of the Season of Advent. Here, at the final Sunday of the year, we look forward to last things. We look forward to the end times, the Second Coming of Christ. At that time, Jesus, the Son of God, will return in all his glory. He will reign in righteousness until all dominions are placed beneath his feet and all sin is defeated. Then he will hand the reign of all creation to his Father in Heaven. Many might fear this day because Our Lord will come in justice to make an accounting of sin. In today s Gospel, we see how people are to be judged. Those who have helped others in need will be judged righteous, and will be embraced by God s Kingdom. Those who have turned their backs on the needs of others will be condemned by God. Notice that Our Lord does not cite crimes such as thievery or murder or abuse as the reason they are condemned. They are condemned because they did not ASSIST other people in need. Those who say, I m a good person; I don t hurt other people, may be fooling themselves. It is not enough to simply not hurt other people. No one is allowed to hurt other people! We need to do more - we must reach out and help one another, or face possible judgement! As Catholic Christians, we know this is true, and we try to live it. Even so, we often fall short. We do not fear, however, because we belong to Christ. Jesus has won our forgiveness with his Life and Death, his Body and Blood. He has come to us first as the Loving Savior and will not subject his faithful to the Just Judge. We don t fear the Final Judgement because we live in Lasting Forgiveness! What greater gift is there?! Rejoice and be glad, for the Kingdom of Heaven is ours, through Our Lord Jesus Christ, the King of the Universe! For those of you who may miss my smiling face as I recover from foot surgery, please allow me to mention that, back in June, I had been invited to pre-record a segment for a program on Telecare (Channel 29) called THE WORD, hosted by Msgr. Chris Heller. In this show, the Sunday Gospel is read and a short homily is given by the guest homilist (in this case, me). My segment will be broadcast a few times this weekend, November 28-29, as well as the previous Thursday and Friday, at various times. Your commitment as a Community of believers who reach out to others in love and friendship is certainly a statement of God s love to all! God Bless Prayer Blanket Ministry Meetings are held on Saturdays from 9:30am to 12:30pm. Come join this exciting ministry we create prayer blankets, lap robes, baby blankets, preemie hats, Christmas stockings, pink scarves, etc. and donate them to various organizations, nursing homes, etc. We also share ideas, patterns and offer instruction for anyone wishing to learn to knit or crochet or brush up on their skills. The Youth Group will be having a Bake Sale Fundraiser after all masses the weekend of December 9th and 10th. We greatly appreciate the support of the parishioners because our fundraisers are how we pay for supplies for the year. Thank you for your support. PLEASE CONSIDER VOLUNTEERING We are looking for young adults around the ages of 18 to 25 to join us at Youth Group as small group leaders. Youth group meets every other Friday from 7pm to 9pm from October to early June. This is our 5th year and we have about 40 steady members. Many of the successful YG's devote the first 15 minutes of the meeting to small groups. It consists of one young adult leader and about 4 or 5 members. The idea behind this is that this group becomes a comfortable place for our young members to share experiences with the others in the group and form a bond where they feel safe to discuss issues they may not feel comfortable sharing with a larger group. Since our YG consists of grades 6 through 12, with some college students also involved, we would like the small groups to be all the same grade. This way the children start the meeting with their own age group and then we all interact together. We have been extremely fortunate to have our college age kids as great role models for our younger ones, and it is amazing to me to see such a wide range of ages all participating in games and events together! The PRIZE MONEY (which is to be split by 2 lucky winners) is over $3,000 and rapidly growing daily. With your continued support, we can make this the best Christmas raffle yet! Raffles will be sold in the rear of the Church after each Mass up until the day of drawing. This is a major fund raiser for St. Elizabeth Ann Seton. Kevin, by making a pledge to this years Catholic Ministries Appeal for a successful CMA campaign. The good news is we have over 3,000 families in our parish and we still have 3 months left in this years campaign to make and complete new pledges. So we have the potential to not only reach our goal of $51,100 but we can surpass last year s total of $51,256. In a world of so many troubles, it s easy to feel like there is nothing we can do to make a difference. But we can help feed the hungry. We can see that our seniors are provided with services and shelter. We can provide guidance through troubled times. We can make sure that no one feels alone. If you have not already made a donation to this year s appeal you can make a difference. Please support the ministries of our diocese & parish by making a pledge to the Catholic Ministries Appeal. 8 SUNDAY, November 26th, 2017 My dear brothers and sisters in Christ, I invite all members of our Faith Community of St. Elizabeth's to join me in a Novena of prayers and Rosary in honor of Our Lady's Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception. Starting on Thursday November 30th up to December 8th we shall pray the Rosary and Novena prayers before each daily mass. On the day of the Solemnity we shall conclude with a Litany of Our Lady and a prayer of consecration at the close of the at 9:00 am and 7:30 pm masses.
