MARGARET S EPISCOPAL CHURCH If you are visiting us for the first time, let us offer you an especially warm welcome. We hope that you will enjoy worshiping with us. If at any moment in the service you are not sure what to do, ask any of your neighbors in the congregation they will be happy to help you. We would like to continue our relationship with you, so please fill out a visitor card (found in the pew racks) and drop the card in the collection plate or hand it to one of the clergy or ushers. Please also pick up a yellow newcomers bag in the back of the church. FORMATION We provide Sunday School and Christian formation to children from ages 3 to 18 from Sept. May. (A map of classroom locations is available in the narthex or from an usher.) While children are always welcome at all services, professional nursery care for children ages six weeks to four years is provided from 8:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Nursery (downstairs in the church s annex building). Children s Chapel is offered during the first part of the 9 a.m. service for children from ages three to second grade. The children leave the nave during the sequence hymn following behind the cross which will come down the aisle and then go into the downstairs annex classroom with the children rejoining their parents at the Peace. Adult Formation is also offered during the 10:15 a.m. to 11 a.m. hour. The Heretics book study group meets in the administrative conference room and a newly revised Come as You Are Bible study is held in the downstairs of the new building. We will also offer adult forums in the new building s Fellowship Hall periodically during this formation time period. COMMUNION All are welcome to receive bread and wine during communion, including children. To receive bread, place your hands palms-up at the communion rail. To receive wine, assist the Eucharistic Minister in guiding the chalice to your lips, or you may intinct by dipping the bread in the wine. If you do not wish to receive the bread or wine, place your arms across your chest to receive a blessing. Gluten-free wafers are available. Indicate your request by first extending your hands palms down when at the communion rail. The square wafers are kept in a separate holder, and you are invited to take one from this holder. LITURGY AND MUSIC The Liturgy for today is from The Book of Common Prayer and a Celtic Eucharist from Buck Mountain Episcopal Church. On the third Sunday of every month from Sept. from June, St. Margaret's offers contemporary worship music led by the Third Sunday Band. Please note that contemporary interpretations of traditional hymns may include some altered arrangements. O God, whose Son Jesus is the good shepherd of your people: Grant that when we hear his voice we may know him who calls us each by name, and follow where he leads; who, with you and the Holy Spirit, lives and reigns, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. The people are seated. THE FIRST LESSON Acts 9:36-43 A reading from the book of Acts. Now in Joppa there was a disciple whose name was Tabitha, which in Greek is Dorcas. She was devoted to good works and acts of charity. At that time she became ill and died. When they had washed her, they laid her in a room upstairs. Since Lydda was near Joppa, the disciples, who heard that Peter was there, sent two men to him with the request, "Please come to us without delay." So Peter got up and went with them; and when he arrived, they took him to the room upstairs. All the widows stood beside him, weeping and showing tunics and other clothing that Dorcas had made while she was with them. Peter put all of them outside, and then he knelt down and prayed. He turned to the body and said, "Tabitha, get up." Then she opened her eyes, and seeing Peter, she sat up. He gave her his hand and helped her up. Then calling the saints and widows, he showed her to be alive. This became known throughout Joppa, and many believed in the Lord. Meanwhile he stayed in Joppa for some time with a certain Simon, a tanner. Lector The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. I looked, and there was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, robed in white, with palm branches in their hands. They cried out in a loud voice, saying, Salvation belongs to our God who is seated on the throne, and to the Lamb! And all the angels stood around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures, and they fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, singing, Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might be to our God forever and ever! Amen. Then one of the elders addressed me, saying, "Who are these, robed in white, and where have they come from?" I said to him, "Sir, you are the one that knows." Then he said to me, "These are they who have come out of the great ordeal; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. For this reason they are before the throne of God, and worship him day and night within his temple, and the one who is seated on the throne will shelter them. They will hunger no more, and thirst no more; the sun will not strike them, nor any scorching heat; for the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd, and he will guide them to springs of the water of life, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes." A CELTIC CREED and We believe in God above us, maker and sustainer of all life, of sun and moon, of water and earth, of male and female. We believe in God beside us, Jesus Christ, the Word made flesh, born of woman, servant of the poor, tortured and nailed to a tree. A man of sorrows, he died forsaken. He descended into the earth to the place of death. On the third day he rose from the tomb. He ascended into heaven, to be everywhere present, and his kingdom will come on earth. We believe in God within us, the Holy Spirit of Pentecostal fire, life-giving breath of the Church, Spirit of healing and forgiveness, source of resurrection and of eternal life. Amen. PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE Leader: Let us pray for ourselves and others. Loving God, enliven the Church for its mission. : That we may be salt of the earth and light to the world. Leader: Breathe fresh life into your people. : Give us power to reveal Christ in word and action. Leader: Creator of all, lead us and every people into the ways of justice and peace. : That we may respect one another in freedom and truth. Leader: Awaken in us a sense of wonder for the earth and all that is in it. : Teach us to care creatively for its resources. Leader: God of truth, inspire with your wisdom those whose decisions affect the lives of others. : That all may act with integrity and courage. Leader: Give grace to all those whose lives are linked with ours. : May we serve Christ in one another, and love as he loves us. Leader: Let us now name before God those for whom we offer our personal prayers, especially : Lord, you have called us to serve you. : Grant that we may walk in your presence: your love in our hearts, your truth in our minds, your strength in our wills, until, at the end of our journey, 7

But chiefly are we bound to praise you for the glorious resurrection of your Son Jesus Christ our Lord; for he is the true Paschal Lamb, who was sacrificed for us, and has taken away the sin of the world. By his death he has destroyed death, and by his rising to life again he has won for us everlasting life. 9 SANCTUS Todd Holy and gracious Father: In your infinite love you made us for yourself, and, when we had fallen into sin and become subject to evil and death, you, in your mercy, sent Jesus Christ, your only and eternal Son, to share our human nature, to live and die as one of us, to reconcile us to you, the God and Father of all. He stretched out his arms upon the cross, and offered himself, in obedience to your will, a perfect sacrifice for the whole world. On the night he was handed over to suffering and death, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and when he had given thanks to you, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, and said, "Take, eat: This is my Body, which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me." After supper he took the cup of wine; and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and said, "Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the new Covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me." Therefore we proclaim the mystery of faith: and Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again. 9

10 The continues We celebrate the memorial of our redemption, O Father, in this sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving. Recalling his death, resurrection, and ascension, we offer you these gifts. Sanctify them by your Holy Spirit to be for your people the Body and Blood of your Son, the holy food and drink of new and unending life in him. Sanctify us also that we may faithfully receive this holy Sacrament, and serve you in unity, constancy, and peace; and at the last day bring us with all your saints into the joy of your eternal kingdom. All this we ask through your Son Jesus Christ: By him, and with him, and in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit all honor and glory is yours, Almighty Father, now and for ever. Amen. THE LORD S PRAYER : And now, as our Savior Christ has taught us, we are bold to say, Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen. On most Sundays, we send out Eucharistic visitors to deliver the sacraments to those who cannot be with us. This is the prayer we use to send them on their way.
